I think it is a great idea to have a few "subject related links" posted above the books board.
I think it would be a good suggestion for each board to have such a related links list.

nobleheart: Those would be great links to post. Let me see if I can find a site that has a bestsellar list that updates weekly and I can provide that information for you. If anyone knows of such a site that I can go to, please let me know. As far as the recommended reading list, I would need everyone's input on that. A lot of people probably would not like my style of books, so my recommended reading would probably not be that great. :)

harley: hehe that might be a problem i might have as well .. especially when i hear those who already read the book tell me they liked it so much .. i just hope the end wont disappoint me ... as everyone (including the jk rowling) says someone is going to die .. deaths should be described with the correct emotions (ever read george rr martin ?? he rules!! ;))
i am trying to keep myself in hand and be patient .. and not to rush it too much once i have it .. i will try to give myself time to sink into the book once again .. i like it best that way :)

Kata Liana: i like the books because i have my own emotions with them .. movies sometimes force a bit unto you ... but i have to admit the potter movies are great .. almost exactly as i read the books as well .. of course there are bits missing .. but they did a good job .. if you liked the movies then you will like the books as well .. plus the books are ahead of the movies so you can read in advance :)

Touching story about love, indifference and innocence lost. They also made a movie from the novel, same title, you can look it up here. ~ toods

Emne: site to buy/sell used books (dutch)
i am looking for a site where i can buy and sell used books ... dutch books :)

i am looking for rapsodie by elizabeth haydon
(the english version would be rhapsody)
its part 1 of a trilogy of which i already have part 2 and 3 in dutch (publisher: meulenhof)

i might also want to use such a site to sell a book, dragons of autumn twilight by weis end hickman (part 1 of the dragonlance series) .. i had part 1 already, but when i wanted to buy part 2 and 3 the whole trilogy was for sale for a lower price and 2+3 so i bought the trilogy, leaving me with part 1 twice :)

- Irish writer John Banville was the surprise winner on Monday of the Booker Prize, one of the literary world's most prestigious awards, for "The Sea", his poignant and dark novel about childhood memories.

The judges said it was a close-run contest, but they eventually picked Banville for what they called his "masterly study of grief, memory and love recollected".

The result had not been expected, after Banville was made a 7-1 outsider by bookmakers to land the coveted prize. British author Julian Barnes had been hot favourite to win the Booker at his third attempt.

The prize, founded in 1969, rewards the best book of the year from British, Irish and Commonwealth writers and guarantees the winner instant literary fame and a place in bestseller lists around the world.

Banville, 59, was the first Irish winner of the Booker since Roddy Doyle in 1993 with "Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha".

Chairman of the judges John Sutherland said it was a "closely contested last round in which the judges felt the level of the shortlisted novels was as high as it had ever been.

He added "discussions could have lasted for three weeks" but "there wasn't a row" and judges finally settled on Banville.

"The Sea" is the 14th novel by Banville who was shortlisted for the Booker in 1989. It tells the tale of widower Max Morden returning to the seaside village where he spent a formative childhood summer, plunging him back into his darkest memories.

Among the other contenders for the prize was former Booker winner Kazuo Ishiguro for his critically acclaimed "Never Let Me Go" about three clones bred to be organ donors. He was runner-up this time.

The Booker shortlist has been attacked in the past by critics who say the winners are all too often turgid tomes that appeal only to literary academics.

Graham Sharpe, spokesman for bookmakers William Hill, regretted the omission of three literary heavyweights from the 2005 shortlist -- Salman Rushdie, J.M. Coetzee and Ian McEwan.

"We are left with a low-profile bunch of authors. This is an average rather than an extraordinary year," he concluded.
