This morning, 6 seconds after 6 minutes after 6 o'clock,
I got a veritable shock!
My digital clock read 06:06:06:06:06:06!
What an incredible fix!

Emne: Searching for a Poem
Many years ago I read a poem in which the (anonymous) poet hankered for the "Good Old Days" when 'gay' meant happy or joyful and 'grass' was something cows ate and 'pot' was what you used to cook with and so on. Have anyone read that poem? I would like to read it again, but I can't find it anywhere! Please help!

Does anyone write any? I write millions of them! Here is an example:

たいとした 素晴しいこと 夢を見る (Transliteration: taito shita / subarashii koto / yume wo miru; English: I saw a dragon in it's flight / It is a wonderful thing / To dream)

*Note: I couldn't type the original character for it. It is not supported by Unicode, or at least by my computer.

Another example:

あの人と もう合わないな… あら?光? (Transliteration: ano hito to / mou awanai na... / ara? hikari?; English: With that person / I will never meet again... / Eh? Light?)

A Woman's Poem

He didn't like the casserole and he didn't like my cake.
He said my biscuits were too hard, not like his mother'd make.

I didn't perk the coffee right. He didn't like the stew.
I didn't mend his socks the way his mother used to do.

I pondered for an answer, I was looking for a clue.
Then I turned around and smacked him... Like his MOMMA used to do.

~ Author Unknown. This has been sent around the Internet a few times, apparently. The next two sets are mine and get somewhat darker.

He said I talked to him too much. He didn't care to listen.
He'd tell me off and then walk out once he'd made my eyes glisten.

He never bought me presents 'cos he hated spending money.
He wanted laughter at his jokes though none were very funny.

He didn't want to grow up, he was really still a boy.
He wanted me to be his mum, his plaything, some dumb toy.

I wondered what to do about it, then Ahah! I knew.
I locked him in the cellar... Like his MOMMA used to do.

He'd take my earnings from my purse and say he'd pay it back.
He never did, so I grew poor. He suffered no such lack.

He'd go out of an evening, come back later, rolling drunk.
He thought it funny, in the bath, to give my head a dunk.

He told me what to do and, if I didn't, he would hit!
I walked all stiff from bruises but he didn't give a **it.

With brooding scowls and angry words, he seemed to hate us all.
He'd shout at me and at the kids. He'd make the children bawl.

I grew unhappy, so fed up, deep hatred I now knew,
One day he came home - "That's my gun!"... like POPPA once did too.

Emne: Haiku for the new schoolyear!

Today was the first day of school for the junior highs and high schools. I was inspired by the event (and the intimidation) and wrote this haiku:

נחליאלי כבר \ מהלך לו בשדות \ ספירה לאחור (nakhliéli kvár / mehalékh lo basadót / sfirá le'akhór)

which means:

A wagtail already / Walks in the fields / Countdown

(The wagtail in Israel is a clear symbol of autumn.)

What do you think?

Tilpasset af An Cat Dubh (12. September 2006, 15:57:12)
The Heavenly Damsel and the Red Rose

The Heavenly damsel descends to the earth
To once again join her love.
Her coming is signaled from miles away
By the cry of the dove.
Countless riders have ridden their steeds
After giving a red rose to their wives.
Most of them have yet to return
The rest have already lost their lives.
As horrible massacres still proceed
The Heavenly Damsel looks forth as she steps.
The Rose, which she holds tight between her velvet fingers
Goes deep into her heart, reaching its depths.
Commanders yell to enforce the spirits
Of the men who are willing to die for a king.
Such a great deal of them have lost
The ability to once again sing.
Dark clouds cloud all the bright sun rays
And rain washes all tears and blood.
Bravest hearts and noblest steeds
Have all descended to plain filth and mud.
The Heavenly Damsel still has no fear
Her Eyes still remaining on her goal.
But once she reaches her destination
All her hopes burn like charcoal.
The rain is gone like all dark clouds
But all the battlefield has turned red.
And in the sea of soldiers’ corpses
She finds her beloved husband dead.
Then tears burst out of her two eyes
And she places the Red Rose on his chest.
‘Alas,’ she says, ‘‘tis my last tribute,
I hope now you may finally rest.’

Perhaps this is just another one
Of God’s tests?

Emne: Going to the Moon?
GOING TO THE MOON?

Recently read in the papers that soon
ISRO scientists are planning to send someone to the moon.
For that purpose they are trying to build a rocket;
And asking the government to take the country and hock it.

You see, they have presented a multi-crore budget
Though I dare say they're soon going to fudge it
And the expenses shall increase again and again.
"Unforeseen necessities" is the usual refrain.

So, the poor shan't be fed, the ill shan't be treated,
The infra-structure shall remain completely depleted;
No one's thinking of the common man in RK Laxman's cartoon.
And all this just to go to the moon!

Well, they can easily save much pain and a whole lot of money
If you send them to me, honey.
I'll simply roll them a Manali, stiffy,
And they will reach the moon, Mars, Venus or for that matter anywhere in the blasted universe in a jiffy.

Say, unrelatedly, can you tell me what does 'chori chori hangorise hyangaringe' (hope I'm spelling it properly...) mean? It's from some Bollywood song that is very popular in Israel, but I doubt anyone knows what it means...

瀬人様: Got it! (From a friend in San Jose, CA - this internet stuff is quite something!) This is how it goes (or so I'm told):

Chori chori hum gori se pyar karenge...

Chori chori - secretly; hum - I or me; gori se - with a fair maiden; pyar - love; karenge - will make. I'm sure you get the sense. (If you ask me, its all nonsense, anyway!)

Emne: Shiva's Blessing - to a Point
Every time I get insulted in a tea party,
I can seldom come up with a repartee.
It’s only after partaking a joint
That I remember the rejoinder, to the point.

Whenever I write poems, in verses,
My rhymes evoke colourful curses.
And then I have a smoke and lines flow;
My poems are joint efforts, really so.

When suddenly I find myself in trouble
Like when the cement won’t mix with the rubble;
I retire, and have a deep toke.
Problems? What problems? It’s a joke!

When I sit and strum my guitar
And my fingers can’t e’en hold a bar,
I go to the toilet for a puff –
Lo! I’m Clapton or Page, in a huff!

And then, when I am stuck at work,
When designs don’t meander, they jerk,
I simply roll and light up a reef –
And suddenly the plans meet the brief.

But when a deadline’s gotta be met
And I realise I’m bound to be late,
To get inspiration, I get blown.
Alas! By then the client has flown!

Grant me strength, Dear Lord, I pray.Control my life, don't let me stray.
When I feel angered, help me see,
That I can place my trust in Thee.

When I feel I'm sinking low,
Hold me, Lord, don't let go.
Don't let Satan have his way,
For I know he'd lead me astray.

Make me strong when I feel weak,
Let my ears listen when You speak.
Let not my faith diminish in Thee,
But save my soul and set me free.

Forgive me when I start to doubt
What faith and trust are all about.
Hold me Lord, in the darkest night,
Take away my fear and fright.

May Your voice be one, I always hear,
Saying to me, "I'm always near".
"I'll walk with you and guide you well,
But you My child, must not rebel".
Lord, I love you, forgive my fears,
Please dry my eyes from all these tears.
May I always place my trust in You,
Remembering, Lord, You've always been true.

There's a stillness in the air tonight
A silence that can make you deaf
No wind blowing through the trees
No flies buzzing around the reef

The moon casts out an eerie glow
that beckons Time to move
But there's a stillness in the air tonight
And the waves won't reach the cove

The hummingbird won't flap her wings
She's poised above the shore
The night owl won't make a sound
The dogs will bark no more

A stillness in my heart tonight
The realization's true
Alone I'll stumble though this life
That's all there is ... I'm through

Emne: A Soldies Christmas
As Christmas falls near,
With the stars shining bright
A young soldier keeps walking...
First left, then right.

He's serving his country
With a heart full of pride
On foreign land he's fighting
And this Christmas he'll reside.

In good times and bad
He'll always stand tall
He shows his best
And gives it his all.

Like so many others
He's there for a cause,
And as a true soldier,
Never will he pause.

He's tried and true
And tempered like steel
Born of American spirit;
Born with American will.

Without his sacrifice
The cause would be lost
But the soldier carries onward
No matter the cost.

So I'll look to him with honor
And thankful with prayers.
For the freedom I have
Is because this soldier cares.

Though it's now Christmas
And he's not here with me
His safe return I pray for
To the Land of the Free.
