I don't discount that. But on the same level, I don't believe that to be predominantly the case. Either "they" have a poor memory or far too many games to not know which way a game went.

Emne: resigning games
I could not remember results...
so scrubbed all games without penalty either way...
What is far more distressing is the loss of the names of players with whom I had so many good games... especially those who bracketed me (better players who lost and weaker players who won).. I would be grateful for ANYONE who enjoyed such a game would rechallenge ...

It is usually a problem of cookies. Some browsers don't delete them when they receive a request from the server to do that.

Dragon.. as BBW said.. many people may not remember if they had lost or won a game from back then. Doesn't make them bad sports.. it just means they don't have bionic memories.. I personally resigned all games I knew for sure I had lost before the time warp. If my opponent couldn't remember either, we played them out.

i think in many cases, people with a losing position don't realize they have a losing position.

Same here Eddie! I had too many games to remember who won or lost each one. If I saw it was a game I was going to lose then I went ahead and resigned. But otherwise I don't have a clue! So I have just been playing them out and my opponents seem to be doing the same thing.

Sorry for not being more defining. I mean the games where one lost before the outage. It is beyond me why anyone would play on other than to gain deceivingly.

Emne: Re: resign games
There is a cafe nearby in Glendale, CA, where Armenians all know when it's time to resign, even if they are no good in chess, because their opponent stands up, with the table in hand and throws it across the room. They say that the sight of chessmen flying through the air followed by the board and then the table is a sight no one soon forgets. Good thing I don't speak Armenian, because the words they are using might not be appropriate for general audiences, if you know what I mean.

You might not believe this, but it is true: I only now looked up the fact that your stats page shows Germany. I was responding to your message, below, entirely on the fact that what I saw on the page looked a lot like what someone who speaks German well would say if they had some limitations in their skill at English. Not a bad guess, huh? Furthermore, if you are going to try to speak to me in your mother tongue, be prepared for German 101: I need to use the bathroom, please. May I sharpen my pencil? How are you today? And such like.

Hey, rodo -- I think I gave the wrong impression. The crash of data on BrainKing might have had something to do with my problem, because it seems Ed was using the private message feature toward me, but I had not accessed that in the period of time over which the data was later lost. His messages to me, which I never saw, are now gone into virtual never-never land. I think we have it worked out, though.

I always hoped that you can understand me anyhow.
But I see the next time we will communicate in German :)

Emne: Re: Caissus
It is the right of every player to engage in play so long as he wants, and to do so to improve his game, if he so desires. But not every player desires to teach others to improve their game at his expense, whenever they might so demand. So it is the player's right, too, to choose a new opponent in the next game he plays, instead of catering to the demand of a previous opponent to continue playing against him, again. Therefore, payers of two different skill levels do not often play together.

Is that what you had to say? Our respective proficiencies in English should not preclude our communication, no? If what you have to say is not the same thing as what you say, sometimes you can find someone who is willing to listen, anyway. Take me, for instance. I don't know much German, bitte, net mit aus getzeishnet gedzundheit.

But not every player wants to be a teacher in every of his games.
So it is the player`s right too for the next game to choose another opponent.
As a result to different levels play not often together.

Well another thing to remember is not everyone is at the same skill level (I'm not a good chess player) - so even if I know I'm going to lose a chess game, most of the time I may try to play it out to learn more about the game.

Sure noho, you should not resign if you see a chance of a draw..
That`s why a good chessplayer knows when it`s time..:)

What do you mean, not resign.

Do you mean just normal games - well some players like to play games out.

Do you mean games that were "brought back" after the crash, well some player may not know if they won or lost the game before (I know I don't know)

About the Loop Chess possible bug, can you give me a game ID where this situation happened? I've never seen something like you describe. And, from the source code point of view, it should not be possible :-)

Hi all,

I'm pretty new here.I've been playing mainly Chess and Loop Chess. Anyway I noticed that in LC on certain pages I have an 'option' to 'click on' my opponents taken pieces...doing so doesn't actually do anything it seems...but still...:))

If you use the http://new.brainking.com - you are on the "new" BrainKing

If you are using http://www.brainking.com or http://brainking.com, you are on the "old" brainking.

when the system is down, it sometimes is possible to go to "Ratings" and call up your name. you can find recent moves made by an opponent, though you can't respond.

Well, we want to run it until the new hardware is purchased and placed on-line. Please don't be alarmed if new.brainking.com is occasionally down - it means that Liquid is tuning the load balancer or installing some additional tools.
