Emne: Re: Submit move actions

rod03801:  Well aware of that, still not helping me much...  a "go to next tournament game" option is what I still want to see.  Why?  I am not someone who plays a lot of tourney games, but I would prefer to not be the hold up in completing a tourney...  additionally, I sometimes go long stretches (a week) without playing more than a few games.  So, when I do play ten to fifty games a light night (opposed to some nights when I will plays thousands), I would prefer it to be a tourney game opposed to something other.  Does that make sense?

Emne: Submit move actions

I did a quick search to see if this has been asked before but I didn't find much...

Would it be possible to have a "go to next tournament game" option?  I don't want to delay any tournaments I am (they take long enough as is!!!) in and I would prefer to play all of my tournament games each day despite the long time limits as to not be the bottleneck in the tourney...  also, I would prefer to not go through 2, 5, or even 10 pages to click each game...  Any thoughts on if this can be done?  It would certainly be on my short list of selected sumbit move actions!!!

Thanks,

Emne: Events part deux

The few who have commented on this below have shown that it is a matter of personal preference.  That is exactly why I am requesting it to be set up so the individual can choose how they want to see it (please note; I am not asking for this tomorrow; it would simply be nice sometime in the future).  Frankly, customization instead of standardization is the way of the future for the service industry, and I think BK sort of fits into that service industry category for what it provides.

To be fair; I have been managing to view what I want to view without a lot of extra time spent in the events page.  Note that many times I am one of biggest movers and I have a lot of events that are happening, so I am probably receiving more events than most people (outside of a few who set up a ton of tournies and those playing more than me) so my stance on this is probably biased to making those things easier when looking at mass data because I have a lot of data to sort through!

OK, I'm done with this topic, I've said my piece.

Justaminute:  You miss my point...  I don't need to see a notification when I am the one that makes that last play.  All of that information you listed below (and a lot more) is already on the page when I make my final move, if I am curious, I'll look then!

What I am asking for is an option to see only your opponents final move notification.  Again, this would be a settings option, so only those wishing to see it that way would.  Secondly, if that is not possible, a way to sort in the events page (For English it always says "You" or "Your")  would be the next best thing.  I ask for this for people like you and me who want to see the notifications but already am aware of what I did... however, people like me don't want to sort through numerous events (I often have 50+ events).  That should be simple to understand and easy to implement (as far as I understand).

Curiously, why do I receive an event notice that I made a move and finished a game?  I am well aware that I won it or lost it, I made the final move.  Can we have an option in the settings page to turn off notifications where I was the one who made the last move?  I.E.  I only want to see when my opponent was the last to move and the game ended...

All,

Curiously, I tried to access BrainKing at work, and my employer has blocked brainking.com due to "gaming" labels on the site.  However, I can easily surpass this by going to brainking.de (or any other number of brainking sites!); however, when I clicked on a game I noticed that the images were not showing up and it appears it may be because the images are stored on the .com site.  Thoughts to surpass this on my end or your end?

Thanks,

Emne: Little Bosses
FYI...  Their is no little boss explanation when looking at the descriptions of the ranks in the fellowships...  (when you go to change a persons rank).  I think people know for the most part what a little boss is and does; but it still should be added.

Here is what it shows:

Description of the ranks:
  • Member - normal fellowship member. He/she can join the teams, read and write to discussion boards of the fellowship.
  • Manager - besides all advantages of normal members he/she can become a captain of any team and set team ranks of their players.
  • Big Boss
    - the ruler of the fellowship. Besides all advantages of managers
he/she can allow players to join his/her fellowship, ban players for
this fellowship, set ranks of all members (define managers etc.) and
write fellowship news (displayed on the fellowship's main page). Only a
member with Brain Rook or higher level can become the Big Boss.
    WARNING!
Each fellowship can have only one Big Boss. It means that if the Big
Boss sets his/her rank for another member of the fellowship, he/she
stops to be its Big Boss and becomes a manager.

Has there been thoughts of putting an "arcade zone"on Brainking?  I would like to see games like Pacman, Tetris, Asteroids, etc. where players can compete to see who can put up the best score.  It would add a new twist to Brainking but I think it would be a good one...

Emne: Re: chat box - automatic reply
Fencer: for instance; right between the message area and the little wrench, you could have a little checkbox, which when clicked automatically adds a "/r", so you always reply in private when that checkbox is clicked. When you want to go back to public messages, you simply unclick it! Of course, if you are having multiple conversations the old /m and name would still work.

Does that make sense?

Emne: Online opponents page
Is it a possibility down the line to make online opponents an option on the right hand column? I know there is the option on the left hand column to click to the page for it, but having the full list on the main page would be a good addition in my opinion. Down the line I am sure it could happen... ;-)

Fencer: Is there a way to make the chat box automatically respond as a reply if a box is clicked? I hope you know what I mean... I have already seen a few times where someone means to respond in private and the person forgets the /r...

Fencer: I like having the right column off, however I like the game notations for some games (like frog finder) on. Having the game notations below the game board eliminates the third column and adds the game notations for quick viewing... that's my reasoning! Emne: search all discussion boards
Fencer,

I love the search feature, I use it all of the time to see if anyone has ever thought of an idea I have to bring up on the features board. It makes sense to check to see if it has been brought up instead of bringing something up for the twentieth time...

So, I was sort of wondering if we could have a discussion board search on the main discussion board that would search all of the boards instead of having one search within each discussion board... Is this a possibility?

Emne: Tourney limits
Fencer: Can we have a limit on how many tourneys a person has started at an time on the tournaments board? I think 10 tourneys is plenty... this should include those tourneys that have negative time left as well...

Hopefully this will cause people to reduce the amount of time until tourneys start, the massive amount of backgammon tourneys created by the same person all at the same time, and reduce the amount of tourneys that are 'in the red'... and maybe some other unforeseen things too.

BTW; When you consider that BK is growing and there are more and more paying members each year, there will be a point (and I personally think it is now) where there will need to be a change to this policy due to the sheer numbers of tourneys.

I hope you consider this... thanks!

Emne: rook colors?
Is there any chance at buying different color rooks? Say blue, pink, green, yellow, orange, red, etc.? There has been discussion in one of the FS's I am in, and we think it would go over well. You could charge an extra buck a month or whatever and people would do it. Those that would do it would be those that are already paying for a rook or a knight or other, and would be willing to pay a little more to differentiate themselves. :-) I like it, and I know of at least one person that is wanting a pink rook for Valentines day. :-)

Emne: star for a message
Let me say that I proposed this as something that could be turned on or off in the settings page. Having a * next to a games name on the main page would only cause extra load time when you look at the main page AND if you have it turned on in your settings page. For those that want it, great. If you are interested in discussion, and can scan through quick to find an ongoing discussion. With that, I am sure there is an inverse correlation from total games to the amount I want to converse with other members. As more games are waiting my turn, I am more likely to not care for conversing and instead want to widdle my games down. So if that is the case a member could leave this off. Anyways at that point I am going to use one of the 'go to next game' or whatever and I won't look at the main page anyways. I am not a code guy or whatever, but I simply see this as a good addition to the main page. We do it for game invites already and it is awfully nice there. Why not for ongoing games? I am still not sure about this topic though for Fencer said:

Yes, it could be done. But imagine the huge amount of data to transfer to the browser if someone starts 1000 games and only a half of them contains a last move message.

Does this mean you think it is worth it? Not worth it? Add one if function to it from the settings page and only those that want to use it can... those with 1,000 games don't need to look, nor probably care, the casual player and person a little more interested in conversation wants it... I am just one example of that group of people. ;-)

Thanks.

coan.net: Neat? It would be fantastic! For those that don't want to see games with a message, have too many games, or don't want the extra milli-second it would take to load; they can simply check the box so it is off in the settings page.

Fencer: So since it will take some extra time or bandwidth for this idea it won't be implemented? If this idea slows the site speed for others, I can understand the arguement, but if it is only the individual person's load time, then it will be worth it to me and probably many others...

Emne: Re: message star
Fencer: I would think that most people that play a lot of games aren't taking the time to write messages... Any chance a checkbox in the settings could be added to turn this code on? Or does that still cause the code to be there for everyone?

I don't care that it may take an extra two-tenths of a second, I would still see it as worthwhile to me. Others may too, and for those of us like that we can turn this feature on. Otherwise people can leave it off in the settings page.

Emne: message star
Fencer: On game invitations if there is a message written for the game a star pops up next to the game on the main page. Could that be done on the main page for games already in progress where it is your turn and there is a message on the last move?

I like this idea a lot! Sometimes I am in a chatty mode and want to chat with people. I can look very quickly and see who wrote me a message without going into every game!

pauloaguia: Fantastic start! Could we make 30 days of a player being away into a simple 30 days since creating the game, or even 10 days since creating the game? I see the same games all of the time, and it's because the players are still on and playing, they just leave those games sit for ages upon ages... I think this would really clean up the waiting room... which is needed in my opinion.

Emne: waiting room time limits
Is there any way to make it so games in the waiting room are automatically deleted after a specific period of time? Say a week and no matter what they get deleted?

That should help to clean out the waiting room, and hopefully should get people to put more reasonable time limits on there games, which all leads to less craziness like there is in there now...

Emne: Re: Tournaments
Snoopy: I would think that pawns would want to become members to alleviate this problem since they would no longer have to wait for the tourney to finish once they are a member... Instead they can enter as many tournies as they want! I highly doubt any pawn thinks this such an issue that they won't become a member... in fact it should only make them want to be a member more!

Ensuring that every tourney can be handled would be quite tidious, for someone would have to verify every tourney automated decision (likely), and as BK grows, that would only become a bigger and bigger job... The only tourney style that I could see an automatic system working for is single elimination, which could speed up the overall tourney time to completion a little, but for all of the other tournies, this simply isn't feasible since you have so many elements coming into play on who is going into the next round (S-B is affected by every other game, so every player must be finished in order to calculate the overall standings for all of the other players! Hence, tournies using that feature to determine who plays in the next round can not be started early.)

So long story short, single elimination might work well, but the others... not so.

AbigailII: I was suggesting that the langauges that are supported could have something on the profile... just like when you sign on you see all the flags on the right side, why not have those on the profile to signify what language you speak? Fencer likes the idea, and that is all that matters. I am sure the idea will be added on when he doesn't have higher priority things to do, and has time to do the coding and whatever else it entails!

Almost every member of BK doesn't make a big deal about which flag is used for what language. Just as long as the flag that represents that language is one that makes sense! Almost all understand that it signifies a langauge and nothing more.

Emne: profile language flags
Brainking is a wonderful international site. We have hundreds if not thousands of people from many different countries of the world. Along with that we have many different languages that are spoken. As an American I am not privledged enough to have found a second language that I can speak fluently; however I know there are many members on our site that are fluent in multiple languages. Would it be possible to show what languages each person speaks in their profile by having the representing flag of a language for each country shown? If someone writes in their profile in Italian, Russian, and Greek that they speak those three languages, I can't tell... but the flags could let me know by simply seeing the flag. Hope that makes sense!

I want to be courteous when I meet a new person in a game, and I can't always tell if they speak English (in my case) or another language that I may know a little of. I could then at least greet someone in their own language. :-)
Thanks!
