the type of graphics card is fine. i've had this system for about 12 months now. i can't think of anything out of the ordinary i've been doing in the last few weeks. i've been mainly playing an online game & the last time i played a graphics intensive game was about may/june, and it worked fine then. i've tried 3 different games now & 3dmark and all crash.

thanx for your replys. i got my pc up & running again. i got out the motherboard manual & reset cmos.

now back to my original prob. the pc only crashes when i play games. there's no warning, it just resets & reboots back to desktop with no error message or anything. i had directx 9b & with the game i bought this weekend, i now have 9c installed. i've run a full virus check with AVG free & nothing comes up. I'm currently running macafee online scan to see if that finds anything.

PC specs are:

Abit KV7 motherboard
athlon 3000XP processor
2 x 512mb ddr 400mhz ram
geforce4 5950 256mb graphics card

i've put the latest drivers in from nvidia(june'05) to see if that made any difference.

this problem has only started in the last few weeks.

*edit* macafee hasn't found anything either!

Sujet: dead pc
i've been having problems with pc for the last few days. it's keeps crashing when i'm playing games.

i've tried doing disk cleanup, installed new drivers for graphics card & even turned off anti virus & firewall. nothing seems to work. after a few mins of play on the last 3 games i've tried, the pc just resets. it loads as normal back to desktop with no error message or anything.

in my efforts to try and fix this, i went into bios & tried changing a few thing around to see if that did anything. but my last attempt seems to have killed my pc. i changed the setting in bios to "safe" (i think thats what it was called, the option next to optimal settings), and now my pc won't even boot. all thats on screen is the bios version at the top, then the processor (which shows around 1000mhz instead of 3000+) and it does memory test, but then it freezes. i can't even access bios to change the setting back.

have i totally messed it up, or is there a way to sort it out?

please help.

Andersp: i'm not sure i can go the the webpage. that just seems to be for settings and security. i thought it was somewhere in windows itself.

Andersp: Use a program, something like nero. that has the option of making music cd's, VCD's and DVD's. just select the option you want and it does the rest for you.

Sujet: Home networking
Can someone please give me a brief description or point me in the direction of a website that explains home networking. I recently bought a wireless G modem/router and i have managed to connect my 3 pc's to the net, two via Lan from router and one via wireless network card. the thing i don't know how to do is share files between the pc's. i don't know where abouts on Windows to look. I have named all my pc's and give them all the same workgroup name, but that's as far as i've got.

Antje: You're right. Most modern PC's have network capabilities built onto the motherboard now, so you don't have to buy any extras. i've just bought a wireless modem/router, so mine and the kids computers are all connected to the net

Sujet: Re: Firefox
i've downloaded and installed it, plus a few extensions and themes (my favorite so far is Noia 2.0 (extreme). The only problem i've found so far is this. Myself and my girlfriend both play on this site and when we used IE, we could open 2 seperate windows with different logins and then just swap between them in turn. But Firefox won't let me do that. Everytime i open a second login, then click on the first, it open up the second one in that window also, and vice-versa. Is there something i can change in the setting to overcome this?

Sujet: virus?
can someone help please. i resently updated my virus checker(AVG-free edition v.6). it found a few viruses and killed them except that now i keep getting this same pop up box which says as follows,

AVG Resident Shield
Virus
Trojan horse Backdoor.Agent.BA
is found in file
C:\WINDOWS\system32\resepad.dll
To remove this virus, please run AVG for Windows.

I've tried running Avg again and it finds this virus, but it says it can't heal the file and it can't delete it, so everytime i open a window or start and app, this box pops up.
Can somebody please tell me what to do.
