Indica is a quite popular all-girl rock band in Finland. They have sung all of their songs in finnish before, but now they are going to do an album in english. This is the first sneak-peek into their english production..

Getting the atmosphere on a live show to a video is a very hard task. This is one of the videos where some of the great intensity of rock gig is quite well captured. This video explains is why i like to go see bands play!

PMMP is one of the most popular bands among Finnish youngsters and i can see why they like it! I don't usually like these pop/rock bands but these guys have a lot of energy on stage and some quite decent songs also..

Couple of weeks ago i went to to a Amorphis show where they were recording a DVD to celebrate their 20 years in the music business. It was quite awesome show, can't wait to see the DVD and try to find myself in the audience also. The DVD is supposed to be released sometime during the spring of 2010.

They did this song also on that gig..

Finntroll is a finnish band combining different kinds of metal, some folk music and finnish dance music called humppa (similar to polka). They have quite interesting and unique sound. Their gigs are awesome, i've seen them couple of times and its always just a big party going on. Their next shows are in Spain, Ukraine and Russia.. you should go see them if they come around. Also their new cd should be out soon. Just listening to this song makes me want to have a couple of beers! Cheers :)

As far as crazy coverbands go, Hayseed Dixie is one of my favorites. They have done a whole lot of rock and metal songs in bluegrassish style. Including songs from AC/DC, Kiss, Queen and even Beatles. Here they play a Motörhead song, Ace of Spades. Great fun.

Jim Dandy: Grreat cover! I really like to hear songs covered in a totally different genre. The whole "In a Metal Mood" cd from Pat Boone is full of quite unusual covers including stairway to heaven, enter sandman, smoke on the water and other metal classics. Really fun record to listen to once in a while. But maybe Holy Diver is the best cover of them.

Sujet: RIP Michael Alexander

Horrible news. It seems like i saw the last gig Mike Alexander ever played last sunday. Evile played great and Mike was as energetic as ever. I really enjoyed the show, too bad there were only a handful of others that were really into Evile, rest just seemed to be waiting for Amon Amarth. I never could have guessed that few days later i'm reading news about Mike passing away. Life just is not fair, at 32 he was way too young to go.

Here's a statement from Eviles website:

Michael Alexander - 22.06.77 - 05.10.09

Sadly, just a few days into their European tour with Amon Amarth, Evile's Mike Alexander was suddenly taken ill and rushed to hospital, but tragically passed away in Lulea, Sweden.

Evile members Matt Drake, Ol Drake and Ben Carter have released the following statement:

"This is so hard to find the words to express fully how we feel. We can't believe or accept what's happened. One minute we're talking to our buddy, Mike, the next minute we can never speak to him again.

There's so many things rushing through our heads that we want to say, do and feel. We half expect him to come round the corner and call us 'dickheads'. We can't get our heads around it.

It upsets us so much that he was away from his family when this happened, although knowing Mike, we're at least glad he was on tour doing what he loves.

We're lost for words. We all miss him so much already. He was such a headstrong, genuinely nice guy who loved music and his family. We've got so many brilliant memories with him.

Our hearts go out to his daughter, family and friends at this tragic, difficult time.

Mike is much loved and is sorely missed.

Rest in peace, brother."

Thumbs up to Rammstein for pushing boundaries in music videos! Not a easy thing to do in year 2009. Sure it won't be seen in most music channels, but they'll surely still get lots of attention with this one.

Very well done video. But I didn't like the song too much. And they really have to stop singing in english, it sounds horrible.

Stone is maybe the best Finnish band ever. Too bad i never saw them in their prime in the late 80's. Since their breakup, members of the band have played or still play in many great bands, including Children of Bodom, Amorphis, Suburban Tribe and Waltari. They have reunited for a few shows in recent years, i saw them in 2008 and it was pure ecstacy.

Patrizia sound a little bit like some of Nightwishes earlier work. Never heard of her before, she must be a newcomer in the business?

It would be too easy to post a NW song as a follow up to that. So instead here is a song from Tarot. Marco Hietala is the singer and bass player and also a founding member. And he has written most of Tarot songs.

And if someone did not know, Marco is the bass player in Nightwish also. He started with Tarot in early 80's and he joined NW in 2002. He has said many time that "i just play bass in Nightwish, Tarot really is my band".

If a song makes me cry everytime i hear it, it must be a pretty good song. Antonys voice is quite unique, some might even say haunting. And the lyrics in this one and in many of his other songs are very thought provoking.

"I feel your fists, and i know its out of love, and i feel the whip, and i know its out of love.. I accept and i collect upon my body the memories of your devotion"

Sujet: Death Angel - Dethroned
Bay Area Thrash in 80's is really the best thing that ever has happened in music. And Death Angel is one of the most underrated bands coming from that era. For some reason they never got as big as Megadeth, Metallica, Slayer, Testament, Exodus and others..

I liked them a lot back then and i still do. About a week ago i saw them live for the first time and i was almost like in a trance for the whole show. Just awesome. This song is from their latest album "Killing Season".

Pedro Martínez: I once saw them at Tuska festival. We were quite far away from the stage (actually in a queue to get some drinks) and some dude behind me asked someone: "does that guy have boobs?" Good question i guess :) He would not believe me when i tried to tell him that the singer is female..

Anyways, her normal talking voice is quite delicate and feminine. Its quite impressive how she can get such growl out of her.

I bought live DVD from Arch Enemy called "Tyrants of the Rising Sun" just few days ago. Wow, its one of the best live shows i've ever seen recorded on DVD. Money well spent.

AE:s lead singer Angela Gossow is one the few ladies in metal who does great growling vocals. Quite amazing how she does it. This is the opening track from the dvd, enjoy!

Actually they have done whole Master of Puppets album live, also Number of the Beast album from Iron Maiden and also the full Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd.

I like DT a lot but i don't see the point in doing all those coversongs.

Sujet: Re:
Jim Dandy: I've never quite understood covering songs without adding anything to it. Of course doing covers is good for beginning artists, but Dream Theater does not really qualify for that :) In my opinion if you do a cover you should add your personal touch to it and not just play it just like the original.

DT is great band with lots of talent in all instruments and they do MOP flawlessly in here. Even too flawlessly for this song :) And i think LaBries voice is not really suited for this..
