pedestrian: Wouldn't it be better to change the BKR formula, so that it would only change at the end of an hour (or something like that). With this change, it would calculate for all of those games at the same time and no one would be punished (I know it still isn't perfect...)

Sujet: Re: BKR Lottery
Hrqls: Yes, that would solve the problem rabbitoid pointed out - but not the problem with a strong player getting a ridiculously low BKR because he timed out in a bunch of games. His future opponents would still suffer from that.

Maybe the solution is to use the BKR from the start of the game AND delete someone's BKR if they time out in three games in a row? And (still) delete them from any tournament they have signed up for.

rabbitoid: I think it was essentially the same with the old vacation system, the difference being that the BKR decline happened over the course of a day, not an hour.

In my view, the main problem is that if such a player decides to come back and play more games, his next many opponents will be punished BKR-wise for playing a strong opponent who now has a 700-ish rating.

Maybe it would be possible to suspend a player's BKR if he times out in a certain number of games? His opponents who win on time would all be rated according to the player's BKR at the time of the suspension. The player himself would have to start over and play 25 games to establish a new rating. And, perhaps most important: The player should automatically be deleted from all tournaments he has signed up for, to limit the number of time-outs.

Sujet: BKR Lottery
I've just noticed a curious side effect to the new vacation system: I have 2 chess games against a very strong player who stopped logging in for the past month. His vacation clock is winding down with 7h to go. He has 33 running games, and should time-out in all within one hour. Now here's the twist: When he times out his first game his opponent will "gain" a lot of BKR, but those "gains" for the opponents will drop sharply as the hour advances, because the player who times out will "lose" rating for each finished game. So the first opponent who "wins" gains a lot of rating points from winning against a strong player, the last one gains less, because the strong player has become mediocre within one hour. Tragic...

likewowman2cool: That's the one I was kind of thinking might help him a little, too.

I'm STILL hanging on to hope that someday one more option will be added.
Move and Go to next flagged game

Where you can flag certain games. Prize tournament games might be something one might like to flag, for that option. Or if you have a lot of games, and you know of people who would like you to move fast with them, you could flag that game.

I can think of a few other good applications for that feature!

Carpe Diem: rod is on to something I think. I suggest trying the option listed as "go to the next game with offline player".

It is not perfect, but it would seem to solve most of the problem you seem to be having.

Carpe Diem: Have you checked out the options on the first page of your settings? I mean the part where you can choose which options are in the menu when you "Submit move and .... "

I swore there was an option in that list that might be appropriate for what you are asking. Maybe I'm wrong.

EDIT : Eh, I looked, I guess not. But there are some good options there if you haven't seen them.

Fencer: Thanks for the quick reply. So it sounds like what I'm looking for doesn't exist. :( I guess the best way to go for now is to use the "Play Later" button for games that keep coming back that I want to get to later. If you ever find a way to add this option, it would make things perfect on an otherwise great site.

Carpe Diem: What's needed is a sort by "games that have been waiting for me to move the longest" option. In other words, sort by opponent's last move time.

Sujet: Re: Settings help?
Carpe Diem: Actually, the "Sort next games by" option is obsolete (and should be removed) because games are sorted by time left only due to some performance issues we had observed in the past. It means that "next game" is always the game with the least time left to make a move.

Hi everyone, I'm pretty new here (at least to being a paid member and going crazy with hundreds of games), so please forgive me if this is a stupid question.

Now that I'm signed up for lots of tournaments and have a few hundred games on the go, I'm trying to fix the way games come up for me. I have it set so that once I've moved in a game, it automatically takes me to the next game, as I'm sure most people do. My issue is what the "next game" is. What's happening now is that games I've just moved in keep coming back to the top. So, for example, I'll have 150 games waiting for moves, but sometimes I don't get more than 10 or 20 down the list for an hour (unless I select them manually or use the "Play Later" button, of course) because a few people involved in dice poker (again as an example - could be any game) keep moving quickly, and those games keep popping up. I've tried changing the "Sort next games by" setting, but that doesn't help. Ideally, I'd like it to go through the whole list of games waiting for me before coming back for the next move with anyone. I assume/hope there's a setting somewhere I'm missing.

Ack, I've got that horrible feeling now because I know a tournament that I started recently will go on for years because of this one person. Hasn't moved against anyone in the section yet, has started thousands of games and keeps signing up for more. Will probably end up hijacking hundreds of tournaments.
