Marshmud: Yes, and the strategy of the Democratic party (at least the most left end of it anyway) is to get more and more ppl dependent on the government, as they are most likely to keep voting them in, since they end up depending on the handouts.

It's sickening.

(V): Depends on where you live!
There's federal income taxes
Some states have income taxes (I live in a state that doesn't)

Some states have sales taxes (I live in a state that doesn't)

Then of course there are "Property Taxes" (Mostly to towns/cities ? But I rent, so I don't know how it goes, honestly. Maybe some goes to the State?)

And then also there is registering your car - some of that goes to state, some to town/city.

And of course any local fines, etc, which of course is quite avoidable.

But again. The thing AD is talking about with that stuff about 49% has to deal ONLY with the Federal Income taxes.

It's ridiculous that anyone can say the "rich" don't pay their fair share, when half the country pays NO federal income taxes

Some of this stuff is getting a little too personal again, and needs to stop, please.

Keep it to the topics, and not what you would have to do to be like someone else posting, etc.

Thanks!

Iamon lyme: If you mean me, you couldn't be more wrong. (and you may not, but just in case) I was brought up Baptist. And had very good experiences with the members of my church.
You won't be surprised (if you know me at all) that I will not get into my personal reasons for deciding that organized religion is not for me. Not on a discussion board on the internet, with total strangers. Not my style. Generally

And because of some of the passions on this board, I feel forced to point out yet again, that I'm also NOT Atheist, because some seem to assume that my .... hmm I can't find the right word right now, but my distaste for the bible, means I must be some godless horrible person.

I just do NOT believe what you believe. That's all.

I have my own personal beliefs that I feel no need to share, as I'm not going to (nor do I care to) change anyone else's mind.

I suppose there's a chance that there is some historic "truth" to the story, but I assume the Bible exaggerated it a bunch, or something has been lost in the "translation" over the years. But, I'm a bit biased I guess, since I am not a fan of the book.

The Col: If conservatives are NOT elected, our country will be a miserable mess like parts of Europe, within those 10 years. We are close to the breaking point!

I think you may be thinking more of the social aspect of things, which I suppose I can at least understand a little. Except that I don't believe the federal government should be involved in most of those social aspects at all. (Libs and conservatives will blast me for that. Oh well)

Federal government : smaller the better. Protect our borders and our citizens should be the biggest part of what it does. If it weren't SO involved in everything else, it wouldn't need to confiscate so much of my hard earned money.
And no, I'm NO Mitt Romney with tons of it either. If any thing, I'm barely middle class. But it's those "upper class" people that spend that money and keep us all in jobs. If they and all of us are not allowed to live the "American Dream" where working hard results in success, then why bother working hard. It just breeds mediocrity. It sickens me.
I don't get why this isn't logical to libs and the silly "occupy whatevers"

Of course it's silly to even go 'round n 'round about it all. None of us are going to convince the others that what they believe is wrong.

It's why I tend to sit back and read. I'm a HORRIBLE "debater"

I see all this debate on social issues as a distraction. I know on some level, that it IS important. But in the U.S. right now the CRUCIAL issue is the economy. The Libs are LOVING distractions such as this. Because the areas where we can definitely say the Anointed One has failed, is on the economy.
If we get 4 more years of his incompetence, (and the fools in Congress who support him) we will be in big trouble. Worse trouble than The Great Depression. We will be in the same if not worse shape than parts of Europe are in right now.

I can't wait for November. I look SO forward to voting. Only once though. Silly Libs. Only once.

It's all gobbledy-gook playing with words. There is NO good reason to not require ID. Implemented the sooner the better.

Bill Maher? . What a numbskull HE is! Has NOTHING to do with literacy. Get a grip

It's all background noise. Who cares what either side has to say against it?

Regardless of what party, it should only be people who can legally vote, voting.

And shouldn't make a difference if it's an election year, or a leap year, or a blue moon. Sooner the better.

Voting is important. It's important that only people who can legally vote should vote.

No one can ever give me a good reason why I.D. SHOULDN'T be required to vote. Most ridiculous thing I've ever heard in my life. It's just logical. It's one of the most important things we do. One of the biggest responsibilities, and people SHOULD have to prove who they are to do it. God it sickens me when people are stupid about this.

And let's see some proof that the "Right media" started anything : " I really think the media is the main reason behind it.It started on the right, but the left have decided to hit back just as hard , which is fair of course," It would be just yet another distraction to everything. Then someone shows something that the "Left" did earlier. and so on and so on.
