I think a "Turtle Rating" could be invented and assigned to tournaments. It could be the estimated number of years the tournament will last considered the slowest participants average response times.

norrsken: I very briefly considered playing in the same 21pt tournament you're in. Then I did a few calculations and realized that if two turtles play each other under those conditions, it could easily take 50 years. Apart from everything that's been said (most of which I agree with) it doesn't make sense that one can create a tournament that can last 50 years.

norrsken: I feel with you.
I have started to review the participant list of such tourneys before I join. Many names I know by heart, as I play 50 moves against them ever day; but if there are unknowns, I check their record. Just click on their name, and see
- how many running games
- how many games that are threatening to time out soon
- how much vacation left
- # of moves made yesterday
- check any of their games that is on move 30 and see how long it is running.
together that makes a good enough picture, and even though there are exceptions, rather be save than sorry...

I don't get why some people find it interesting to have 3000 games running and not being able to keep up with it. You would think they learn it after a while, but it seems they don't. Just like Homer Simpson - bang! Aouw! bang! Aouw! bang! Aouw! bang! Aouw! bang! Aouw! bang! Aouw! ...

I think 10 years is highly optimistic

norrsken:   you have to be careful with those 21p move games,  I play alot of games and find there are lots of people that take along time (and within the time limit) to make there moves which they are entitled, only benefit is that by mid march they start to time out in the games..  You are better off sticking max to the 5 game matches and if you like to play fast stick to games that are 3 days or less,   There are many people here who play large quantities of games and they play fast and they do not time out.  Many of us with the higher paid memberships are here because we like the unlimited amount of games and  we play all our games daily

I am involved in a backgammon tournament with 21 p matches. After 8 weeks one of the matches has reached 7 completed moves. With more than 20 moves per game and roughly 20 games per match the tournament will last for maybe 10 years with the response times one of the participants use. He is involved in more than 3000 games. I think there should be a limit so you can't have so many games going on. Even if you are on the highest membership level. I am 64 and maybe I will have to make "The final resignation" before this match is over.

coan.net: Oh yes... It seems great to me (and I think you also use that motiv) different type of games. It would be increased with the aleatory factor! :) So:

- 1 "random chess games" tournament;

- 1 "random checkers games" tournament;

- 1 "random gammon games" tournament;

...

I think it would be very interesting!

It would be quite cool if pawns were allowed to play in ponds, and there would be more competition too! :o)

Any thoughts?

Looks like there are people out there that are dumb enough to answer these ads (or they would have given up on it).
Maybe we should have a BKR rating for this too? If you fall for it, 'you lose the game' and rating points; if you can control yourself to ignore it, you 'win' and go up?
