Subject: profile language flags
Brainking is a wonderful international site. We have hundreds if not thousands of people from many different countries of the world. Along with that we have many different languages that are spoken. As an American I am not privledged enough to have found a second language that I can speak fluently; however I know there are many members on our site that are fluent in multiple languages. Would it be possible to show what languages each person speaks in their profile by having the representing flag of a language for each country shown? If someone writes in their profile in Italian, Russian, and Greek that they speak those three languages, I can't tell... but the flags could let me know by simply seeing the flag. Hope that makes sense!

I want to be courteous when I meet a new person in a game, and I can't always tell if they speak English (in my case) or another language that I may know a little of. I could then at least greet someone in their own language. :-)
Thanks!

Phil (rednaz23)

Subject: Stoooopid settings warning
I set up a game with time limits of 1/0/15. I meant to use settings of 1/.8/15. Of course this is lame because there's no way to add bonus time and get to the full limit of 15 days. The game was effectively a two day game and I lost on a timeout even though I was way ahead on material.

We need a warning whenever 'dumb' timer settings are selected for a game/match.

Could there be an option at the tournament page:

"Show only tournaments where I signed in"?

This could be useful when players like me think they have too much games and are too lazy to find out where I am signed in.

When playing Team Tournaments (and challenge matches i think), could we have the option to Goto the Tournament like we do with normal Tournaments.
It does not give us that option when playing Team games for some reason even if we have it ticked in our Settings

MTC: I am in a tournament where there was several months in between rounds due to a few meaningless games. This tournament had many world-class players in it (plus me), but several of them have not been here for a month or more and now those games will simply time out. It is too bad that such a wonderful tournament with so many strong players will have such a crappy ending due to Fencer's inability to program BrainKing to move tournaments forward in a timely manner.

Cubs93: I remember reading that a scrabble type game is on Fencers to-do list, so hopefully it will be a game we see on this site at some point. As long as there are free to use dictionaries in different languages - I don't think he had a problem making the game with them - that is the users would just need to pick which dictionary they are going to use before the game is started (English, Spanish, etc...) I'm not personally aware of how many different language free-to-use dictionaries there are to use - I know of a couple of English ones, but that is about all. (again, probable more - I'm just unaware of them)

Anyway, point of the post - A scrabble type game was on the to-do list of Fencer at one point - so hopefully that will be a game that we can see on this site some day.

Is it possible to make some matches in a round start before the previous round is complete?

In this tournament for example; the first 7 third round matches could be started even though the last 2 second round matches aren't finished yet, but currently the system waits for every match to be completed before the next round starts.

This would help speed up tournaments.

In the statistics pages, could we make users that have been away for more than a month grey? Or at the very least have an active players page? We have many members on there that no longer are playing on BK... Why should they hold their spot forever!?

Could we have something like a quicker way (a javascript pop-up, or something like that)to know what are the changes when we promote a piece, for example, in minishogi. It's a bit annoying to have to go to the game rules, and then to japonese chess rules, to find out if a rook adds a new way of moving, or if it changes it, like it happens with a silver general

Would it be possible to also have completed tournies for each game? I would like to see how many tournies I have won out of how many tournies I have entered for each game... Any possibility of that?

In frog finder most of the moves are shots. I think shooting should be set as a default activity: So if you wanted to shoot you'd just click on the square to be shot at. And if your guessing there would be button for that just like now. It would save one pageload on most moves, totaling quite a few even on one game.

joshi tm: Not allowing players to resign is silly. What point does it serve? Sure, if I resign in a gammon position while I could have played on and lose for one point, I'd help my opponent. But if I play chess and I let my opponent take my queen, I'm helping him as well. And if I play bad moves in backgammon, I help my opponent as well. Do you want to forbid that as well? Besides, what is the penalty of resigning going to be? What happens if the person who is not allowed to resign simply won't move in the game anymore? Or worse, starts moving just before timeout, dragging the game on forever? That hurts everyone, delaying the finish of the tournament.

Harassed: Yep, that stinks. Also the same way for TG. A timed out game causes the player removed from the tournament. And for resignations, mmm, what about... Players can't resign? (also that's a severe warning, so that should be in 72 pixel size letters described in the FAQ section)

Subject: Re: A new Tournament request
joshi tm: But what to do with timeouts, resignations? Also in triple gammon tournament one might help someone to win by resigning earlier in a lost position, he doesn't lose more this way but he helps the opponent, who might be in direct competition with other player, gaining advantage this way.

Subject: A new Tournament request
I like Triple Gammon, a great new refreshing type of tournament. That gave me another idea for any game that uses highest points to win (like Froglet, Assimilation and Mancala, or even Anti Backgammon):

Round Robin, two standard games per player:
Instead of scoring one point, players score points equal to the outcome of te game. E.g if a Mancala game ends in 30-18, player A scores 30 points to his total and player B scores 18. BKR resolution as normal. If all games are finished, count all points scored in all matches, highest wins.

This way of playing destroys Mancala and Cheversi advantage, since every player is White AND Black against every other player, trying to score as most points as possible.

I didnt know I was color blind, really. But when I can sometimes barely tell the difference between the yellow and the pink dots, it makes me wonder!

Maybe its possible to substitute these colors for some other symbols with the use of some outside of Bainking script as well?

Subject: Alternate piece set for Logik
For some time I thought I was the only colour-blind person here, but in fact there seems been a consensus on the Logik board for an alternate piece set which is not colour-based.

Numbers or letters written on circles have been suggested. Letters would probably be best, as numbers might get confused with the number of clues or the number of pegs of one colour ("three Bs" is easier to manage than "three 2s").

I like Logik, but with the present colours the game is barely playable for me. I am either destroying my eyes, either right-clicking on all grey and pink pegs, either both.

I don't know if this has ever been asked or suggested before , but I would like to be able to go to the ponds sign-up page and check 3-4 or 6-8 ponds and sign up for them all at once instead of having to do each one individually.
it would save 5-10 minutes and 20-30 pages I would have to see...
it could work something like checking all my messages and deleting them all at once! :o)

MadMonkey: Well, the BKR's listed at the top of the fellowship pages ARE based on team results.

The BKR's I was concerned about are the ones used for the Site-wide Team Tournaments. When you look at the the Table with all the teams in it, the BKR's there are the average of all team members. (The way it was originally) Fencer introduced the BKR's figured by results, shortly after team vs. team challenges were introduced.

I just want them to match. I don't particularly care which method is used. (Though, I like the BKR based on team play results better)
