I'll have to wait until I close out my browser, which I have too many tabs open now to do so. But if it does, YIPPIE! I have MOST my other game sites setup to take me directly to my gamelist, without having those messy logins (I had to play around with my cookies to force some sites, but messing with BK's cookies didn't help ).

Fencer: I just retired my 486 a few months ago. I got the computer used in 1995. Though I usually just used AOL's browser I did have NetScpae 4.08 on it. This was from before NetScape went out of business because of Microsoft adding their browser to their Windows program. I think AOL ending up buying NetScape and released a 6.0 version (Skipping the 5.0 series of numbers), but I don't know if NetScape as owned by them is around any more.
That old computer is why I started playing on turned based sites. I couldn't keep up on live sites against newer computers and broadband. Having this new computer sure makes it a lot easier to play here now. Pages load lots faster. If I ever go back to the DSL or another broadband set up, I'm sure that will really get me some fast loading.

As an instant messenger, I like trillian. You can hook up with Yahoo, AOL(AIM), ICQ, MSN & IRC, and the basic version is free.

I have been using MSN messenger for 7yrs and NEVER had a problem. But then again, I keep my anti virus and firewall up to date. And all my received foles are scanned (as are my outgoing ones)

I'm 99.9% sure that its also the only one that works for webtv as they "were" the same provider. *Microsoft*

I thought most people are avoiding MSN messenger.
there are ones with much better features.
and the fact that MSN messenger permanently leaves a port open makes it easy for spyware & viruses to get in.
I learned the hardway.then I reviewed tham all.I am using ICQ now,esp since it recently has new features:
buddy list can be imported from other messengers
messenger games

but my google lab buddies tell me googles new messenger leaves them all behind.
I havent checked it out yet.

I have a problem w/ my messenger & don't know what to do about it...I tried at least 6 times to change my password & after each time I gave 1 day before I tried to log into it (for my Hotmail account)& keep getting that I was logging in to much. Would I have to completely delete everything related to it or should I have to reboot? I can still get into my Hotmail but not the messenger part.

Fencer: Thank you, now all three offending pages are happily full of the information they were supposed to have :)

As a software engineer myself (on a sabbatical right now) I'd raise your adrenaline a bit in order to get things fixed, rather than shut up when I am sure there's something obviously wrong outside my control ;) If you wouldn't mind, and just out of sheer curiosity, what was the problem after all? And would the solution to this problem prevent others from having it in the future?

Fencer: Hi Fencer, this is playBunny logged in as WhiteTower. I'm accessing this account from London whereas WhiteTower is in Ireland, so presumably I'm using a different routing infrastructure. Certainly it's a different computer! And I'm on Windows 2000 Pro. I don't know what WhiteTower's OSes at home and work are.

I can confirm that the same pages are giving the same problem. What appears in View Source is [!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"-HTML-HEAD-META http-equiv=Content-Type content="text/html; charset=windows-1250"-/HEAD-BODY-/BODY-/HTML] for Internet Explorer and simply [html-body-/body-/html] for Firefox.

All other pages work fine, as did the dozen games that I challenged myself (ie. playBunny) to and resigned as WhiteTower. Mwaahaahaahaaaaaaa. ;-))

It's a puzzler. :-/

Oh, and you can check out the web version here (without getting a screensaver.)

WhiteTower: To verify your presumptions you will have to test the case NOT in your next area.
If you are able to reproduce the whole on a PC far away from here (in a shell, remote X or VNC) then we can assume a bk problem.

But fencer tried your account at himself ... and he said all is ok. So what?

chessmec: In case you didn't read my earlier message, I said that the same problem appears from two COMPLETELY different PCs, setup-wise and connection-wise, therefore it is NOT a problem from MY side, but either an account or a BrainKing problem - unless you can logically find a third alternative...

Hrqls: if somebody has an x-server so that he can try it remote-logon he can do it. i can offer him only a linux shell (but in which he can test in lynx the pages).

I think the problem is the computer (NOT fencer or BK). In the problem about the logo (posted here, http://mec.tuwien.ac.at/ ) the problem was only ONE PC (which is the same as mine, from the same image and so on ...).

i am willing to test it for you if you want me to do it (if you want to be secure you send fencer a pm with the time you changed the password, and then he can always turn moves back when i would make a move in your account .. but i wouldnt)

Fencer: I notice the same thing from my work PC (behind a company firewall) as well as from my home PC (standard broadband connection) - so it must be something either in my account data in the database, or with BrainKing itself...
