I find my self exporting a lot of favorites(bookmarks) to files.
does a utility exist that can convert a "bookmarks.html" file to a .txt or a .doc file?

After capturing the screen with the "Print Screen" key, the image can be pasted into any graphics program, so I don't see the need for a dedicated screen capture utility.

As for browsers, I suggest Opera.

I have used PrintKey 2000 for a long time. The people who make it I believe stopped support on it and such - but is free and can be found here:

>http://www.webtree.ca/newlife/printkey_info.htm

From the screen shot on that page, it's nice free program which lets you do a few different things.

*edit: yea, just looked - the company no longer support freeware, but now supports a paid version called PrintKey-Pro. But you can still get the old freeware version from the link above.

Some simple things to do is to clear your browser cache - do a full reload of a page. (In internet exporer - hold down shift while you hit reload or hold down shift while you hit F5)

Well, so I think thunderbird would be suitable for you. You don´t have to always log in on same page and write your passwornd and login name.
I think at gmail you can find guidance how to settle your e-mail account and then it is more compfortable. :)

It would be interesting to know what is popular and why.

Hrqls: Yes I´m not expert too, but it should be simply explained your way....
Well, I read on web these experiences:
WinXP + SP2, EI 6 --> reboot
WinXP + firefox --> reboot (but I think version 1.0.4 should not have problems with it
Win 2000 + IE --> reboot
Win 200 + firefox --> reboot
Opera no problem (it is very good browser)
win2k sp 4 + firefox1.0.4 --> reboot
Win 98 + firefox1.0.4 --> reboot
linux no problem

So as you can see, win has a problem with it and IE too.

Hrqls: yes, you´re right, it is very primitive but it works :) of course it depends on what kind of operating system and browser you are using. (maybe this can be one of the way how to find out how many people are using Bill´s system and IE )
On that page is simple image, size 1024x768 but in HTML code and his size is settled as width="9999999" height="9999999" so when you open the page, your browser is trying to load image of size 9999999 x 9999999 by allocating needed space in memory...and then You need to have some TeraBytes of memory to be able to load that image

Sometimes I am very suprised and scared how your system easily can be attacked.

Here is Html code of page:
<p><img src="pic.png" width="9999999" height="9999999" alt="puh" /></p>

it looked like it was loading a very big image so my first guess is it was overloading my graphics memory ? but as i said i have very little knowledge about that part :)

i also wonder how i got only an empty html page source code when i downloaded the page from your link and it showed more when i opened the page itself (or at least it tried to show more ;))

to anyone reading how also feel the urge to click his link .. it will cause your computer to stall and you will have to reboot :)

Hrqls: I can agree with you mostly in all points. Btw. chessmec said he hates windows :)) But I don´t care.
Yes, the main problem (but for linux users it is its advantage) you need to have some acknowledge and it is more difficult to understand and learn using it, but I think when you find how works all applications on it you can tweak it and use it how you like it. But....with Windows you can do that too, maybe in not so "deepest" way, but you can.
The problem of windows is it is more vurnelable to viruses, trojan horses...etc because of its majority. It´s true.
But didn´t you thnk sometimes that user and it´s behaviour (browsing, ignorance) caussed all problems and then....you can only pray .

About MAC I think the popurality is based on its marketing which is excellent. No doubt about that. But when you come to see closely on its hardware, software, op.syste "TIGER" you realised that has nothing to do with good and stable alternative. Yes, it look great, it has interesting desing, but nothing more apart that. And it is very, very I say very expensive. You can spent your money more effective using intel,amd and windows or linux. Just one example:
it use slowly G5 processors, old ATI 9600 graphic cards, old PATA hardrives...and everything for more amazing 1000$. And Tiger?
Each new uptade is considered as a new system (they are crazy, aren´t they?), so when you buy for example MacOS 10.1 and you want to upgrade to Mac OS 10.4 you have to buy as a new system. And it cost a lot of money inspite of fact it is based on UNIx system...yeah, it is the way it goes.

Any comments appreciated... (MAC fans, where are you? but not blame please)

Subject: Re:
temo: *nod* windows has its advantages as well as unix as well as mac .. btw i didnt see anyone say on here they hate windows :)

i have windows because of the games, and because everyone uses it .. i program in visual basic because it makes it possible for me to write new applications quite fast .. with a user interface which all users will recognize .. which will run on a windows machine which all of the users will have

the problem with virusses is that there are so many for windows machines because the majority uses a windows machine .. so its more 'fun' for a viruswriter to concentrate on windows ..
also some writers of virusses (i said 'some', not 'most' ;)) make those because they are not satisfies with windows ... people not satisfied with unix and with the knowdledge to write virusses can just join the group and improve unix .. thats not possible with windows

the power of windows is in its number of users and its ease to install and use

the power of unix is its power to being manipulated by the users (although it requires quite some knowledge)

the power of mac is its graphical software (i think?) and that it uses its own hardware which makes it more stable as it doesnt have to be able to adjust to other hardware

(my 2 cts :))

Sorry guys.... and girls :), it is very simple to say "I hate Windows..etc" but then on the other hand you have to say some facts why.
I´m not a big fan of it (and Bill too ), but for an average user it is good operating system. Yes, you can say it not safe system, it has many security holes, it´s true, but when you have your system protected in good level (I mean antivirus,firewall...) you can use this system in many ways.
It has "friendly user" interface, it is not so difficult to "get in" and work on it.
There are a lot of applications for Windows, but can you tell the same about Linux?
I don´t blame Linux, I am about to learn how it works and keen on about all things connected with this system, but you cannot compare Windows (XP) to Linux.

And I am sure everyone of you is using Windows beside LInux or UNIX, Mac....

Any thooghts?

PhatPlaya: i used hp unix in college and sometimes use it at work now

i used to love unix because it was so 'light' compared to windows which simply loads everything an average users might need (and then some more :))

nowadays the linux distributions include a heavy graphical user interface (often kde) and several other processes which increases the load

my idea was to turn my old 200mhz machine in a fast unix machine ... but i dont think that will work with any of the standard new distributions .. so i will have to do some tweaking :)

i havent used it at home yet .. i am in the process of sorting out the data on my harddisks, back up the important parts, and format and install xp and linux on it .. i dont know which distribution yet though

i had linux on my pc at work .. but i couldnt get it work with the network card (barebone system with a network controller on the motherboard) .. found some sites about it .. but neither worked .. i gave up back then as i had more projects starting up .. will have to try again it in the near future :)

Subject: I hate Compaq and Windows XP!
Any UNIX users out there? I just got through an ordeal with my mother's Compaq Presario. Windows XP stopped working and my attempts to reinstall the operating system failed because the Compaq version of Windows XP destroys the master boot record of the hardrive. It automatically loads 68 K of junk into the MBR directly from the BIOS. Then Windows XP cannot be installed any more because the Microsoft use of the master boot record and Compaq's become incompatible. The problem is so pernicious that Mandrake Linux and Sun Open Solaris failed to install. Finally, I gor Free BSD to install because it installs directly from DOS and the installation can be done without interacting with the master boot record. Now I have a nifty UNIX machine. I am really impressed with the KDE Windowing environment. You can set it to look like several other operating systems. It can easily emulate Microsoft Windows, a Mac, etc. Anyone out there using UNIX or Free BSD? Just curious to see if anyone prefers UNIX to Windows XP, or if anyone has gone through the operating system migration.
