Subject: Re: Team tournaments
TexasToest: I would love to see more team tournaments - BUT I would REALLY like them to be spread out more - maybe 5-6 to start at a time (and not 15-20+ starting all of a sudden)

My suggestions - since Fencer used a "Bond" theme last time, how about a Star Wars theme this time

Backgammon - team size 8 - The Phantom Menace
Ludo - team size 7 - Attack of the Clones
Triple Dice Poker - team size 7 - Revenge of the Sith
Frog Finder - team size 6 - A New Hope
Dice Chess - team size 6 - The Empire Strikes Back
Logic - team size 6 - Return of the Jedi

Then after a month or so, start 6 more - like:
1. Dice Poker
2. Mancala
3. Battleboats Plus
4. Hyper Backgammon
5. ??
6. ??

... split them up over time - mix them up with different types of games, etc...

Cool - I just noticed the setting of "Number of game notation lines to show: "

This is cool - it's always been a pain since I hate to have the game notation there at all, but there are a few games where you need to either see the last move or know what move number you are on (like ice age chess) - so unless those facts are moved to the game board, having the number of game notations lines at 2 or 3 is pretty nice.

... still would rather not have it show at all - but I like it a lot better then loading 50+ lines of game notations.

1. Get a piece of paper.

3. Go to "My profile", and near the top - click on "change password"
4. Put those 10 random letters & numbers in as your new password
5. Save & log out

Andersp: Thing is, where do you draw the line. The thoughts and posts of other people can be very unappropriated for kids, so should Fencer & mods also approve all posts?

The moderators of the Music board is doing a good job in getting a few extra moderators to help watch the board, along with the global moderators who will also be keeping an eye on the board. And I can tell you as a global moderator, if someone does try to push the limits of posting bad videos - we will not have to think twice to take away the rights to post to any board. So hopefully no one will try to push the limits, but if someone does - it will not be long before they will not be heard from again. And since pawns can't post video's, we also don't have to worry about someone creating a free pawn just to continue to post their bad videos.

But this is a fun interesting new feature... which in a few weeks, I would guess it will be down to a small handful of users who will be posting video's regularly.

Subject: Large tournament sections
First idea is on the tournament description, start putting a line that says: "Pawns, Bishops, & Knights: XX Game spots are needed to start this tournament"

Currently - section size of 4-8 = 5 spots free (10 spots for 2 games per.)

Why not just do the following.

Section size of 9-13 = 10 spots free (20 for 2 games - which for a pawn, means NO current games)

Section size of 14-16 = 15 spots free (30 fo 2 games - with pawns not able to join)

Subject: Official Tournaments
I've said for a long time that I would love to see some sort of "Official Tournament" - something ran by the site, that is "Official" - something that if someone was to join just 1 tournament, this would be the one...

I would say once a month, have an "Official Monthly Tournament" of all the games. One month do a quicker 2 days time limit, the next month do a longer 5 day time limit.

Then in December/January, have an official "Yearly Championship Tournament" of all the games.

This way if someone was to join just 1 or 2 tournaments, they could just join the "Official" ones which hopefully will be pretty big and fun.

I say only 1 a month since there are plenty of other tournaments to join. Plus I would stay away from prizes - except maybe awarding "Brains" as the prize - and maybe just for the "Yearly Championship" tournament.

But monthly official tournaments - A BIG YES - Something that stands out and says "Hey, there are a lot of tournaments - so if you are going to join one, join me - since I will hopefully have a lot of players providing a nice challenge and fun games to play".

In a fellowship, as a BIG BOSS you can send 2 types of messages - (1) message to all members and (2) message to everyone in one team.

Now I know if someone turned off the "get message from BIG BOSS" option, they will not get the message sent to everyone. But will they get the message that is sent to everyone on the team?

I just need to know if I can use that option to get to everyone, or if I should send individual messages to each member. Thanks.

It reminds me when redesigning our Hot Air Balloon website, I had all these little hot air balloons floating on the screen - it was REALLY cool. But even though it was really cool and worked very well for my browser, I did not realize that it messed some people up to the point that they were unable to see the site. Looking back, I know the extra fun "flash" for the site, I should have made it an option to turn on/off. Anyway, I'm babbleing now....

I just hope Fencer will put an option to not show it since I'm not going to be able to load the AdBlock extension on every computer I play from..... but I wanted to mention it in case someone else see's the problem and they don't think they are going nuts with some links not working.

Well I got on a different computer, and now the dragon showed up on my own .css file that I'm using - and after it went across the screen, all the links that were under where the red dragon went across at (like the "Main Page") was no longer clickable - like the path the dragon took is over the top of the link making it no longer work.

Fencer - going to make it any easier to remove the dragon - I really don't want to have to load the Ad Block plus on every computer I use just so I can hide the dragon..... yet another thing to load when all I want is a faster loading site... :-(

1. You have to have it on the Castle Theme.

2. The dragon is on a delay - about 15-20 seconds. So load the page and wait.

Pbarb2: On the top of the page, there should be a "Castle" "Simple" and "No Font" choice that you can click on. Also in settings, main page - you should see those 3 options.

Subject: Re: Red dragon?
Pbarb2: OK, did some playing around - it looks like the dragon is only on the castle theme - apparently another "feature" or something.

So one way is to switch to another theme - kind of strange Fencer would add something like that to discourage people from using the Castle theme, but whatever.

Another option is if you use FireFox, you can add the AdBlockPlus Extention - and hide the dragon image: http://brainking.com/images/gui/dragon.gif

Normally I would not tell people to get the ad blocker since it would also hide legitimate ad's on the site that helps Fencer get a little extra money, but until he adds a switch to remove it himself, this is the only other option (other then switching to a different theme)

Ad Block Plus: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865

Simply click on the "Install now" - then next time you see the dragon image, you can right-click on the dragon and choose "adblock image" and that image will now be hidden.

In a persons profile, it will show previous user names. Question: If I were to change my name, does that open up for someone to use my previous name? That is lets say I change my username to something that I only planned on using for a short time and planned to change back - could someone create a new account and "steal" my old name since I was not using it at the time? 3. Bankroll version of Dice Poker (26 rolls for the game - use as many or as little per turn - for total of 26 in game)
4. Bankroll version of Triple Dice Poker
5. Dark Ataxx
6. Dominoes
7-12. Pick some domino variants
13. Dark Battleboats Plus - You start with 5 shots each, but you lose 1 for each of your ships that are sunk. Not only do you not see which ships you sunk, you DO NOT see your own board either! (This is to solve the problem of seeing your opponent shooting 4 shots and hence knowing you sunk a ship that way)
14. Hex Battleboats Plus (play on a hex type board)
15. Hex Dark Battleboats
16. Rifle/Shoot Chess
17. Chessky
18. Dark Crazy Screen Chess
19-50. 3+ player games. Imagine Frog Finder with 4 players & slightly larger board!
51. Frog Finder w/ lily pads decoys. Add 2 decoys for each player that will act like a frog, but won't count against if "guessed". If guessed, it will not give nor take away any points - just be reviled as a decoy in the game.
52. (like ponds) - BrainWar - for 5-15 players. Each player starts out with 13 cards of 1 suit (2-Ace). You pick which card to play each round (13 rounds per game). You goal is to place the highest unique card. Winner gets all played cards. At end, add up value of cards - highest amount wins. (So for example 3 players - player 1 plays an Ace, player 2 plays an Ace, player 3 plays a 9 - player 3 wins because it is the highest UNIQUE card of the hand - and gains 14+14+9 points) Plus other rules with I won't list here.
53. (like ponds) - Dark BrainWar for 5-15 players (same as above but Other players DO NOT see what cards each player has left, and does not see current score (other then their own) – You can see what cards were played – but you don’t know who played what.)
54. (like ponds) - High/Low Cards vs. dealer. (for 5-unlimited) - each person is dealt a card, where they have to guess if their card will be higher or lower then the dealers card. If correct, stay until next round - if not, eliminated.
55. Scrabble like word game
56-75. Card Games! What type of game is missing from most of the turn based game sites? Card Games.

OK, there is my first 75 of 250 games. Fencer, get to work.

Gabriel Almeida: I posted some ideas at some point somewhere.. I think, but can't remember.

But I would love to see the Brains & points system be merged - that is you gain brains for moves & such - very very small amount. The biggest difference is remove any true value from the brains - that is don't exchange brains for paid membership. But replace it with non-value things like for example, a certain amount of brains can buy an extra vacation day. A certain amount of brains can give you the option to post (an approved) message to either system news or the blog for a day. (great way to advertise your fellowship or tournament.). A certain amount of brains could give you a fun color of rook like purple rook or something. Many things could be thought of to be in the "store" - all of which does not cost Fencer anything other then time to set it up. Kind of like a "money" system - which of course take any true value away from it so it does not turn this site into a betting system which some block.

Anyway, I know I had some plans written up at one point - I think might still be in my notepad. My opinion - scrap the current brains & points action system, and turn it into something that will be used to it's full potential.

Oceans Apart: Well (1) I normally don't pay attention to the Brains system - I think the Brains system could be improved into a GREAT system, but as it is now - it does not impress me so I normally don't even pay attention to the Brains. The only reason I posted was someone below mentioned it. But in my case (2), I probable did not get it since that person did not purchase the membership themselves - but it was part of the Easter deal and I did something a little different with the memberships I bought and split them up some - so since the system did not do it all automatically where it probable is set to award brains, since it was done manually by Fencer - I'm sure the Brains is not something he normally thinks about. So if he reads this and decides that I deserve some Brains - Great. If not, O'well - as the system is now, Brains don't mean much to me.

Subject: bug or porely implemented feature?
I mentioned this before, with no response - and I'm not sure if it is a bug, or just something that basically makes the feature pointless.

In the tournament templates, it does not save the name or description as part of the template.

Those are the areas that for me takes the longest to fill out - and to have a template with those 99% filled out where I just need to make a small change for each template would be VERY helpful - but right now all that a template saves is the settings for the tournament - which is something that usually takes me 10 seconds to do without a template.

Any chance to get this bug fixed - the templates are a great idea for someone like me who makes a lot of tournaments, but un-usable right now.
