... of course after I wrote that, I had a minor slow-down of the site & pages not loaded.

Not bad, but is the first time I've seen the site really slow down. :-)

I think he done it because he was expecting the site to be slow all running from the same machine - but I have not seen much of a difference.

I would turn back on time for good (well unless things do get worse, then bring back the time suspension)

once a day..can you remove the game time suspension?
Thus meaning, any one abusing it or not, their games will time out as they should. Because youve only done it incase the site crashes havent you. So whats the harm turning it off for an hour each day while you are online fencer

Unicode is another character system, like ascii. Since the ascii character set (the one most widely used, including on this site) nearly restricts characters to english, it does not work so well for languages that are not english. Unicode support will make it much easier for Fencer to support additional languages.

24. November 2004, 01:12:08

Subject: Unicode
Unicode is similar to ASCII...It uses two bytes per character/letter. This way extended character sets such as chinese can be supported.

Is this correct?

what is:full unicode support?

I did remove the member form the fellowship and he was automatically removed from the team.

I would have prefered to just remove him from the team. The team is not signed up for (or in) a tournament yet.

Nope ... That's why I asked !

i think to take them out of a team that is signed up (is that what you meant) you would leave the tournament and resign up.

What is the effect of such a lapse mid tournament though?

Summertop, if you remove someone from your fellowship, they are automatically removed from teams too. But you can't take them out of teams and leave them in the fellowship.

Subject: Expired memberships
I had a member of one of my fellowships who let his membership expire (revert back to pawn). This led me to these two suggestions...

1. the Big Boss (and team captian) need a way to remove someone from a team (or did I just not see how this is done).

2. When you remove someone from a fellowship, it would be nice to be able to say "Why".

I plan to add Chinese Chess. But first I have to 1) finish current tasks, 2) learn how to play it ;-)

Both Dominoes and Outbreak would also be great as multi-player games :o)

One can always play back through the previous moves, as one does in slow games of dark chess. It would be nice, as a starting point, to know how many two player card games are being requested(?)

Part of a game like Hearts of Bridge is remembering what has been played. Viewing past hands is not allowed. That would make turn based cards difficult if moves came with long time gaps in between. :-(

Multi-player games (3 or more) won't work, but Gin is 2 player. With 10 cards dealt to each player, the hand can't go more than 32 ply + whatever pickups are made. While the hand _can_ theoretically go long, in practice, they don't.

You can also add the variations, such as straight gin and Oklahoma.

I don't remember now what the people who said it couldn't be done, said. I was just guessing.
I'm a card playing addict. Believe me, I would LOVE to see card games here.

A game of royal casino lasts 24 moves each, in chess terminology that's a miniature, so it's difficult to posit length as an objection.

I would love to see card games on a turn based game site!! (As real time card sites are not compatible with WebTV) .. but I think it has been pointed out that most card games would not work well on a turn based site. I can't remember the reason. Too lengthy possibly?..
Though that doesn't seem to stop people from playing anti-backgammon! lol.

Even though I do not play dominoes much, I would think Dominoes might bring a new wave of people to this game site just to play dominoes! (which they would then see the rest of the site, and hopefully buy a membership.)
