Someone called to my attention the fact that it would be easy to create multiple pawn IDs and increase one's chances of winning a section prize. So, in order to participate in the event, please send an email to GothicChessInfo@aol.com with the following information:

1. Your full name (checks to winners will only be paid out to what you send)
2. Your complete mailing address
3. Your ID that you will be using.

Before you win any money, you will also be required to submit your social security number for tax purposes. THIS WILL ONLY BE ASKED OF THOSE WHO ACTUALLY HAVE WON PRIZE MONEY. You will receive the appropriate tax schedule from us to sign and return prior to getting your check. Do yourself a favor and claim your winnings as income if you are a United States citizen!

The address provided is the only one we will send checks to.

If there are any screen names that have not registered the information prior to the start of the tournament, they will be removed from the event.

This is the only way I know of to insure that only one person is using one screen name.

Please pass this word to all you know who are in the tournament.

Would 3 people from the same household (same address, same pc) be eligible to enter? Perhaps "one prize per household" should be a rule.

Just to reiterate, if the information is not supplied, I will assume it is because there are multiple IDs being used by the same person, and any and all such IDs without information attached will be removed from the event.

Those uncomfortable with this should remove themselves prior to the event.

I am sorry to impose this, but as I mentioned, someone could have multiple IDs created just to try and get and one or more section prizes.

I am sure everyone who does not have multiple IDs in the tournament will agree this is necessary. Those who object may be the ones who have created new IDs to cheat in the fashion mentioned.

You will notice several of the pawns in this event were created AFTER the tournament was announced.

I joked before but this measure does seem reasonable to me and I do see the point. After all it is not everyday $3,000 is put up for grabs. I would assume in such a case that the sponsor would have a right to take certain precautions. Just my thoughts. :o)

Ed, I have a serious problem with this for several reasons.

I have nothing against giving you my name and email address to check against cheating; I consider that a least precaution.

but I, for one, am an extreme paranoid in anything concerning transmitting any personal information to anyone. such as physical address, ID numbers, bank account, whatever. much more so transmitting such information to someone on the world wide sieve...

and by the way, non US citizens (there are some around, me for example) don't have a US social security number.

this is really putting the cart before the horse, since I probably stand very little chance of winning anything. but the principle bothers me.

I would be LIABLE for paying the taxes of the winners if they do not pay it. I have given out my ssn# to casinoes, chess tournaments, poker tournaments, and I have never had a problem.

If you don't like the US Tax Law, join the club. But nobody is getting a check without their SSN being reported on a standard 1099 form.

I sympathise with your tax law, but again, what about us non-gringos? we don't have an american SS number.

rabbitoid: About SSN, I used to have this problems two years ago when MP3.com wanted to send me a check for my music because we also don't have anything like social security number. It was solved by sending a filled W-8BEN form for taxing purposes. I don't know all background of these things but what I am sure about is that I never had any more problems with that.
