Hrqls: Already using the minimal and until tonight no difference. Even stopped my external style to try to minimize the hops between me and server! Doing everything I can to minimize site. Finally tonight after how long??? I get some decent load to play my games.

Well blow me down with a feather. This site is actually running at a halfway decent speed. Still not as good as it used to be but.........................206 players online. 11.07pm DST (Daylight Savings Time) in the Land Down Under (Australia for those you who don't know).

And of course still no answer to my very polite question. There was mention of Liquid downloading stats before and that was slowing the site. Could that have been a problem recently???

pauloaguia: 5 messages????? Some of my boards have up to 40 or more messages. You want me to reload 8 times just to read my favourite boards? I have 50 per page. I used to have 100 per page but I cut it in half due to the site being slow.

And as long as you and your brother understand "IT IS NOT A BK PROBLEM" It is nothing to do with BK and it must be your server! OK

Jim Dandy: Me too. I have been coming in here and only playing enough moves to save me from time out. I shut up over the last couple of days on boards because they take too long to load and the frustration is just not worth it. I got better things to do with my time than wait for a game to load. But I agreed to the challenge of a game with my opponent and don't want to let them down.

As for the future..............time will only tell!

Uninvited: No-one has posted because they are all finally resigned to crawling through their games at a snails pace. Why bother asking for something to be done when time and again the request is ignored. The site is still running slow for me and others I have spoken to as well but there seems absolutely no point in talking about it anymore.

I have one question for Fencer though. It was talked about a while ago that the site slowed down when Liquid was collecting data. Is there a possibility that this has happened again?

Thankyou Thankyou Thankyou. So many of you have stepped forward today and yesterday and let us know we are not the "certain user" minority.

I agree with the point about rewarding positive customers. I can understand why you would think that I was one of the more negative but I must tell you that it was Fencer himself who brought out the negativity. I (an Australian with English as her first and only language) saw what I thought was a very simple post about the site speed. It was responded to by the site owner in a negative fashion. Misery loves company.............well negativity breeds contempt. I had no idea there were other issues between the site owner and the poster of the message and the site owner chose to use this board to attack. And ever since then I have had a negative set against the site owner. I feel he is rude, arrogant and disrespectful and he agrees with me when he tells the whole site that one user deserves no respect. Her money earned her the simple respect of a paying customer. I would like a general apology from the site owner. We are not the trolls. You troll this site for "certain users" comments to respond to in a rude and disrespectful fashion.

I have tried to find supportive and positive ways to help fix the current problems but until the site owner admits that it is not just a bunch of whingers making up stuff to complain about then I don't think anything will be resolved.

or2ak.com: Thankyou. Another couple of helpful suggestions that we can try.

I have never heard of defragging RAM. Could you tell us computer dummies how to do it please?

Another thought I just had was to compare if the people who are running slow are using external styles. I am going to turn mine off to see if the tracert gets a more direct route without that.

And Fencer, a suggestion. Sticky posts on boards. So that when people come in the first thing they read is the helpful posts on clearing and speeding up the site. I know there are good ones from coan.net about stripping back your BK settings and Gordon Shumway posted about cache size and settings and this most recent one from or2ak is another good one. Other discussion boards have sticky posts. It may save you some grief.

or2ak.com: You don't see any new people complaining because everyone else has seen how you get treated if you say something on this board about the slowness and they don't want to risk raising the ire of the site owner.

And we keep coming back here because this used to be our favourite game site and we keep hoping in vain for a return to the days when it was good and fast and the site owner seemed like a nice guy. I can't play Frog Finder anywhere else and I just want the site to work so I can enjoy my favourite game.

And PS. Most of my complaints recently have been about the way people have been treated on this board. Not about the connectivity. That only comes into it because the abuse dished out is to people who mention the connectivity.

Off topic?

I fail to see how a discussion about the functionality of the site is off topic.

Brainking isn't running so well lately. It's Structure is failing in the eyes of quite a few members. It's Features are unviewable a lot of the time. We are refused access to it's features on a regular basis. And my personal view of it's features is that there are too many. It needs to be stripped back. Please do not feature any more red numbers until I can view the features that have been offered before and are hard to use because of lack of functionality.

And last but not least. From the tone of this board recently the Future of Brainking isn't looking so hot! I do believe the suggestion is that it's future will be a lot less solvent.

And I believe that discussion of moderators and global moderators comes under the heading of either Structure as they are an integral part of the smooth running of this site or they are a Feature of this site to be seen on every board.

So someone please tell me where the off topic is??????

Filip doesn't "Feed the Trolls" he is a troll himself. He never fails to troll through this site for "certain user" posts to respond to.

If the i brainking is taking so long to load doesn't that suggest that maybe there are too many images?

When people from both groups ie: "certain users" and "not you "  are saying the same thing then it would suggest that something needs to be checked somewhere and abuse of the "certain users" groups does not negate the fact that the "not you " group is having the same problems with this site.

General settings page. "Send me an occasional Brainking Newsletter" already checked by default.

Could either one of these possibly be "IT"?

Enough with breakdowns, shutdowns and slowdowns. I would love a return to the game site I joined a couple of years ago where it was fun to come and play instead of being weighted down with little red numbers and fancy crap I never imagined let alone thought I might want or need.

Snoopy: Please stop shouting.

This random team was found by accident when Mad Monkey was doing a completely different thing.

He started his team as an experiment to see what would happen.

Nirvana and I both found the concept interesting so we PM'd Mad Monkey to ask about it.

Mad Monkey and I set up a team to see if the challenge would even start yet. As you know by reading the original message that has caused all this drama, nothing has happened with that challenge as yet.

My message to Mad Monkey on the subject was to leave it and wait and see. All great things come from trial and error. If we have it ready to go we can test it and let Fencer know of any bugs etc so that he can release it to the paying members in good order and without a lot of bugs etc.

I'm sorry that you find our experiments so detrimental to the other f/s but I think releasing an untested, untried new thing on the site at the moment would be a lot more detrimental, not only to your f/s but also to the site as a whole. With the recent upset over BK being down quite a lot a new thing that doesn't work properly wouldn't go down very well with the frustrated paying customer.

rednaz23: Well I just counted while waiting for this page to load and I counted a full 6 seconds for that side to load. (It didn't need to load any red numbers but I do have 5 friends online at the moment.

It is frustrating because you can't start to work with the page until that column has loaded because it kicks the page sideways. Several times I have gotten ahead of the load and then it kicked on me and I clicked the wrong thing and had to go back and re-do what I was intending as well as fix the wrong thing I clicked! I have put the suggestion in this board but I will add a formal request in the Features board.

And just a note. The site has been working fine for me over the last few days.

Still annoyed about the delayed load on the right hand column after the last "upgrade" (I think the numbers after Friends Online was a nonsense piece of addition that no-one really needed but that is just my opinion)

But apart from that I have just managed to get through all of my games. I haven't seen a 0 in my game list for quite a while and it is rather pleasing to me!

I believe it would be possible to have the option to turn these things off because you can turn off "Tip of the Day" and "Tournament Tips" (which I have done) but we haven't been offered the option to turn off Friends Online or Favourite Boards or Fellowships. (I may be wrong because I am not a computer programmer)

I find that after this last addition that right hand column is taking much longer to load for me and it is also a distraction which I don't like.

If I had a choice I would turn off the lists for Friends Online and Fellowships and only have the Time and Date and my Favourite Boards displayed in the second column.

I can see if my friends are online by green dots on my main page or at the Friends page or by using the Filter and I can access all of my Fellowships in my Profile or on the Fellowships page. I don't feel the need for 4 different ways to access one item on this site.

Is there any way to turn off the little red numbers that have just been added to our friends online list? At a quick glance I go to click on them mistaking them for new messages in my favourite boards.

I thought the filter was fine to use if I wanted to see how many games I had with my friends. I really don't need those new little red numbers and would like to turn them off please.

If he posted a short succinct explanation that probably took him 30 seconds to compose and post then most people would be ok and he wouldn't have to deal with the so called "constant annoying complaints". And if there was the occasional complaint after his post I am sure others who had already read his explanation would update those who missed it therefore leaving him available to do what he needs to do.

And as for insults and attacks and non-destructive messages then you best aim your comments at one of the worst offenders. Someone comes in to offer a little positive feedback and he still can't resist a dig in response.
