i have Win98 SE and have not attempted to upgrade anything. It does not prevent me from playing games. I just wondered why it was happening and THANKS Gubbe...Im pleased Im not alone :)

I had the same problems a while back. It resulted when upgrading from Win98. All later versions do not give J2SE Java Plug-In as standard. You most likely only have a limited Java compatibility?

Try downloading the J2SE package form the SUN site!! Or Java Site:

Im using IE ..(because my wife doesnt allow me to download a later version of Netscape than 4.7 LOL)
and i get those "links" too Bernice. In your message i have "application servers" and in Aragon's is "play games" clickable/underlined. Have no idea why...but you're not alone :)

what exactly is the problem with you IE Bernice?? Is it not letting you play games properly??

Have a look in Tools, Internet Options & Advanced TAB Bernice, i think it will be one of the boxes you have clicked in there.(try restoring defaults)

It never happened to me [I use Netscape]. Probably one of IE "smart" features :-)

Further to our partial conversation during our game...I use IE....but in your post below you have the words " application servers " which are underlined in green on my screen and are a live link.

Chatty, I really wouldn't worry, everyone here who knows you knows that you wouldn't deliberately cheat in a game. I've probably made moves different to the first time, and I know many of my opponents have, just because we can't remember the first set of moves! I don't think that calls for any nastiness, a simple message saying "do you remember... such and such moves were made before"... and we'd probably remember!
Allowances have to be made for people who do not take games so seriously they remember every move made! :oD

Personally I couldn't even tell you which ones were set back for me? So likewise, if I move diferently I apologise in advance.

if i had remembered which games i had finished harley i would of resigned, i sent an apology to the person concerned and also resigned .. i have another one at least that i have to resign when they return it.. but the message i had from the opponent was downright rude in my way of thinking! and there was no need for it.. which is also why i made a public apology!

harley - that's fine for non-dice games, but in the gammon games the dice are different to the first time (I think!).

Chatty, this is something I've been a bit worried about, not making the same moves as before, and being thought of (if not outright accused) as a cheat. But everyone is in the same boat, I've resigned a few games I know I lost the first time round, and I have had people also resign games I won... but if I have forgotten a game or not made moves I should have, then I would ask my opponents to tell me rather than stew on it! Its a genuine mistake (my memory isn't great!) and given a nudge I'll make the 'right' moves!

Hmmm, since a database crash is very rare event [it never happened before and the site has been launched almost a year ago], I would not define any policy for such situation.

i will make this apology now.. as i have just been accused of cheating! by making a different move in a game from when the site was down..
I want to assure everyone, that i do not cheat! if i could remember my exact moves i would do them again! the game was a tourney game, it was a FUN??? tourney! and i get accused of cheating! the players rating was over 1000 higher than mine... so the person would of obviously won whatever...

anyway, again any apologies if i do this to anyone else, it is truly not intentional!

Fencer has done an excellent job with this site. He deserves our support, not ridicule, especially from non-paying pawns. Complaining isn't going to change anything...not for the better anyway. Let's weather this storm together. Anyone up for a hurricane party?.. Ö¿~

Buckwheat you can always go somewhere else and play. There will probably be a lot more problems before they get all the bugs worked out of the system. Thats expected with a new site trying to please everyone. Give Fencer the time and support he needs to make this the best site. Or keep complaining and watch him say it isn't worth it and shut it down completely.

and your object is not my object - I have fun by winning too.
but indeed buckwheat has only provisional ratings
- with mine it would take much more effort and be
even impossible by simply 'winning one game' ...
therefore restauring of my ratings is essential for me,
after they got messed up by server malfunctions ...
else it takes months to balance - a crash every few
weeks and your advice volatilizes nicely, MidMed ... :O

but for me, zero problemo to have a few days patience until
Fencer has worked through the really urgent problems here ... ~*~

And guess what buckwheat? Not everyone is overly worried about ratings etc. The object of the game is to HAVE FUN! So if you win, you win. If you were good enough to beat the person one time and it changes because of all this, invite them to another game and beat them again. That is unless you are afraid that you can't do it again.
