only someone who can accept the games can see them. You can't play against yourself, so you don't see them. log on as guest to see all games

also, I might add, that she has no idea what the word public means. If you think that being in a public park allows you to strip off all your clothes and run naked through just because it's "public", then you clearly just don't get it. Public means, both for BK and for parks etc., that anyone is allowed in, so long as they follow PUBLIC RULES as well. It's such a simple concept. This is not the land of do-as-you-please, public or private. Every place on this planet has rules, so I guess according to you, there are no public places on Earth?

That's enough, I can be very patient but nobody will call my site like this. You are banned from all boards until you learn how to behave.

25. Janeiro 2005, 10:28:01
Fencer
Oh dear. Some people just don't want to accept the simplest facts. Once again:

1) All non-fellowship boards are public.
2) Each board follows the general rules described in the User Agreement.
3) The main moderator of a board has a right to define additional rules for the board.
4) Who doesn't want to follow the rules, is logically banned.

That's how it works and that's how it will work because this is my site and I said so. Ridiculous notions about Civil Rights, Freedom and Democracy and similar things are pointless.

I disagree, they are open to the public making them public boards. But they still have rules to them, and by coming and playing on this site you agree to follow the rules of the site as per the user agreement.

that is fine.
However, he should not state that the boards are in ANY way 'PUBLIC' -- Otherwise, that can be construed as False Advertising and Fraud.

No the real issue here is that this is Fencers site to run how he choses. People are aloowed to post anything as long as it is within the rules of the site. You choose to not accept this fact.

Assunto: First of all...
It's NOBODY'S business who paid for my Membership, but me.

Secondly, the REAL issue it seems to be on this website is not necessarily the 'lyric thing', but moreover a larger issue -- Public vs. Private -- Suuurrre, anyone can post anything they want in a Private fellowship board. However, when it comes to Public boards, certainly Public Law has to come into play. The American Copyright Law is pretty much the World-standard, is it not?

If someone would like to argue that, I'd like to ask, what is the alternative to the US Library of Congress Copyright Office Laws?

And if we agree that this is a non-issue, then why all the hub-bub? Why can't people just enjoy the Public Boards without being harassed and censored when they do not 'spam', 'bait' or 'flame'?

25. Janeiro 2005, 09:42:28
redsales
EIHN, your post just goes to show you can't make everyone happy. Yes, people get censored and deleted here. Lots. The simple reason is that the discussion boards are popular and people express themselves a lot. One reason is that one of the most active members is a 9-year old girl who frequents the discussion boards. There are, however, private boards with no censorship WHATSOEVER. I have seen mods themselves have their posts deleted, so it doesn't appear that they are violating their own rules by showing preferential treatment to each other. And about song lyrics, it's certainly a grey issue. Whatever a US board of justice may have said is totally irrevelant in practical terms to this non-US site. If you start your own fellowship, you can pretty much post anything you want on there. So it is not arbitrary, as you put it, because ALL members are not allowed to post lyrics on the board you're referring to. Arbitrary implies that only certain members, without rhyme or reason, are being discriminated against. I do not see this happening. As a game site, song lyrics is your biggest beef?

I didn't pay for my own membership either. But after reading your post I guess you really can look a gift horse in the mouth!

No one's destroyed your civil rights or freedom. You have the freedom to leave. Private establishments can temporarily suspend certain civil rights, such as discrimination, as Hooters proved by winning their case against having to hire men as waiters/waitresses. But again, that has nothing to do with this site. It's Fencer's site, and he can do as he please. And I think he's done a great job.

However, there is one thing I would like to say - I feel sorry for the person who was so kind and paid for your membership because it was obviously a wrong thing. If this is your way how to show a gratitude, you should rather go elsewhere and never come back.

Hey Pawns,

Do you want to spend your money on this?...

Paying Membership to this site is not a good idea because:

The people who run this place (BrainKing.com) violate their own rules, i.e. They will harass you, censor you by deleting/hiding your posts, 'bait' you into arguments, and more or less commit transgressions of all sorts.

Also, there has recently been a controversy about posting your favorite song lyrics. The US Copyright Law states that it IS Legal to post lyrics/poems/jokes/stories on discussion boards -- If it is for non-profit and educational purposes only.

The User Agreement doesn't even mention this lyric posting 'rule'. But for some odd reason, some people on this website appoint themselves as 'Judge-Jury-God', and continue to inflict Arbitrary Aristocratic Censorship upon anyone who disagrees with them.
And even if you're a paying member, you'd better get used to this kind of treatment.

So, make sure to consider all of this before you spend your hard-earned bucks here, and watch out...

The Agenda should be 'Fair Use'. And if the so-called owner of this website chooses to ignore the 'Public' law, they should state it up front for ALL to see. To that, I whole-heartedly agree. (At the risk of rhyming )

When they publically state their intention of making this a 'Privately Owned', and therefore, a 'Privately Dictatorial' website -- Then I shall tell everyone to enjoy it as is.

Dear Brainking members,

Our webmaster Mr Fencer is planning to program shogi before the end of this year.

That programming is not an easy task, I am afraid. I think all of us interested in shogi could write a little word in order to boost his motivation (if necessary).

For those who ignore what is shogi, I suggest you take an eye on a Habu's interview. Mr Habu is one of the greatest shogi player of the moment and already an IM at chess!:

You will read that shogi is not a slow, snoothing game at all but a fierce race to mate your opponent.

1 Be3 Qa5 2.b4 Bxb4 and white can't take back with axb4 but now I see the forced win too, which is pretty: 3. Bxf7!! now if Ke7 or Kf8 or 0-0-0, 4. axb4 wins the Q or B next move, if Kxf7, 4. Qf3 Bf5 5. axb4 wins in the same fashion a move later, and if 3..Bxf7 we get the same theme with 4. Qf3 Of course 4..Nd7 allows the R to take N and 4..Ng8 or Nh7 allow the win with 5. axb4 where white wins Q or B next move (6).

Right nice puzzles you have here. I think I should give them a serious go if no one has claimed the prize by tomorrow. Time for bed now.
