Emne: Tournaments
... and speaking of Ladders, i would love to see other tournament options.

For example, a ladder system.

I would also love to see "bracket" type tournaments as an option, in addition to our round-robin type of tournaments. (For example a 4 person bracket - player 1 plays player 3, and player 2 plays player 4 - the winners of those 2 games then go on and play each other. (4,8,16,32, or 64 player tournaments - or with a little work, make it with "odd" amount of players, but give random people passes into the next round.)

Highlight what you want to print.

Go to File, Print (not the printer icon in the toolbard)

There you should see something about a "Print Range" - where you will have choices like "All", Pages X or X, or "Selection".

Selection will only print what you have highlighted.

(of course this is me writing if for a PC user using any major web browser - IE, Firefox, etc..)

Arctic Warrior: You could just highlight the area you want to print, then choose to print only the "selection" of what you selected, and not the default of "all"

ughaibu: Yes (1) need to automaticly put something from what fellowship it is from and (2) a way to opt out of the messages.

I'm in tons of fellowships, so I'm starting to get tons of messages that I don't want, but I really don't want to quit the whole fellowship just to get rid of the messages. :-(

Daniel Snyder: But lets say you moved a piece 2 turns ago, so I know a piece is there - but it is "black" again - Then the computer would let me jump the piece - and if the computer lets me jump a "black" square - then I know just from that where the pieces are.

It would not do nothing then make extra work to keep track of where the pieces are, and the notepad NEEDS to be moved to above the game before that happens.

But I don't see how Dark Halma would make anything different from regular Halma - other then more work to keep track since your opponent can still easly keep track of where your pieces are.

Emne: Dark Halma
Dark Halma - I don't see that working. (1) the game depends on where your opponenets pieces are (so you know if you can jump or not) and (2) if you can see the start & finish of each move, then it would be easy to look at past moves to know where every piece is.

Emne: Re: Cylinder Games
Bry: You know I thought about Cylinder 5-in-line, along with some other games having cylinder versions - but for 5-in-line, since the board is some-what big already, I don't see a cylinder version being much different then the current game.

After looking at all the games offered here now, Cylinder Line 4 and Cylinder Froglet are the 2 which I personally think will be different enough from the original to make the games worth making.

One of the things that was also suggested was that when someone does send a message to everyone, that it is also automaticly posted in the fellowships board - that way if someone does "opt out", they will not miss messages in case there is something important.

And option to opt out of individual fellowship messages is a good idea..... if it does not take too much extra work. (I'm up to over 20 messages in the past week which I don't consider important - that is messages which could have easly just have been posted on the fellowship board, and not put in everyone's message box.)

well I will post a new request.

I would like to have an option to opt-out of the "send to all members" messages that BIG BOSSES send out to all their members in the fellowship.

I mean for me, if a BIG BOSS needs to tell people of the fellowship something important, there is already a way to do that by posting in the fellowship message board, and will even give me a red (1) next to the fellowship name.

Since it was introduced, I have recieved 15+ "spam" messages - all which are nice messages from nice BIG BOSSES, but nothing important enough that could not have just been posted in the fellowship board itself.

Emne: Fellowship message to all
When a message is sent from a BIG BOSS of a fellowship to all members, can there be something automaticly added like "Message from Fellowship XXXX's BIG BOSS" - or something that way we can easly tell it's a message sent to everyone, and not a personal message just sent to 1 person.

I would like to see a message when kicked out of a fellowship - there are many on here with weak minds, and I've had people mad at me just because of what someone else told them - not what is the truth or anything I have ever talked to them about (all second hand gossip). I'm not sure if I had ever been kicked out of a fellowship because of this (have too many fellowships to keep track of), but would be nice to know if I had.

I would first like to see some "teens" actually request the board to know if it would even be used - other then a bunch of adults thinking that they would use their "own" board.

Emne: Re: Creating Tournaments
Summertop: There is for regular tournaments, so I'm guessing you are talking about Fellowship tournaments - correct?

If so, then I would agree - doesn't hurt me much since all my fellowship have at most 9 games - but for bigger fellowships, that would be nice.

Emne: Tournaments Page
One thing I love about the Ponds sign up page is that you can see how many are signed up from the main page.

Suggestion: Do the same on the tournaments page - that is for tournaments which only have 1 game type, show on the main page how many have signed up so far. For example, for tournaments like my 5 limit, players can see quickly if it's full or not.

Sumerian: To see the tournaments you have created, go to the main "Tournaments" page and click on the link near the top that says "Show tournaments created by me only" which will then show you all the tournaments you created. (Except for Fellowship tournaments which is not included in that list.)

http://brainking.com/game/Tournaments?trnst=10&tp=0&submit=Show&u=9133

It only shows 1 tournament you have created so far.

Emne: Re: Request: (Crazy) Dark Screen Chess
Seravajan: I know Fencer does not really like making variants of variants, but I would second a Crazy Dark Screen Chees variant. (Don't think we need both Screen & Crazy Screen dark variants - and since regular screen chess is the least popular game on the site, don't think we need a dark variant of the regular screen chess.)

Just thinking about the game, I would think white would have a good advantage - giving a lot more importance of placing the bishops & rooks to be able to view as much of the opponents opening as possible.

Anyway, I know Fencer is some-what against making variants of variants, but this would be fun - plus should not be too hard to program.

Well there are other scrabble type games which can be introduced as long as rules are some-what changed, and of course do not call it scrabble - but that would be a game which I would not care to see here just for the fact that it would be WAY to easy for someone to cheat, and WAY to hard to know if they are cheating... or just smart.

grenv: Well it allowed a person to harass me - trying to cause trouble for me by posting every single thing I did in an attempt to point out I was not playing his games very quickly. If I looked at someones profile, all of a sudden he made it the busness of everyones. If I stayed in a fellowship board too long, again he did everything he could to cause me trouble. It takes a lot for someone to get under my skin, but this person is one of a few on this site that has. If I was "reading a message", then "writing a message", and then he seen someone else doing the same - of corse this person felt it was everyone business.

I'm here to play board games - chat with friends - not have to deal with people who have nothing beter to do then to harrass me..... especially when there is an option to not have yourself show up as online, which would be a great additional feature for paid members! <HINT HINT>

Mousetrap: Just to let you know, you are not alone. I argued for awhile for the option to "hide self" so you don't show up on the online list and can't be followed -- but I was so out voted, I don't argue it anymore (even though I would still love to see a hiden mode.) People are hear to play board games, not play mind games with people who track what you do just to cause you trouble... and yes, that did happen to me.

nobleheart: I don't know, but I would LOVE to see games like battleboats Plus & Froglet put on a hexagon shaped board - it would give those games some cool new ways to play.

If you have a good idea for a game, go ahead and suggest it.

Emne: Re: Change the Pond game Rules ?
Bluefin: That would take out some of the fun if you take away the person who bid 0 and the next lowest.

Take for example, 3 players left - 1 player with 0, 1 player with 1,000, and the last player with 1,200.

How it is now, the players with 1,000 can either bid low to keep a lot of points, or bid high and try to get the 500 point bonus - and depending on what the person with 1,100 points does - it will be a good game for these 2 players. With your rules, the game would be over - player with 1,100 just has to bid 1,001 and win the game.

And idea if say more then 30 players are left, take out 2 lowest. 50 players, take out 3 lowest, etc... is an interesting idea - but most of the ponds now have around 20-30 players total, so probable not worth adding a rule like that for the few games which are going to have that many players.

Points to Pond Discussion board to talk about the ideas more if you want!

I have recieved messages whenever a tournament I created ends.

Now by just being in a tournament (not the creator), I do not think you get a message when it ends.

You can also view the Complete tournaments.

Brain1971: Actually I fought for the same autopass feature also for awhile, and it also took me awhile to get over it without, as you say (and I do some-what agree) a good answer as to why not. There are many things that I have suggested that does not get done, like being able to hide yourself from the online lists and such. I just don't harp on the issues over and over and over again because it does not help.

18. januar 2005, 19:12:21

For ponds, it is pretty easy to look at the main Ponds game and find the red "you are signed up" next to the tournament name to see how many you are signed up for.

To have the same, or something like that for regular tournaments would also be nice.

Autopass - it is a good feature request, but since it has already been discussed and rejected at the moment, then there is no reason to keep bringing it back up. This board is "Feature request", not "Harp on rejected feature request" board.

Emne: Re: Email all tournament participants
EdTrice: I see a good use for this, but I also see it as something that would get abused a lot - for example, I could see some people that will:

1) send message "Hey, tournament will start in 1 day"
2) then send message "Hey, tournament has now started"
3) etc... etc.. etc.. anyway, I know myself I would not want to get a lot of "junk" messages like that.

How hard would it be to have a search option in the bug tracker. With 200+ bug posts, it would be nice to have a search option.

13. januar 2005, 08:45:55

I would think it would be a little more tricky to put a "you are signed up" for the tournament page since some tournament listings will have multiply games - so if you are signed up for 1 game type of a tournament which offers 20 different tournaments, should it say you are signed up or not?

Modifisert av coan.net (10. januar 2005, 04:31:44)
First: Actually no one said anything about a grandfather clause but me - as a way to exaplin how it is a NEW rule that is now in place.

Second: If Fencer says that he wants everyone back below 2 fellowships, I will then get rid of 1 - no problems from me.

Third: Why was it done? (my guess) is that some people had started creating many fellowships, which could have been easily combined into 1 or 2. I believe it was done to stop the possible abuse that can happen. (There was one incedent where a person create 3-4 fellowship all for the same purpose, but was asked to get rid of some and they did - which is probable a reason.)

Walter - If you have more then 2 fellowships, you also are allowed to keep them for now - unless told otherwise - I have been given no extra deal or anything.

10. januar 2005, 04:16:15
coan.net
There is a new limit of 2 fellowship to be BIG BOSS (create/run). It's only for new fellowships. If a person already runs more then 2, that is allowed (grandfathered in), but will no longer be able to have more then 2.

There is still no limit for the number you can join.

ScarletRose - That is what I'm talking about also. Instead of just seeng "Full", my way we could see how close it is to being full also.

Purple - There is a limit of 2 fellowships now in effect - could this limit be causing your problems?

Pond Game: Or do this:

In the current "Minimum number of players" column, put "Min/Max players" - and then include the numbers like 16/20 - for 16 min, and then 20 max.

Then in the current "Maximum number of players", Put "Players signed so far"

That way you can see at a quick glace how many are currently signed up and without taking up any extra room.

Emne: Year End List
Year end List.

Here are some improvments / ideas for this site that I would love to see.

1) Different types of tournaments. Right now we have a type of round robin it looks like (I think that is what it is called) - Other types like a bracket system would be cool. (and of course the ladder system would be nice also)

2) Gammon double cube. (And also fix the couple of the minor rules that needs fixed).

3) Option to make tournament (games) that will accept NO vacations and/or NO weekends.

4) Fellowship "Little Bosses" - where they will have power to create fellowship tournaments, invite / accept players, change players status to make captains for teams, and write in the news. (Basicly all the power the BIG BOSS has EXCEPT they can not remove players from the fellowship and they can not delete the fellowship.)

5) MORE GAMES! More games are always good. Different types of games will always make this site beter, but variants of current games are also good. I will not go through the list of games to consider, but would point towards more gammon variants. Backgammon is the most popular game on the site, once the cube & minor rules are fixed (#2 above) - any more variants like HyperGammon and other variants will only bring more users to this site. (And some like HyperGammon should be easy to make with current rules & board & such)

6) An option to have personal notes ABOVE THE GAME BOARD! Where it is now is useless most of the time since I will make moves and hit submit without ever scrolling down far enough to see my own notes!

7) Espionage - have a list of captured pieces. If a piece is unknown, let there be a ? in the captured piece area. Of course if the notes field was above the board, this would not be AS important of a request (well for me at least - others will think differently)

8) Bigger message input boxes. A suggestion from long ago which I was just reminded of recently. Still a very good suggestion.

9) Make things a little easier to read about the games. For example:

  • This game is: RATED (or UNRATED)

Ok, that is all I can think of off the top of my head!

29. desember 2004, 17:27:24
coan.net
A discussion about possible rule changes are best in those boards.

Feature/rule change request are good here. But with a request like this, Fencer already knows about this request - so (in my opinion) the best thing to do now is try to continue the discussion in the game board - where Fencer will see the continue interest (and support) from many users - possible probmpting the request to be put on the list (or moved up the list.)

Stevie - I disagree with if you time out, you fall into the pond.

Since in this game you are not allowed to take vacation days, weekends, etc..... having it default to take your previous guess is a good option. Otherwise you will have a round start on Friday night after someone leave for the weekend - 2 days pass to Sunday night, round is over - Monday morning, the person is back and finds out they missed a whole round.

So I think it is a good rule to use previous bet.

15. desember 2004, 21:35:40
coan.net
Bry - Yes, I believe so. I think you will be able to see the persons last bet, how many points they have left, and what place they are in (person with highest points - 1st, etc....) [again, I think - will find out for sure once this round is complete]

2) I also agree that a message board to talk about the pond game would be good - it seems like a lot of people still have questions and such. The Members only board would probable be where we should take this discussion now - since it is a members only game.

15. desember 2004, 21:17:29
coan.net
If there are 2 players left, unless they start with the same exact money, then it would be very stupid for the player with the higher amount to bet exactly what the other player has - all he would have to do is bet 1 more point then what the opponenet has left, the opponenet will then drop in the pond and the player with the highest amount is the winner.

I like the rule if you time out, you use the same bet from last round. (just don't tell me who has and has not bet, other wise it would take too much away from the game)

15. desember 2004, 19:07:31
coan.net
Summertop - No, what I'm saying is if a person does not make a bet within the time limit, the system will AUTOMATICLY use the same bet as they used in the previous round.

So if a player bet 50 in round 1, and I see they have not bet yet for round 2 (and does not make a bet before round 2 time limit), it will automaticly bet the same as in round 1, which was 50.

So if I was able to see who has made a current bet, I would be able to get a pretty big advantage by just waiting until the very last minute to put my bet in - 1 point above the lowest known bid that I can see to guarentee that I will make it to the next round.

note: if a player times out before round 1, they are automaticly eliminated.

15. desember 2004, 18:32:36
coan.net
I did not see a way to change your entry, but would love to see that option added. I know I and many others will start to second guess our bids as the game(s) move on.
