It's likely because he has to store the move in a limited number of database columns - he just chose 9, apparantly.

I don't see any long multi-jumps starting in (or ending up in) the lower left corner...

Yes, but it could be theoretically possible to jump at least as many as 33 without being blocked (possibly even more).

My strategy is to try and get more points than my opponent :-)
