I have not had one problem at all today trying to access the site. I guess it must be the time you try to access it etc.. I keep the site open nearly 11 hours a day and every time I went to make a move today I had no problem. I do think there are a lot of contributing factors with regards to a lot of people not having as much access as others. Maybe ISP, time of day, Speed of server at the time, # of people already trying to access the site.

As I say for the first time in nearly 8 days today was the first day I didn't get the can't access site page.

I never could figure out how any one could make more then 200 or 300 moves a day. People must sit at their systems for 10 hours straight just clicking away.. As I say I have the site open all day an I go to it during breaks in work, afternoon breaks, lunch, after supper etc and have never exceeded 180 moves per day since I became a member. I thought I was THE true addict. How people can play more then 300+ a day is surely beyond me!

Yes, but the way it is currently set up, you cannot join a new tournament until all the games in your section finish. However, if you message Fencer (or maybe he'll read this), he can mark you as eliminated (as you have no chance to advance) and then you will be able to join another tournament.

A few weeks ago during a messy BK-day with timeouts for me,
I sent Fencer already a catalogue instead of a complaint ... hehehe !

Looking forward to visiting Praha, the first modern town in Europe
- and using the same currency that is accepted in Paris as well ...

the future will bring a new bb-net-axis

10-12 grands seems to be not too optimistic to get it into dry blankets.

e.g. Dell lowered the prices and the Euro is strong. *grin*

make it 15,000 and two twin-xeon2.8 are in reach ... :") ~*~

Uil: Just to make some estimation, $10000. That would be a good start. Maybe two machines could be purchased for this price, to make the site more stable [server cluster, load balancing, ...].

that's a capital ö - different code of course ...

and maybe you should get over torturing your brain
over the life other people have and put it to Sergeant Chat.
(it's degraded since long, to pre-emptively catch yet another post)

I appreciate that Fencer does not make fullmouth promises
(certainly a new server will cast new problems at the beginning)

The Czech Republic is not the center of europe.net
- bandwidth problems are likely to be expected for a while yet.

But about only 100 players simultaneous as edge of capacity
really have to be overcome if it is supposed to work out ~*~

Fencer, what I want to hear is an answer on my idea a few weeks ago of giving a life time rook membership to the one who can arrange a new server for free by contacting his connections!
For example the FIDE (World Chess Federation) or Mr. van Oostrum (sponsoring chess tournament for much more money) might be interested to do so, but i did not get any answer! Do you really want your new server?

on my key board it is ALT 665 Ö
and yesterday all day i kept getting
HTTP error...505 internal server error
i couldnt log on at all from midmorning till close of play at about 5.30pm
Why do people make suggestions and then get shot down because of it?
You either donate or you dont.....end of story...there is no need to "blow your own trumpet" over donating..
Get a life and get over it.
Fencer will no doubt get it sorted in time, and I know it is annoying, but there is nothing any of us can do...so lets just let him get on with it in peace :)

Can we get some number of actual users and the frequency of site access by users? This is not a hard thing to do since there is a last action value for each payer. That woudl give us some idea of what we are talkgin abotu in terms of necessary resources.

Also, Have Fencer and Liqui considered open-sourcing their code so that some of us who are programmers by trade could help out when we have time?

22. Juillet 2003, 22:40:49
Fencer
Okay, what do you want to hear? What happens if we collect the required money, buy a new server and some new problem occurs? Does the people want to be 100% sure that everything will be sorted out and no other problems can suddenly appear?
In order to be honest, I cannot promise anything and I don't want to force anybody to pay.
