avalanches keep certain pathways scoured of trees in some mountains.
allowing sun & space for certain platns to grow.When the snow melts high in the Cascades, the Avalanche Lilies come out. They will still your breathe away when you come upon an alpine meadow blanketed with them.

discovered this veggie this weekend,thanks to some japanese friends:

Chinese spinach = hiyu = hon-toi-moi = yin choy = een choy = amaranth = hsien tsai

Notes: This is similar to spinach, only it's prettier, tastier, and more nutritious.tastes maybe a litle like asparagus.Look for it in Asian markets.

there is a place in chinatown here..serves lychee nut ice cream.
also on st.clair,in the italian community..a place that makes fresh gelato in flavours:
cinnammon,hazelnut,chestnut,fig,ginger,pistacio..and many more.

ajtgirl: every year since I was 8 I have had a herb garden...learned from mr.cannon..who ran the pioneer herb garden at pioneer village in toronto.amateur botanist since before the south fell.I do find the unusual members of the botanic world interesting to learn about..not that I suggest we grow them...just trying to expand your green horizons a little.

in the forest near me...in a pile of leaves..is a slime mold..I have heard of them..I know they creep/move slowly...this one I pass every 3 days..can actually see it has moved...has anyone else ever seen one?
