Gr☺uch☺: 40-60 wpm is good. I think computers slow down speed because you are concentrating on watching the screen so much.

I found the guys at Circuit City were really helpful when I went in asking dumb questions. They must get them all the time from us older folks.

I can hardly wait. Hopefully, I can start doing some work at home now. I type 97 words a minute and have picked up Quickbooks at work when our accountant decided to quit a year ago.

It was a bad RAM that was causing the beeping. There was a sale on a Circuit City, and they were out of the one I needed. It will be in tomorrow, and I'll be back in business!

Thanks for everyone's help. It's probably an easy fix, I'm just not that familiar with the insides of these things. I'll work on it after we get my Mom home and when I have more time. *or take Groucho's 9 story solution!

I'm putting it back together and will give it one more try. My Mom has been very ill and I need to leave for the hospital soon.

Ok, I've figured out how to remove the three sticks.

Ok...I got Rose's picture. I have the three black boards that are on the right. The white things that are on the left in the picture, are going from left to right at the bottom of my board rather than up and down. There is one thing at the bottom right of mine that is white not black (no big deal). There is a flat wire thing connecting the black plastic thing with holes in it which is plugged in there. I've taken it off and reconnected it.

I can't get the pictures. On the bottom right corner there is a black stick thing with a flat gray series of wires connected. Is that it?

I don't see a black stick that looks like it has a magnet. Would it be on the board or someplace else?

Ok, I'll try that. It will take me a few minutes to unhook everything and do it.

It said on the first page BIO ext Version 2.0 if that helps any.

There isn't anything that says that. The only thing that has CPU in it says: CPU serial number.

It has Ambiois set up utilities....which one do I look under?

Marfitalu: I don't have any books on it. It was a computer that was given to me by someone that upgraded theirs. I was told it was working, and it seems to be...except for the beeping. The pc is several years old and has windows 98 and a pentium 3 processer. All of the lights and buttons seem to be working, I'm not having any trouble with windows or with accessing the web.

The beeping seems to be in two tones, both for the same amount of time. They are short beeps. It must be some sort of alarm, but I can't figure out what it is...or where to turn it off or reset it.

I don't know what the BIO is, but I do know that when the first screen comes up fast when you turn it on. It looks like it is checking the systems. It does say to push DEL to get information, which I'll try next time I have a few minutes.

At the moment, I'm on webtv. It's been a very busy week here, and I really haven't had much time to mess with it.

It's a series of beeps that don't stop.  I would guess the beeping why they gave it away, it's extremely annoying!  I opened it up again this morning to see if I could find another battery, but didn't.  I may have to scrap this thing.

BIG BAD WOLF: The fan seems to be working fine. It starts the beeping every time it starts up. Is there more than one battery in there?

I received it from a friend, so it isn't new. That's probably why they got rid of it and got a new one.

The computer comes on ok. I don't see any stuck keys.

Ok, I'm dumb at this stuff. Maybe someone can help me. I was just given a computer and the box keeps beeping at me. One of the guys at work said maybe it was a sign of a low battery. I opened the box, located one battery and changed it.

GRRR! The beeping is driving me nuts. Any suggestions on what it might be and how to eliminate it? Short beeps, constant!
