So, Fencer, can Global Mods be trusted to approve new members?

Subject: New users
I have a friend (Really, I do!) that is trying to register on BrainKing. His account is "waiting for approval". Is this something Fencer has to do or can the Globs do it?

My suggestion is to have an automated way...register, BK sends a confirmation email, user must respond to that email to finish registration.

Fencer: Oh, since I belong to a very limited number of fellowships...the new ad box forces me to have to scroll to see the last few fellowships. Previously, they all fit inside the visible window. That is why it is annoying.

Hmmm...how lazy are we when we complain about having to scroll a wheel on the mouse?

Fencer: well...personal peference. Since I am inundated with ads, every time I can't remove them, I get annoyed. However, it does violate your current membership features list. According to the list I should be able to "...hide advertisements...".

Will it stop me from visiting...No!
Will it stop me from renewing...No!
Will I continue to recommend BK...Yes!

Subject: Fellowship Membership list
Some fellowships have LOTS of members. Every once in a while, I wonder if a specific person is a member of the fellowship. Since they are in the order they joined, it is very difficult to search. It would be nice to either add a search feature or sort the list my membership level (Big boss, manager, member) then name.

alanback: Well, I don't see a link to turn it off. I would really like the ability to turn off these advertisements. Every other site lets paid members hide/get rid of advertisements. I would even be happy if I could place it somewhere else.

Brainking is a GREAT site (thanks Fencer). But there are two main issues I have with it.

First...Sabotage hasn't been finished! EVERY other game lets you see captured/lost pieces! This is crucial to Sabotage...

Second...Annoying adds ABOVE my fellowships list.

I like the moderators. Sometimes I feel they do too much, sometimes I feel they don't do enough. But, hey! can't expect perfection.

However, everytime (well, lots of times) when someone gets moderated we all have to listen to them whine on either the "Members Only", "general Chat", of "Brainking" board. MOST of us don't care!

Can there be a board put up to allow the moderated person to post their grievence (with details)? Make all the GLOBs moderators of that board. That way someone that feels slighted, has a place to go for an appeal. Those that don't want to see it don't need to. The GLOBs would still be able to moderate and or ban troublesome people from that board.

In the fellowships, where it shows the team members...

1. It would be nice to have a link by each team member's name to allow an easy way to send them a PM.

2. It would be nice to have another link that will send a PM to ALL team members.

That way the captain could ask the team questions about challenging another fellowship's team to a tournamnent. Individual players could announce to the team the status of their games.

Walter Montego: The second dice game you mentioned is basically, Farkel. Everyone has their own version, but the basic version uses 6 dice. It is a very fun game and would work well on this site. Instructions can be found on the internet. Just search for "Farkel Rules". Here is what I found: Basic Rules. I, personally, have my own "house" rules that I would be happy to share (ask for them in a PM) with Fencer.

On the tournaments page, could there be an indicator next to the tournaments that I have already signed up, for at least one game. I know I can go to "My Profile" to see a list of tournies I have signed up for, but it would be nice to see it on the Tournaments page. That way, when I want to sign ujp for more tournies, I can easily see which ones I have already joined.

Gambling? What's that? I live in Utah!

I don't know what the law is like everywhere else. but, believe it or not, gambling is NOT illegal in Utah. Gambling where the "house" takes a percentage of the winnings IS illegal. So, I can sit down with some friends of mine and play poker for real money and not be breaking the law. Now, if I was to run a "Poker Parlor" for some friends and keep a little of the winnings to "cover my costs", then I would be breaking the law.

Now, the disclaimer...this is how it was explained to me. I am not positive about the law. So, if you take my word for it and get BUSTED...You can't blame it on me.

p.s. It is un-realistic to expect money for winning...It is just too hard to stop cheaters. I certainly wouldn't put up money in hopes that everyone else was honest. Yeah! Right!

Subject: Espionage
Fencer, please don't get upset. I am just looking for an update on when the espionage games will be completed. Last I heard, you were still planning on adding a captured pieces list like every other game has. A new variation of froglet came out, so I was wondering...

I know there has been some debate as to "what" captured pieces to show. In the board game, you get to see the pieces. So, maybe you should just mirror that. However, anything is better than nothing.

Subject: Multi-point matches
I am playing some multi-point backgammon games. When I win, the "Match" isn't over because I haven't achieved the total number of points. In Backgammon, the game may be worth more than one point. On the message stating I won (or lost), it would be nice to also show the points break down...total points earned per player, points won on this game, and total points needed. I know you can get this info elsewhere, but it would be nice to have it on the message, also.

Subject: Re: I have mentioned this before..
A variation of loop chess wold probably work really well for 4 players. Instead of captured pieces going to your own "available pieces pool", they would go to your partner's pool. Typically, multi-player games are sequential. Player 1, then 2, then 3, then 4, etc. But with this variation, each individual game would go on as normal.

Subject: Main Page
I have the page layout to be columnar. On the left side, the links are broken out into four groups.
Group 1: seems to be mostly for games
Group 2: seems to be mostly User's info
Group 3: seems to be mostly Brainking info
Group 4: is just Logout

However, some links are out of place. This is more of a suggestion than a feature request, but could these groups of links be more strict as to what is there. For example, The user's "Settings" option makes more sense to be with all the other "User" links, while the "What's New" and "Discussion baords" links would be logically with all the other Barinking specific links.

Subject: System Wide Sorting
Could it be modified so that EVERY list is sorted. If there are multiple columns, allow each column to be sorted. Otherwise just sort by the Displayed text.

Example 1: When you go to a friend's profile to challenge them to a game, the dropdown list of games is sorted by a value (Game ID?) that is not seen. It would be VERY nice if it was sorted by the Games' Name.

Example 2: When you are creating a tournament, all of the game types are listed. Again, it appears that they are sorted by the Game Type's ID not the Name. Since only the Name is displayed, it gets cumbersome to select only the games you want.

As the number of games increases, this problem will only get worse.

Also, there are other lists that need sorting capabilites such "Friends Online" and "Fellowships", both on the main page. Curiously, "Favourite boards" appears to already be sorted.

Ah, but General Chat does NOT allow any and all discussions. I have seen many times where a moderator has asked for a topic to be discussed elsewhere. For example, I have seen where a topic has evolved to discussing a proposed feature when a mod came in and asked it to be continued on the feature board. So, the same would hold true for politics.

I just think that with how often (and how negative) political discussion come up, it would be nice to put it somewhere else. I also feel it should be a general board (not a fellowship).

Purple, no kidding. I think they would only have to make sure there is no foul language and the topics are political. Of course any blatant personal attacks would have to be deleted. But a certain amount of leeway would have to be given.

Too often the General Chat board is inundated with politics. Quite often political discussions turn into heated arguments. I know you (Fencer) are trying to limit the number of general message boards, but could we PLEASE have a "General Politics" board? I can't be the only one that is getting tired of people arguing politics (in the General Chat).

Subject: Re: invitations to only players with established BKR's
reza, Another real life reason for this feature...I started a chess tournament for those with a BRK less than 1900. Someone with a provisional rating that WAS less than 1900 joined. He now has a BKR over 2100. Obviously he is dominating us. If it was limited to established BKR's it would be a more even playing field.

Don't get me wrong...I am not complaining that he joined. He met the requirements at the time of joining. However, others in the tournament might resent the way it turned out.

Subject: New multiple boards in a fellowship
This is a cool feature. But I think some minor changes need to happen. In the list of fellowships on the main page, only new messages in the "Main" board trigger the little red number that you can click on. To see new messages for all boards in a fellowship, I have to add them all to my favorites. I think most people are like me and belong to many fellowships. That could be a LOT of favourite boards.

How about only listing the fellowship boards in the Favourite boards List, if there are new messages.
