OK... in my quick players club backgammon open 1
http://brainking.com/game/Tournaments?tri=46946

I was looking at the players who havent finished any games yet, and noticed that some have only made like 3 moves oin any one game so far, and there is one person who was playing along in a game until they find they will lose and now has refused to make their next turn.

know that nobody has broken the game paramaters, but you are breaking the spirit of the tournament. These are supposed to be fast games making many moves per day if they are waiting for your next move. know we are not always able to play super fast ( I was just away for the weekend myself) But if you are online I expect you to play your games in this tournament , and not to purposly stall.

If this continues you will be banned from any future tournaments of this type.

PLease dont ruin it for those of us who truely want a faster tournament. Thanks!

Some good points pgt....

something that hasnt been brought up, as far as I know, is that in a true emergency for anyone, any games that they do happen to time out in, because they couldnt get on to set a vacation or whatevr, I am sure these games can be restored. It is not something that happens so frequently that it would be a burden to restore those games at no penalty to anyone. And I am sure that any reasonable player would not have a problem waiting to play a move for someone who has had a true emergency, or having that game reinstated because it timed out for some emergency.

Czuch
Being on vacation is fine. I dont think anyone has a problem with that. It is using auto vacation to keep you from timing out on games that you do not want to play, even though you are on site, that upsets people.

I think if you are on site then auto vacation should not be activated for you that day. You should have to set a vacation day if you want to. Since those will be used up even if you decide to play and have nothing that is to time out on you.

So, it is the consensus that a person who signs up for a tournament with no intention of making timley moves or is planning on a recent vacation is a proper thing to do?

I guess its "play at your own risk" motto in here.

I dont think having a tournament with no vacation days allowed is a fair solution. Since most tournamnets last far too long to expect anyone to not be able to take a vacation. Ie if the tournament last a year, am I expected not to take a vacation in a years time?

I know it gets friustrating. But once you become a rook, you can start your own tournaments and keep out any player you wish. There is also a list of notorious slow players to avoid playing against if you are new, and dont know who some of these people are :)

Every person here has different needs and wants from somebody else. I dont need or want the ability to play 600 games (or1600 or whatever) But I like running fellowships. You may want to play 600 games, but dont care at all about discussion boards, or whether you can show a picture of yourself. Most of us already get more than we need when paying for a knight anyway.

Why should it be cheaper for you to play 600 games and not use fellowships, than it is for me to play 30 games and use fellowships?

One price one membership, and everyone can do whatever they want to do. Some people save 42 cents a day, other people pay an extra 42 cents a day, all the new people never know any different.

31. October 2004, 21:00:37

I see what you are saying Green.
You are either a pawn, with limited features. (which makes sense, to give people a chance to enjoy the site enough to determine if they want to join) Or a full membership, where you get all the benefits available (except access to the dice rolling codes) on the web site.

There wouldnt be another choice, so no one would feel like they only use such and such, like BBW said. It wouldnt even be an issue.

Maybe you could make the cost somewhere between what the two prices are right now, and Fencer would not lose any money?

This all started because there are not enough members to have good team tournaments. If you can just squeeze another 42 cents per day out of the rooks, you could give the knights a discount by 42 cents per day, and you would have plenty of members who are allowed to play in more than one tournament... without losing money.

I dont think it is that tough to see... If you are away from the site, automatic vacation days to prevent time out is fine. there should be no limit to it, except for the amount of vacation time you have left. If you have logged into the site within 24 hours (or some specific amount of time) of a game being timed out, the Automatic vacation should not be turned on for you.

I think we all agree, it should not be used to add time to a game when a person is available to make a move.

23. October 2004, 01:03:07
Czuch
One point not yet mentioned (I think) is that these people are not away with an emergency, they are here...

I like auto vacations too, for emergency use. But maybe it could be set to only work if a player is not on the site? If they are here and purposly not playing games that are due to time out, the auto vacation should not be kicked in. Personally, I dont think any vacation days should be valid if the person is on site. If you can accept a 5 day limit game, and you are able to get on site, you should have to play your games at that limit, period.

I never did say anything about you starting in all your fast start tournaments. I only wanted to point out that about half of your tournament win total is from tournaments where you only had to win 2 or 3 total games to win the tournament, and how you were heavily favored in many as well. I mean how impressive is it to win 2 out of 3 games against people rated under 1000?

I think it was nice of you to point out Mr loupcitys' milestone. It is a cool acheivement, that he didnt have to announce himself... maybe you could take a lesson from him?

Are you suggesting a limit on my freedom of speach BBW? Your mouth started it. You found it necessary to 'let it slip out' how many tournaments you have won. I felt it necessary to point out that all you had to do was win 2 out of 3 total games in some whole tournaments to get a win.... just to help put your staggering total in perspective for many who might be overly impressed.

Anywho, if you dont think I have a right to post my opinion on these boards, then put me on hide :)

Fast start Amazons #1 tounamnet won by BBW. He beat 3 other strong players whos combined average BKR is 1000... BBW current BKR 2060. Thats quite an impressive tournament win, must say.

Anywho, you got my point. Truce now.
Maybe next time BBW, you could wait for someone else to do your bragging for you :)

Didnt take long.... the first tournament I looked at that BBW won... only 4 persons, including BBW. BBW BKR... 2060. Other 3 players BKRs 1413,1478,1021. Average 1304.

Now I dont know if that represents most of the other 'five' person tournaments that he has won, but that doesnt sound to me like a list of "top players"

Subject: Re: IMCK
You are helping to make my point BBW.....

Out of your 94 (or however many) tournament wins 43 (or so, almost half) have come from the 113 five person tournaments you have joined, while the other half of your win total comes from the other 435 tournament s that you have entered.

Ih other words.... You win about 40% of the five person tournaments you enter, and only about 10% of all the rest. Its simply misleading to brag about having 94 tournament wins when half of them come from tournaments with only four other competitors. It would be curious to find out how many of those competitors you beat actually had a higher bkr than yourself? (I am obviously bored, maybe I will check it out myself)

Sorry mr loupcity... I didnt mean to be so vague. My post was not written to you or about you..... it was meant for BBW, who claims that he plays only for fun, but really seems obsessed with tooting his own horn about having made the most moves per day, or won the most tournaments, or having the highest bkr in the most games etc....
It just made me laugh when I read his post bragging about his tournament win total.

I agree Bumble that those 5 person tournaments are "legitimate" but they do not always attract the top players, as they are fast start with no bkr or other restrictions, therefore it depends who is online when they are created, and since BBW signs up when he creates them, there are only 4 other slots open, and it is simply the first 4 people who see them who get in.

Anywho, that is his right, and if thats what is fun to him, so be it. gain, I just think it is funny that on the one hand he says he plays tournaments for fun only, then on the other hand comes on bragging about his win total... is it all about winning or fun BBW? LMAO :)~

BBW answered you well, as usual, but it looks to me like you wanted to know how to start a tournament.....

You have to upgrade your membership to do that, as pawns cannot create their own tournaments. Also, you can only play in one tournament of any game type at one time as a pawn too.

As far as looking at past games is concerned... one can "set up" someone they suspect of using their past history to help them win games. You can make it look like an old predictable game, but drive them crazy tring to figure out whats wrong, and by the time they do, you have beaten them :)
But by playing predictably unpredictable, no one will know for sure what you are up to in a particular game until it is too late.

I have seen, on secure sites (more security conscience than Brainking, I think) like a poker room, where hackers can see the cards of their opponents.... I would bet that type of cheating is possible in brainking battleboats as well...

Problem with one day, even for us faster players, is time outs. I had a freak day last week and didnt access the web for over a day, and got timed out of 5 games in a 1 day tournament.

I mean, you can play 25 moves pergame per day, but if you miss one day, you are out.

How about 2 days then?

It would be nice to have some sort of overall game limit, or sometging of the like.....hopefully someday :)

Subject: Just curious...
The first team tournament went off at 3 days per move. The new ones are all at 5 days per move. Why the change? It seemed like the participation in the first one was high. I havent heard anyone talking about a massive amount of time outs from any games. # days seems like a good middle of the road time limit that should work for everyone. Or maybe 5 days and deactivate the weekends? As it is, a 5 day tournament game can last 420 days for a 30 move game, plus vacation time, and holidays.

I think that team tournaments should be under 1 year in length, for the whole tournament, not 1.15 years+ just for one game. Our memberships are only good for a year, we should be able to play a team tournament, and have it finish within a year.

I vote for 3 days team tournaments, that is plenty of time....

23. July 2004, 19:12:46
Czuch
Thanks Jason...

So, it seems, that weekends dont just keep you from timing out in a game, but actually stops the time from moving at all? For example, if there are 15 days left to time out, and you have a weekend, there is still 15 days left after the weekend?
