 Feature requests

Do you miss something on BrainKing.com and would you like to see it here? Post your request into this board!
If there is a more specific board for the request, (i.e. game rule changes etc) then it should be posted and discussed on that specific board.

For further information about Feature Requests, please visit this link on the Brainking.Info site : http://brainking.info/archives/20-About-feature-requests.html

LightningBolt: Look for any Stratego website through your favourite search engine and check out the Variations or Alternative Setups area. Not one of them will mention dropping the off-limits squares - the reason: it's an integral part of the game. Therefore, no point in not having them.

Subject: Missing line in "front door" page
Until recently, I could just see the "Login" button in the front page of BK. Now I see it clearly at the bottom of the screen. Does this mean that a line of text has been removed from the preceding areas? If yes, what got removed? And no, my resolution is still the same as before.

MidnightMcMedic: While the "Features in development" remain as stagnant as they have been, what's the point of discussing ANY feature requests?...

Fencer: Two feature questions for you, Filip:

- Is it possible to have some kind of update on the progress of the features in development as shown above?

- Is it possible to search for posts by sender as well as content?

Fencer: Whatever tickles their fancy - if they want to pay and be idiots, no problem :) Have you been able to see the reduction in this practice ever since the introduction of this measure?

And BTW, what if a deletion had to work from both sides in order to be valid? Then, everyone could have it and no idiots would force one-sided deletions. Unless there's some inherent necessity to have one-sided deletions...

Fencer: Let's also mention it used to be available to all members before. Probably too much for the server then.

playBunny: Sorry, I meant that the other way around - meaning that Fencer's NORMAL behaviour is "one-click" :)

Subject: Re: Message Box
playBunny: I suspsect that Fencer's approach with options like this is "one-click", so selecting from 2 options and clicking "OK" or something would be non-optimal :)

AbigailII: Please do not assume that all jobs require that you work all the time - mine doesn't. Secondly, for security purposes, most firewalls block any and all non-HTTP-related connections, regardless where they are initiated, therefore that point is moot as well.

Subject: Re: Who's Fischer?
AbigailII: Yes, but if you are behind a firewall, like most corporate workers lucky enough to have an Internet connection in the first place, canNOT use most live sites... Why do you think I come here and not at my former field of glory, FIBS? :) (used to be near the top of the rankings there in the early '90s)

BIG BAD WOLF: Oh yes, fully aware of it. I was just contributing into the ideas of others, just in case any other mathematically-advanced brains in here, like ChessMaster1000 ;) would recognise something that the Fischer clock wouldn't somehow cover...

Subject: Re: More time controls
Hrqls: Maybe we can say that, if you have X hours to move, if your opponent moves before the X/2 first hours, the clock is not reset, otherwise it is not... just an idea.

Subject: Re: More time controls
Hrqls: If he does not move within the allotted time, YOU win,, THEY lose. When each player moves, the clock is reset to the time limit set for the N moves.

Subject: Re: More time controls
Hrqls: From what I understood, it's as simple as replacing N in the concept of "next N moves to be made within X hours" from 1 to >1.

Subject: Re:
grenv: I suppose this could be a rare exception to the "no deletion" rule we so painstakingly discussed earlier, as it shouldn't be a problem removing all offending games between two obviously cheating users. This way, wrongfully attained high ratings wouldn't stay there and become a "posthumous taunt" by the cheaters...

Subject: Re: membership delete button
BIG BAD WOLF: I do believe this impossibility of complete account removal should be noted in the BK User Agreement/Privacy Policy, because, as we all saw, a simple and legitimate request could not be honoured due to lack of proper documentation... No offence, Fencer, but if you cannot do something, like removing an account on request due to database management consequences, prospective or existing users should be made aware of it, right?

Subject: Re: certain mods then
Fencer: It was the suggestion that others might think of... that their paid membership could EVER buy numbers 1 and 2... Your reply, I assume, means it's not to happen :) As opposed to other sites that bend over backwards, making one not even want to consider a free membership there...

Subject: Re: certain mods then
Fencer: It was slightly aimed at you as well :> but you're the boss here, so...

I used to write policies for IRC networks, so it's quite easy to put such things in words, and with users like dano around, it's very easy to find material ;)

danoschek:
1. Paying for a membership doesn't buy the right that your suggestions be automatically implemented, or even considered, as you may have already noticed...
2. Paying for a membership certainly does not buy you the right to rant and rave when your voice is lost in the desert...
3. Paying for a membership DOES give you the capability to hide other people's opinions, although you might find yourself very much by yourself in most DBs :)

Is it possible, now that we have started the new "decade" :) of languages, to convert the links into a nice drop-down list?

How about creating the two remaining versions of Greek backgammon? I refer to Plakoto and Fevga, as described at http://www.bkgm.com/rgb/rgb.cgi?view+344
