I dont beleive in being anxious about playing fast.
after all ,we are here for fun & recreation.
but I also see no reason for games to last longer than a hollywood marriage.

Subject: re game times
maybe this could help
you could specify in your preferences a range re how fast you like to play.
if some one invites you,the could get an automatic message saying "whatsisname likes to play with a gamretime of from X to Y.would you like to alter your invite?"

AbigailII: I think multi player games & many 2 player games that by their nature have many moves could/should be encouraging to move along a little faster by:
1-eliminating the possiblity of a game time of more than 10 days.
2-eliminating the possiblity of a game bonus time to longer than 10 hours per move.
3-allowing really fast games but the time out penalty could be loss of turn instead of loss of game(optional)

Subject: fencer I have an idea!!!
I used to be a purist..loved only backgammon & chess,frowned on "variations".
but I had a change of heart...love them now.they keep the game fresh..open the mind up to alternative strategy.
anyway,I have always loved multi player games.
I have thought of an easy way to make "backgammon for 4 players".
of course use 4 different colours.
adapt this to either backgammon or crowded backgammon.
as for play.player one takes a turn,then player 2,then 3 ,then 4.
---
or keep 2 colours & play as partners.
what ye think?

Hrqls: their would be a big benefit to penalizing or banning cheaters.
we could depend on the ratings then to be realistic.
also a stern policy on cheating would be a good deterant for such behavior.

playBunny: if pawns were allowed to edit thier own posts.then we pawns could edit our own mistakes.do not moda have enough to do?

cheating to artificially create a high rating..is easily transparent to most players.

gekrompen hoofd: especially in today's fast paced society..the media for example bombards kids from infancy..not always with positive, healthy behavior patterns.
it is hard for parents to compete as they try to raise there kids descently.

working against this is the system making most 2 parent families work long hours to survive.so kids are raised up as "latch key kids"..whose only role models are rap-gangsta-drug-stars.

also working against this is parents who arent actively involved with their kids as much as they could be.

I think it is a great idea to have a few "subject related links" posted above the books board.
I think it would be a good suggestion for each board to have such a related links list.
-------
I think a board for "art & culture" would be a good suggestion.I could consider co-moderating.but I think before I speak,it would be wise to read what it means to be a moderator.
------
considering current events world wide.
maybe a board for "enviroment & world watch issues" might be of interest.
but I would hope it wouldnt to too contraversal.and if it became so,could people debate & even agree to disagree without it decaying into a rant war?

Subject: Re: Froglet Game Variant Suggestions
BIG BAD WOLF: wolfy,good ideas..
I have another idea to add to your variant suggestions.
we could for this & other games consider multi-player games that allow for more than 2 opponents and of course more than 2 colours per game.
this IS a lot of fun from the veiwpoint of strategy & from the viewpoint of good player interface.
but true, the mathemtatics is more complex to program.
I'd love to here if anyone else is in favour of multi player games?

I thought of this chess game variation "voodoo chess".
very simple change from regular chess.when a pawn takes a piece.the pawn then turns into a horse piece.
this sounds strange, but we have tried it here, several games.
it does develop a lot of strategy.
also,it seems no 2 games are ever the same.
what do you think?

BuilderQ: is this a good or a weird idea.
I really hate to label people, but to solve a few problems.we could colour code members login names.
maybe a color to designate someone under 16.
as a visual reminder that we should remember to keep it clean,a youth is present.
also we could,I stress only for the purpose of discouraging people who argue, bait or harass repeatedly.decide that if they get X number of complaints, their login name colour goes red for a designated amount of time.

Subject: my opinion on cheating in online games.
my opinion on cheating:
I KNOW,as I'm sure that anyone with even moderate intelligence & a sinew of moral fiber knows.that cheating is a hollow victory.used a computer as a player(as some sites do)should nor be allowed.it is the act of someone emotionally immature or troubled who has a need to win at all costs.it is usually a sign of something lacking in character.or an emotional problem.
what I know about cheating:
I heard about cheating programs a while ago,did I few searches.there are cheating programs for just about any game you can think of,if one needs them.
their are also in development programs (some beta versions are in use on a few sites)that detect cheating programs being used on a computer.
what bugs me about the subject:
I play scrabble english, french & am learning dutch.
I dont usually "blow my own horn",but I have played a lot,WITHOUT needing to cheat, and am a reasonably good player.what bugs me is that if you beat someone good, especially if you beat someone with a really sad vocabulary.immediately, they are convinced that you must be cheating.
