Just in case you were wondering brainbook.com is already taken but brainfacebook.com and facebrainbook.com are still available.

Jim Dandy:Yeah, I still see slowness, but I play most of my games in the evening and the site seems much more responsive.  I just played ~50 games in 20 minutes.  Some things that have helped are the new 'light mode' plus you can turn off both left and right side bars.  This allows you concentrate on your games and just see your fellowships and gunk when you go to the main page.  For me right now, it is livable but there clearly are still site/network issues holding things up.

Two whole days without an off topic post.  Thanks for breaking the silence Uninvited.  Lets see how many more days we can go without any off topic posts.

Puckish: Yeah, I agree. However, unless someone has moved, this should not affect any one players historical stats.

Antje: Yeah, I've always been amazed at how many move some people can do...so, I've come to recognize many of the names. I haven't seen many of them there recently.

It seems entirely possible there is some artificial limit to the amount of bandwidth the site is allowed to send out of the country. Maybe a major internet pipe from the country has gone down??

I thought with all this discusion of the site speed, I would take a look at the top movers list.

Top Movers

Seems players in the Czech Republic have a bit of an advantage here.  Could it be that those players have better site speed/reliablility?

Okay, so, my attempt at humour is thwarted.  I just goes to show you that there are people out there that just want to complain.  Mods or otherwise.

1) The site is slow.
2) The posts are off topic.
3) The site owner is rude.
4) The customers are rude.
5) You have a bad computer.
6) You have a bad internet connection.

Some of these are true - for someone, sometimes.  This is a horrible forum for consensus.

Personally, I find it to be entertainment.  I now spend more time reading this board than I do playing games (apologies to my opponents).  Generally, I don't come here for chit chat.  You won't find my name on the general chat board.  I am interested in the operation of the site and the opinions, good or bad, of its users.  All this talk of off topic posts makes _no_ sense.  Posts may be repetitive, but they are on topic.

I agree, there are some people here with a louder voice than others, and some that don't speak up at all.  Others don't even bother.  Sound a bit like most companies I've worked for.  For what it is worth, I think everyone should just take a step back, take a nice cleansing breath and then have some fun.  Make the best of it.

I'd like to make an off topic post.  Is this the place to post an off topic post?  If this isn't the place for posting an off topic post then can someone who regularly posts off topic posts to the place where you can post off topic posts please let me know where I can post my off topic post?

And, please accept my apology for posting an off topic post about posting an off topic post.  I realize that it is off topic.

Now, since brainking is slow today...I'm off to

http://www.subservientchicken.com

You'll find me there.

Subject: Re: The site is NOT working (again) for me tonight.
alanback: I find the site goes down on a regular basis.  I'm not a hard core player very often so I just go do something else for a couple of hours and usually it comes back.  I noticed this for a while before the move and now again after the move so...whatever.

There are definately still DNS problems.  Mighty Orion, I posted a while back how you get around the problems.  Please take a look.  Also, I tried fencer's suggestion about connecting via brainking.cz and that seemed to work however, I don't know if that will fix your image problems.

Check my post and try out that solution.  It is up to us to help each other connect.  If more people start getting pissed off, they'll all cancel their subscriptions and Fencer et. al. will go broke.  Then we will have no site!  Can't have that.

Fencer, you really should re issue your DNS update commands.  Clearly something went wrong somewhere and I don't think it is going to fix itself.

coan.net: I had noticed the missing images too but I failed to make the connection.  I haven't cleared my cache in a while so I suspect most game images are in my cache which is perhaps why I'm doing okay.  This is definately a DNS problem.  I'm honestly not sure who is actually responsible for fixing these kinds of problems.  I don't know a lot about how you register new IP addresses.

Anyway, I think lmhosts might be a UNIX/LINUX thing.  Windows has a "hosts" file in the windows directory.  Mine is
c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
Open the hosts file in notepad and add these following lines:

89.187.130.22   brainking.com
89.187.130.22   www.brainking.com
89.187.130.20   img.brainking.com

These will help...I suspect linux is similar.  I know nothing about MAC.  Someone else will have to help out here.

As a business owner I would think Fencer would be all over this.  If he is not, it's his business, he'll be the loser.  I suspect however, he may be busy working on it.

James

alanback: Yeah, I have had these problems too. But this is different. The site is up, I can access with the IP address. I just can't resolve brainking.com. Did the IP address change during the recent maintenance. Perhaps not all DNS servers were correctly updated with change.

Subject: DNS problems??
Many of my available DNS servers have had periodic trouble resolving brainking.com.  The problem seems intermittent and worse on some servers than on others.  (for examples I have had only a few issues with my DNS providers at the office but my home ISP can almost never resolve it).

I have also noticed that many of my regular reliable opponents have started to time out which makes me wonder if they are having trouble accessing the site too.  (I'm sure to anyone that doesn't know otherwise, it would appear that the site is down and they may think timeouts have been suspended)

Currently I am accessing the site directly via the server ip address. (89.187.130.22)

Anyone else having this problem?

James
