chessmec: is my idea of "atomic chess pro" silly or not? what do you think?

No, it's not silly but "Atomic-Pro" would not be so good game as Atomic Chess......It would be much slower.......

grenv: I was trying to say that it is extremely well balanced as it is when played well.

With a first thought Atomic Chess seems a game that white has a confortable advantage.....
Yet, with a more deep analysis it seems that black is not in a so bad shape at all and that actually chances for both white-black are even........
But finally with an even deeper analysis, there is one opening line that leads to a VERY VERY difficult position for black to defend. Until now i haven't found any defense for black and all variation loses (i will not give the line yet) but i'm trying......

White: King + Rook
Black: King

White's plan:
  • Keep the Rook 2 files and 2 ranks away from the King in each move, having in mind the next move of black too.
  • Keep the King 2 files and 2 ranks and 2 diagonal squares away from the King in each move, having in mind the next move of black too.

    Black's plan:
  • Keep the King 2 files and 2 ranks and 2 diagonal squares away from the King in each move, having in mind the next move(s) of white too.

    Why it's so difficult...........?
Sorry if by saying the words "idiot and inexperienced", someone felt insulted or whatever.........As always my absolute language was misunderstood........I just meant that it's so easy to play for both sides without even have to think........Your other conclusions for my statements are not mine.........!

    Fungame:
There is nothing idiotic if someone is not master in some game, neither the opposite, if someone is able to play some games at higher level.
And tell me where i have written such a thing.....?

And Pedro Martínez: you also remind me someone called Martinez from Gothic Chess board with some statements that i didn't agree at all. I don't remember the name.......
(Just kidding, although you will take it differently, i bet.....!)

These traps are obvious even for an idiot-inexperienced player so if we have a KRK Anti-Chess endgame it's toooooo easy to avoid them for both sides and have a draw.........

I don't think this is necessary at FRC.......But perhaps it would be a good idea.....!

In this way it would make games of the tournament more interesting, but in the current way it would help to see who plays better the current position or for FRC-Chess interested players(like me) it would help to generate some ideas about various setups......And as i've said in the current way there is no luck factor at all.........

Just remove black's Queen and perhaps we have a game.......Or give white 3 Maharajah's (2 Maharajah's loses too).........
But please remove the current ridiculous game. It's a shame that such game exist here, while other much better aren't........

    Konu: Re: proposal
redsales: i totally agree, but at least it would be closer than now!

No. It would be the same. The following moves for black destroy both games. The current one, and your suggestion......

    1. Knight b8 - c6
    2. Pawn d7 - d5
    3. Queen d8 - d6
    4. Pawn e7 - e5
    5. Knight g8 - f6
    6. Pawn a7 - a5
    7. Rook a8 - a6
    8. Rook a6 - b6
    9. Bishop c8 - g4
    10. Pawn e5 - e4
    11. Queen d6 - e5
    12. Bishop f8 - e7
    13. 0-0
    14. Rook b6 - b2
    15. Rook f8 - a8
    16. Rook a8 - a6
    17. Rook a6 - b6
    18. Rook b6 - b3
    19. Pawn h7 - h5
    20. Pawn g7 - g5
    21. Knight f6 - h7
    22. Queen e5 - d4

Now if the Maharajah is on a1 then:
    23. Rook b2 - b1
    24. Rook b3 - b2 MATE#

    Else:
    23. Queen d4 - d1 MATE#

Then games would last 200 moves to mate the King and that's not the main bad thing. The most ugly will be that 99% of games will be drawn!
Even if you give at the King just the Knight moves, the mate will be damn difficult even with a Queen...........

Konu: ONE YEAR Rook Membership Contest......! Part-II
Well since last time nobody succedded, i will increase the prize..... So here is your chance to win a one year membership here, with a lot of effort of course........

The first one who will post at
Gothic Chess discussion board and only there, the correct answers to the above 4 questions, will win a 1 year Rook membership...........

    The 4 questions are here.

***If there are no answers or any correct one until 10/02/2005, there will be no winner.......
***If someone posts more than 1 answer, then the accepted one, will be ONLY his last one. That means even if someone posts a correct answer before everyone, but posts another one later, not correct this time, he would not win as the accepted answer will be the last one. Even if anyone else hasn't answered correctly.......
***In the extremely rare case when there will be 2 or more correct answers at the exactly same time, the winner will be the one whose post will appear first at the Gothic Chess discussion board.
***I will post if there is a winner or not at 10/02/2005.

Yes and in fact it's very easy to mate. Yesterday, it was 3:00 at midnight when i posted that it's a draw so i didn't know what i was talking about obviously, now that i see it again........

A question/clarification: If a King is threatened by a piece, then it can castle or not? As there is no check i assume it can right......?

Oh, a black Queen! Yeah, now that makes sense. Then white would be stalemated..........

I have to add that the previous Qb2 move of black wasn't a bad one, since the game was draw anyway......

    >stalemate is possible, though unlikely. Eg white king on b2, Black king on a2, queen on b1, another queen somewhere. White to move, if white moves to a1 and black moves the other queen to b2, white is stalemated. Black would have to be pretty dense to do that though!

    I don't understand. Why white "can't physically move..!" ?
    For example Qb1-g1. Why not........?????

I read all rules before playing a game and my natural ability of instantly finding logical holes in every statement, says for this case that there is not stalemate in this variation as described in Brainking rules......Am i wrong.....?

With stalemate i don't mean there is no draw of course.
Stalemate definition: Stalemate is a situation that a player has no legal moves and he is not in check, and as in this game there is no check, stalemate is a situation that a player has no legal moves.

<>It says in the rules: "...the game is finished if the Maharajah or the king is in a checkmate, >one player is in a stalemate, etc."

OK the game is finished but how??? With what result? Your copied text is incomplete and incapable of explaining the compete rules. You should have added:

The game is finished WITH THE SAME RESULT AS IN CHESS if the Maharajah or the king is in a checkmate, one player is in a stalemate, etc.

This game is too easy to play and win with black.

When i first saw the game i thought it would be fun to play, but very soon i realised that it is a black wins game. Then it came the challenge to find a line for black that wins whatever white plays. And i discovered the forced mate in 24, with 22 moves for black that are playable no matter what white will play. Now it's a challenge to find a line, that will contain moves that would lead to a forced mate and that it would be playable no matter what white plays. And if possible to be a mate in 24 or less. Can anyone find such a line?

If you add one more Maharajah piece then again i think it's a black wins game. I will try to prove it some time. But what about 3 Maharajah's? Do you think is this game balanced? I don't think that and i found that if black don't play some moves it is a mate in 8. So actually it must be a white wins game.

"Besides, it seems to me that you're assuming best play. Which, as you yourself know, doesn't happen all that often in live-fire games anyway. "

I have memorized the following (easy to remember)moves i found, that assure a 100% win for black and they are playable WHATEVER MOVES WHITE PLAYS:
So it's easy for someone to play live-games perfectly and instantly with black.

Well i don't think you understood what was my point, correctly. I don't say something is not fair, i only say what would happen if all games would end with a Black win***? Who would be the winner? The tournament in a case of a tiebrake would never stop as all players would win with black and lose with white.

*** = It's not a hypothetical question, like what would happen if black players will win all games at Chess, since Chess is not solved but Maharajah is a Black-win game 100%.

    Konu: Just a question.
I would like to join on this tournament but since Maharajah is a Black wins game, it is pointless.
So what would happen if all games would end with a Black win? Who would be the winner? A tiebreak? But then again if Black players would continue to win then what would happen?

    Konu: For WhisperzQ and other.........
I'm really sorry for made you feel like this. I didn't make it deliberately.
But you are wrong on this. Maharajah Chess is an available game to play and the fact that i know to play it perfect, it's not something unsportsman and unfair. For example at Chess. I'm really good there. If someone is bad at chess, then is it unfair to challenge him? Of course not. Just like this. I play this game perfect after studying it a little and i don't find it unfair to play with Black pieces with someone if he wants to. I don't tell him that i found a perfect line to win, but i don't find it unfair, because he should use his own brain to find out and reject my offer.
So please change your mind and remove me from your enemies list and accept 2 games of Gothic Chess or Backgammon as my purpose was misunderstood by you.
Well by giving my "perfect" line of Maharajah Chess i know that none will accept any offer again, but i'm doing this to prove you that i'm not someone bad and evil :

The following moves are playable by Black no matter what White Maharajah plays, except the last move i have noted:

    1. Knight b8 - c6
    2. Pawn d7 - d5
    3. Queen d8 - d6
    4. Pawn e7 - e5
    5. Knight g8 - f6
    6. Pawn a7 - a5
    7. Rook a8 - a6
    8. Rook a6 - b6
    9. Bishop c8 - g4
    10. Pawn e5 - e4
    11. Queen d6 - e5
    12. Bishop f8 - e7
    13. 0-0
    14. Rook b6 - b2
    15. Rook f8 - a8
    16. Rook a8 - a6
    17. Rook a6 - b6
    18. Rook b6 - b3
    19. Pawn h7 - h5
    20. Pawn g7 - g5
    21. Knight f6 - h7
    22. Queen e5 - d4

Now if the Maharajah is on a1 then:
    23. Rook b2 - b1
    24. Rook b3 - b2 MATE#

    Else:
    23. Queen d4 - d1 MATE#
