getting to 5 points means the match is won,

Why when playing a 9 games match (This match is defined by the chosen number of games only. When all games are finished, the match is completed and the player with more points wins (win - 1 point, draw - 1/2 point, loss - 0 points)) and getting to 5 points do the remaining games have to be played? The result is already known and the rating only calculated on the overall outcome (win/draw/loss) playing these other games is pointless.
