The fastest way to create graphics for checkers is to use an appropriate true type font. You don't need to be an artist to do this.

For example, this site has a font for checkers (costs 49$), as well as for other games like cards, shogi and chinese chess: http://www.partae.com/fonts/index.html

There could also exists free fonts with checker graphics somewhere else.
