No computer-based translators are worth relying upon. I guarantee you that. And I believe everyone who knows more that one foreign language and has some experience with on-line translators would also.

grenv: Just a minor note: It's the British English that is used by overwhelming majority of Czech people speaking English. At school, teachers had always been telling me that my Englsh was "rubbish". But I have never stopped being a black sheep of the Czech society and never quit using the American English. Therefore, it really surprises me that BK uses the term "vacation".

Sorry for an off-topic post.

playBunny:

Pedro, Rex Nihilo: So someone gets a huge rating with their first few games. That's great. I'd target them as ripe for plucking. [] A few games with them and I've either found a new opponent to play or I've earned a nice handful of points for myself and sent them on the way down to their natural level. If it's cheating it's certainly a most unsuccessful form. High rated players should welcome such people with open arms, lol. []

It's very successful form, as you can see on these examples:
Molatov and his Backgammon rating

TOPGUN and his Extinction Chess and Loop Chess ratings

I don't want to have more people like this on BK. And if you allowed reseting BKRs, I'm sure there would be many of them.

Pedro: The other three opponent's rating don't matter? My understanding is that it's the average of those four games, so I rather think they'd matter as much as the first.

The other three games will affect your rating, of course, but are not relevant for the fact whether you will get such an extremely high BKR. That's only the first game. If you have no BKR and play four games with the same opponent with a BKR of, say, 2300, and you win the first game and lose the following three, your prov. rating would be 2500+. But if you lose the first and win the other three games, your BKR will not be that high. I bet it would even be under 2000.

Modificado por Pedro Martínez (15. Agosto 2005, 02:33:15)
playBunny: If you had the chance to reset your BKR, it would be relatively easy to get an extremely high rating. All you would have to do is to win over someone with rating over 2000 or similarly high rating, win three more {your opponents' ratings don't matter in these three games) and you'll get a BKR somewhere around 2500 and higher...

Then choose any pond from the list (I recommend some of those that are at the top of that list). On the page with the pond, you can see how the game looks like and how people bet in individual rounds.

My feature request is to either get rid of or alter the special rating formula (based on first 8 games).

Pedro Martínez
I find it unbelievable that herman1 has won only 1 game of checkers over a guy with rating in 2100s but has a higher BKR than Goldarrows, i.e. 2318. I would like to see the BKR formula changed in this respect.

If it was up to me, I would leave it the way it is now. Cheaters will always find a way. They can create as many nicks as they want. Like I said, I would leave the BKR formula unchanged and adhere to the current rules set in the User Agreement, i.e. ban those who were 'proven' to be cheating.

After expiry of this period, personal data may be preserved only for statistical, scientific and archival purposes. When using personal data for these purposes, it is necessary to respect the right to protection of private and personal life of the data subject from unauthorised interference.

Section 5, Paragraph 4:
Without the consent of the data subject, the personal data may be preserved for statistical or scientific purposes. When using personal data for these purposes, it is necessary to make personal data anonymous as soon as possible. However, it is necessary to provide the required level of security according to Paragraph 13.

Left in disgust: Fencer is required by law (under the Czech Republich Personal Data Protection Act of April 4, 2000) to provide a method to delete the account. If a database holds personal information including published words (anything written in public on a site like this is recognised as 'published') they may only hold that information with the consent of the author. I have withdrawn my consent. Therefore, my account must be deleted. This is pretty standard in International laws regarding Data Protection

I recommend to read the Act thoroughly before stating such things. Especially its Section 5, Paragraph 1, Letter e and Section 5, Paragraph 4.
