- information about upcoming tournaments
- disussion of games (please limit this to completed games or discussion on how a game has arrived at a certain position
... speculation on who has an advantage or the benefits of potential moves is not permitted while that particular game is in progress)

This is easy:

White to checkmate black King with a Pawn at move 6.
There are billions of different ways..........

Oh, i meant if you can find a way, so that white will checkmate black King with a Pawn at move 6. (We call it a helpmate at 6 for White)

And as i said there are trillions of different ways..........

you need to read the directions. it is not a checkmate problem. Look at any number on the grid, then look at the piece below it, and the "crystal ball" will read your mind and tell you what you are looking at.

that would be some trick if those symbols were randomized :)

OK, here's where it shows if you all paid attention at maths in school :)

Any two-digit number can be constructed by our familiar decimal digits 0-9 as follows:

10xA+B, where A, B any decimal digits.

What Ed asks us to do is take away the sum of the two digits, i.e. A+B. So we are left with:

10xA+B - (A+B) = 9xA

Just look at all the positions divisible by 9 - all the same symbol, which also appears at the end of each cycle inside the crystal ball...

No, redsales, only 88% of the table is randomized ;)

Whitetower, exactly! Of course when I said randomized, I meant the "hook" symbols. The others, as you know, are window dressing and inconsequential to Ed's miraculous ability to read my mind :)

I knew that of course. I would be a complete idiot if i thought it is a checkmate problem. I just set up another problem....

Except the fact that the same symbol appears at every number that it's divisible by 9, does any other pattern for the appearance of the pieces exists? As i see the distribution of the pieces is not totally random and in fact it is not random at all. I think the pieces appear each time with the same analogy. But anyway it doesn't matter much.........

Just to let you know that Terry aka TTrotter and Jestone from El Salvador has passed away on 18 September, 2004. Those of you who knew him will miss his great sportmanship. Peace and best wishes to his family.

Terry was nice enough to send me a postcard from his country telling me how much he liked Gothic Chess. He said he would play me one day "when he got better", but I told him to invite me at his leisure. We never did actually cross swords, but I was thankful he did send me that postcard. I received several from around that world that I showed to candidate investors from time to time, all of which had some sort of note about how much they liked the game.

I know you are a superior player now Terry, so if you want a game, here is my move.

1. d4

I offer a draw.

I had the pleasure of playing Terry Trotter in several games of Gothic, Loop, Fortress, and Janus chess. Terry was friendly, kind, and patient with a novice like me. He never made me wait for weeks to make a move and he always had something nice and interesting to say. If I can pay homage to him I will say that we should remember him like this: "He was a darn good player."

I have joined the tournament in his memory, I hope to play with all of you there.

Terry was a very special person. This comes as a shock..and his web pages are down too. Amazing what things we take for granted. i will play in that tourney, it's all I can do to show respect.

1. Convert your a.u. distances to meters.
2. Convert your orbital duration into seconds, mindful that 24x60x60 = 86400 seconds per day.
3. T squared (in seconds) over R cubed (in meters) is your answer for the mass.

Thanks, I will sue that site for slander/libel. Typical awards for this type of abuse net plaintiffs about $100,000 or more.

I think you can ,but is not the same,Scarlett. If you read the site exactly you can see that there are different similar variants before GC was patented. Moreover the laws indeed are different in other countries.

I really don't like these kind of wars about Gothic Chess. It seems people don't like the idea of patening a game. Neither i, but a law is a law and we have to support the laws in order to have a balance and some peace in our life.

As for this new variation of Grotesque Chess, i don't think it violates the patent at all. Also i don't find anything bad that could be used as an accusation for the Chessvariants site. Perhaps is just me, as i doesn't care about any accusations.

But really, why people should always have to argue and fight about something. Why they can't agree?

Unfortunately these kind of disagreements don't promote Gothic Chess and it's really a shame as this game deserves to become as popular as Chess.

Argomento: Michael Tal at Gothic Chess.........
If you wonder who would be the best player at Gothic Chess the answer is simple: MICHAEL TAL!

If G.Kasparov, R.Fischer or J.R.Capablanca would have a 2800 at Gothic Chess then it is sure that M.Tal would definitely have a 3200!

Since Gothic Chess offers 3 major pieces,2 rooks and 4 other minor pieces, the attackes and sacrifices are endless. They happen 4-5 times more frequently that Chess. I'm too dissapointed that M.TAl isn't here. He would have shown us millions of beautiful attacks and startling sacrifices. I doubt that he would lose one single game. The man was sacrificing material everytime at Chess. At Gothic Chess would be the worst nightmare of any player.

My attorneys are taking care of it all, that's what I pay them to do. Fergus, the author of the page, will be served with legal documents today, requesting his presence in a court in Philadelphia. His attorney will advise him to change the content of that web page drastically, or take it down altogether.

Keep watching that web page.

So, Purple, what were you saying?

He was given the option to remove the slander, remove all mention of circumventing my patent, remove "gothic chess", all 15 instances, get it done by noon (giving him 3 hours) or he would come to court and be judged.

Looks like this person was the "genius" Purple, because anyone who enters a courtroom with me is stupid.

B.. I was being sarcastic..

Even in regular chess.. the Queen is a strong one.. the king.. so limited yet the main focus of capture..

In Gothic.. the archbishop and Chancelor are rather strong players.. Just as the Queen is.. Although, I still prefer to save my Queen due to her unlimited straight and diagonal moves..

This is just my opinion though.. for I am no master player.. nor do I have time to really sit and study chess or the variants soley.. I just play for fun.. '
