 Chess variants (10x8)

Sam has closed his piano and gone to bed ... now we can talk about the real stuff of life ... love, liberty and games such as
Janus, Capablanca Random, Embassy Chess & the odd mention of other 10x8 variants is welcome too

For posting:
- invitations to games (you can also use the New Game menu or for particular games: Janus; Capablanca Random; or Embassy)
- information about upcoming tournaments
- disussion of games (please limit this to completed games or discussion on how a game has arrived at a certain position
... speculation on who has an advantage or the benefits of potential moves is not permitted while that particular game is in progress)
- links to interesting related sites (non-promotional)

I guess all these new posts are testament to gothic chess's continuing popularity, but maybe it's time I removed this from my favourite board list. I agree with Caissus's message that is buried somewhere hereabouts; I'm getting tired of reading unimportant things.

Purple.. cute suggestion there bud.. But, I don't believe I can run in the same crowd as women who are false.. I don't do boob jobs nor do I wish for a man who wants me only for my looks.. anotherwards, I have a brain.. and enjoy the challenges.. and for the suitor that actually can see through to the real person.. well.. then they get the real treasure.. ;)

Besides, Gothic is married.. isn't he?? I don't share my men.. haha..

*btw ~ I have been playing in a gothic chess tourney and really have enjoyed it.. :) but so challenging it is.. for this busy one.. ;)

Soooooooo let's see.. back on topic here..

I am getting confused when playing in my Gothic Games about the new little horsie guy and the rookie/king type dude.. What I mean is I often forget how they move and end up loosing valuable pieces.. Is there something you could suggest I use or do to remember better.. I tried the sticky note thing on my puter.. but, it keeps getting lost.. :)

So, about the "new" pieces or even the old, how do they match social positions and more provacatively, which BrainKing members most fit the character of Gothic chess pieces?

I have received requests from various sources to indulge you in a game of Gothic chess for stakes. Normally I only bet in fields in which I feel familiar with the terrain. As I have never played Gothic chess, in fact I dont even know the rules, it has also been suggested that we play a combination of chess variant games for a total stake. Any views?

Good idea for a fair competition, ughaibu! I suggest every player can decide about two variants of his choice. But only variants, which are offered here in Brainking! But I fear the competition will become onesided, because every player will win the games of his own variants -:).

I was thinking along the lines of one (unscheduled) day total for the games to reduce the possibility of outside help, with games continually coming, finish one the next starts, within that variant. I can accept that my preferance for the quicker variants would give me an advantage but then again my variants of choice, if restricted to those on BrainKing, could be considered more easily accessable for straight chess players.

your diffuse puberty rituals of fixative proving whatever are as low as your
board-habits - why not answer to the topic questions here ? btw calling a cheater
a cheater is a definition, it's no insult either, so you better don't demand reports.
Although you have not apologized for your poor performance silly me presumed a courtesy
of leaving it behind. Of course we know why indeed you sulk about going away - it's easy chicken out from true competition. I for my part won't feel pelled to having hectic games with running rabbits - no game until licence is renewed. Due to my precious reward as serious
player I prefer to brag only with complete games - if feeling urged to such, anyway ... ~*~ 0:)

Argomento: nice offer
Just woke up, saw the action I missed. That match idea seemed quite equitable, ughaibu. I think it would be nice to have a decathlon too as suggested. I wonder if we will ever get realtime implemented a la Caissus Chess. I'm having no trouble reading the PDF.

I would love to see match play on BK between the top players of two not-too disparate variants (ie checkers and parachute checkers, goth and janus, amazons and tank battle (well, maybe that's stretching it) I think it would add flavor to the site and encourage players to be more eclectic.

Argomento: which brings me to my next point
I like experimenting with new variants of just about everything. I know there are plenty of feature requests to Fencer for new games, but he is only one person and can only program so fast. However, the goth board and other chess variants are already programmed on BK, so it wouldn't take too much more time to combine the two. I believe Goth would combine very well with other variants, especially extinction, loop, dark (!!), 3 checks, anti and maaaybe atomic (we'd have to see if white has too great of an advantage). I would love to see those combined variants. Would you give your blessing to that, GI?

I like the gothic board and rules. It is great as a stand alone game, like chess.

2. Agosto 2004, 09:47:08
redsales
Argomento: a happy medium
and then maybe GI and ughaibu could play a Gothic Loop match for no money, just to match the best in their fields? Compromise!
