I personally like the limit of 2. I have 2 and both are pretty small, which is ok. One is just for some of us girls to get back and have fun and the other one is silly stories. I have thought about deleting it anyways because there isn't much activity on it. That is ok though because it was at least tried.

Now if I read the games one right, this is what I think everyone is saying? (hush about me thinking) Each 'group' say the Bumble Bees they have one fellowship, but have many different teams. They can't have the Bumble Bee Backgammon and the Bumble Bee Chess etc. This seems redundant anyways. And then you have the 'chat' boards where everyone gets together to vent, have fun, get to know each other. Am I reading it right?

Yahoo boards are crap compared to here

I dont like yahoo boards. I've seen some others as well and dont like them either. This is a good system. The beauty of here is, that if you dont want to be part of the other stuff, you dont have to join them and can ignore them a lot easier than the other DB's I've seen

can`t understand that, you can write and talk about all what you want (about "god and the world" :))and you don`t need the resources of Brainking!

I agree with Steve, the atmosphere here is better. That atmosphere was created by games AND the chat and banter that goes on.

Sujet: The idea of the fellowships
I find as good, although we are here in Brainking nothing other than a big fellowship:)!.

But there must be a sense in the topic, what has to do with the games, otherwise we are developing in other directions.
"Off topic" are surely themes of reptilians, motorway, mystic or worldwar(???).In addition there is a maxim : Less is more.
Or else we have anytime more fellowships as paying members and every FS has three members or every member is in every FS:).

Better could be if a good player of a special game would adopt the sponsorship of this game in a special FS.He can teach something to other interested players and they can deep their playing.
The second consideration is to found national or continental groups to fight out special competitions between countries or continents.

My idea is in chess and variants to organize a competition between Europe and America, perhaps as pentathlon(regular chess and four variants, which every player has to play). But for it we need two nearly identical FS,(games, objects, teams)and we will wait for Brainking 2.0.:).

And the international thing has and is being done already, not a new concept, I have a battleboats one happening, and have seen others do similar. This was not a fellowship thing though

So how you say,the most sites have DBs about games-related themes and about only these themes. Why?
At the most sites the other things are called as abuse and would be deleted at once!
It is always the question if you are concentrating your activities on a special topic and try to make it better or if you are handling all things a little bit, some a little bit better and others a little bit bader.
My opinion is to concentrate on the topic of the site = the games. For the other things there are many other possibilities in the internet.
I am very sure:the silent majority of serious players has the same opinion,or will leave the site,if it will too generally.
I want to see this site more as place for competitions and fewer for talks (not only). You have to decide for more the one or for more the other direction.
And Steve : I don`t speak about battleboats.

My point is that you can sort an international competition if you really want to, without the aid of fellowships

Caissus, I respect the fact that you would like more competitions - more play, less chat. But there are quite a lot of members here who like the other side of this site. The friendly, chatty side. We make friends here, laugh and cry with each other and for me this is just as important as the games. I believe both can co-exist on BrainKing. You can have your competitive important, intense games, and I can have my friends and enjoy the chats. We rarely get in each others way at the moment, I don't see why that can't carry on in the new version of BrainKing? And I don't mean that to sound insulting! I just see the big difference in attitude towards the games with us. I respect you as a fine player.

Thank you Harley and I am sure you are right!I want to accent again, that it is not my opinion that the general chat-Dbs are unnecessary or something.Every member should use them so much as he wants. But even so,I think we have many of them, there must be a limit somewhere, otherwise all it ends into chaos.

27. Décembre 2003, 13:50:41
harley
I'll give you that, Caissus! There should be some restrictions in place. You don't see the point of having a fellowship about reptiles/animals, but its a subject close to my heart and I love chatting with other people and learning about animals. Sure, I could do that on yahoo groups, but BK is very important to me too, and I don't want to take the time away from here to run or participate in a yahoo group. But I shouldn't be able to start up 10 other fellowships with similar themes. And if there has been another fellowship/board on this subject then I wouldn't have created one myself. Its just common sense really or they probably would get out of control.

ughaibu, I also play for fun, but I like to see the serious players in action too! I think its a shame that there aren't more here, and I would like to see that change in the future.

In standard chess you are right, ughaibu, but unfortunately not in chessvariants (and I like the most of them) as turn-based.
I am too at Uschesslive (it is an real-time server and with variants),but this is all what I know.
Okay we all are not professionals, but can it be false to improve the own game?

No,I think only a small part complains, the bigger part doesn`t log in anymore.
It is not only some non-related DBs,(only one point)it is the general direction, which will be chosen.

Okay single cases are always possible and I don`t want speak about single names.
Deciding is what is with the large majority? For instance at the "Fritz(real-time)server",greatest chessserver in Europe, there are 100.000 registered users (only in chess). And here? 9000 User, but in all games and every player has at least one additional account :).But it`s okay, this is another relationship, you cannot compare.

I still believe in the free will thing, if you dont like the boards, dont click on the links. If you dont want the chitchat, dont join that fellowship. Is that so hard? Look at all the 'chit''chat' that has gone on in here already, yourself included.

Sorry bumble, it was getting repeating repeats and was driving me bonks.

I don't see why "serious players" would be so concerned with the more "frivilous" fellowships. As someone mentioned, it's free wiil, DON'T JOIN those fellowships!
Doesn't make sense to me.. Maybe I'm missing something.

I still say a PhP board system with moderators and admins is the way to go. The database is kinda small and it is ultra simple to use. Then there can be as many boards and topics as fencer wanted. most of all it's free.
