snowhugs: In ludo, you roll one die per turn, right? In this case, the chance of not rolling a six each turn is 5/6, and the chance of not rolling a six for n turns is (5/6)^n. The chance of any 32 rolls not including a six is, therefore, (5/6)^32, which equals about 0.3%. So, such should happen sometimes. :)

WhisperzQ: 200-300 games can take a long time to play in a turn-based environment. Many game types don't have any players who haved played that many games (eg Jungle, Fast Espionage, One Way Checkers).

First, resigning on the first move doesn't count as a loss for rating purposes.

Second, besides the number of games that have been played, another factor is the ratings of those who were played... especially for the first few games. This has worked in my favour in Anti Line4. :)

My interpretation of the Brains page is that you have to be a Rook to get anything for referring a new Rook. So tell your friends to choose Knight instead. :)

Temo: Cloak mode
If you sort the "Who is online" list by "Action," I note that those players using cloak mode are scattered throughout the list. I guess they are still ordered according to their last action, even though that action is hidden. So, this is a workaround to find out what cloaked players are doing! :)

My line4 rating never increases by more than 8 points, so it is stable. But I can get those 8 points from a win against a 2000 player or a 2300+ player, it makes no difference.

If there were all these fractional points that I am getting, sometimes I should get +9?

And the game with TheBig O that I mentioned was Spider Line4, played when my rating was provisional.

14. Novembro 2004, 21:29:21

Temo: Or how about this:
"The game is a draw.

BuilderQ: old BKR = 2061, new BKR = 2061 (0)
TheBig O: old BKR = 2430, new BKR = 2430 (0)"

"The game is a draw.

BuilderQ: old BKR = 2319, new BKR = 2319 (0)
sprayman: old BKR = 1962, new BKR = 1962 (0)"

With this sort of rating difference, how could our ratings only change by fractions?

Why is it that I can draw rated games with players rated hundreds of points above or below me, without either my rating, or my opponent's rating, changing? Which of BBW's points explains that?

Why doesn't BrainKing use a simpler rating formula, which produces reasonable results while being easy to understand? See http://www.uschess.org/cc/ccratefl.php

Hmmm, okay. I followed danoschek's link and tried to use that site to translate the whole "Bug tracker" page from Czech to English. Since most of that page was in English to begin with, the translation was entertaining. The Czech parts were translated strangely (Nefunguje scheme her acts?hellen, které stave off solely to mewed), and the English parts translated back into English included things like changing "BIG BAD WOLF" into "BIG BAD Tungsten." And "Date" became "Woodpecker"! Maybe this sort of thing does belong on the joke board. :)

When I define a new game with a rating restriction, it still shows that my opponent will be "any player." Shouldn't it show that my opponent must have a rating within the parameters I selected? Looking at my invitations waiting for response, I would like to able to remind myself how I defined them. And maybe others seeing them would like to know what restrictions I made?

Temo: GothicInventor's rating in chess
Well, he won all his games so far, so that is evidence that he is a stronger player than any of his 4 opponents, who had quite high ratings. There is no evidence yet that any of those 4 (or any other player) is stronger than him.
