Ok, I'm totally confused by the autovacation feature. I'm playing someone who continues to time out against me every single day in a couple of games, yet his vacation days don't come down at all and haven't for weeks. Can someone explain how this is possible.

aarg.

<feature request> Can we get rid of this useless feature please? Particularly since it seems to not be working. </feature request>

mctrivia: Well I have one particular opponent (you can probably figure out who - i only have 25 games going) who has been stuck on 15 vacation days for weeks despite timing out in our game almost every day.

grenv: You might want to send a PM to Fencer, let him know the game ID and such. There was once a "bug" which let people take advantage of the vacation system and not lose days. I thought it was fixed, but maybe there is some other bug Fencer does not know about (or it wasn't fixed).

Anyway, let Fencer know which games they are and I'm sure he could take a closer look at them....

BIG BAD WOLF: I think in this particular case there wasn't any bug. The thing is the opponent prolonged his membership and therefore his vacation days counter was reset to the corresponding value. While some might think it's not OK that someone gets another pack of vacation days after he uses some in previous membership cycle, I think the opposite. And it's a nice motivation for membership purchase aswell.

Deceased: If i understand grenv, he said that the person is "timing out" on the game day after day, and the vacation days left stays at 15 (and never lowers)

Yes, someone could lower to almost nothing and then renew to get vacation days back, but grenv did not believe it dropped at all.

BIG BAD WOLF: Well, I know who is he talking about and his counter decreases for sure, of course except weekends (set to saturday and sunday, so last 2 days there wasn't decrease of course).

What's more it was 15 before and after timing out yesterday. If it's still 15 in 4 hours when he times out again then that would surely prove it?

Deceased: You mean vacation days are not renewed yearly? If that is the case that is a big problem for people that pay for multiple years at once.

mctrivia: They ARE renewed yearly and IN ADDITION to that they are renewed when a purchase is made.

grenv: Yes, it went down and back up after renewal and by coincidence is at 15 again. Timing out yesterday means no decrease because of weekend, in 4 hours it will be 14. Period.

Deceased: That's ridiculous. Since you can have 6 month memberships, that effectively doubles the vacation, which is too much already!

grenv: I think autovacation is a nice feature and should be kept. Slow playing people is a problem (if any) only in tournaments, not in individual games.

May be a new option for tournament creation is needed, like "Only for players with less then X ongoing games". Then the player with more ongoing games can't sign up for this tournament.

andreas: autovac is silly. If you have a vacation you can set it up, no need for it to be automatic. Also, the game in question is a tournament.

grenv: I think autovacation is useful. For example last night we had network outage. Due to that I lost 4 or 5 games by timeout (but my fault, I play too slow and often leave my moves until last moment). But if I were paid member in that time, I would be protected and not time out. I think that benefit should remain.

andreas: Autovacation is alright, but I think to cut down the abuse of vac. days and autovac. days we should cut down the weekend days to one day instead of two.

emmett: But the weekend is 2 days for most people. I know I work a 6 day 56 hour week but this is not the norm. At least not in North America I am not sure about the rest of the world.

If you have a problem with people taking weekends off and using up vacation days create tournaments and games without vacation days or weekends only.

mctrivia: I never quite understood the need for weekends at all. If you are working surely there's less time to spend making moves.

grenv: I think the reason is that people do things on the weekend. During the summer people that have cotages will often go to them on the weekend and presumably they would not have internet there. During the week I am on my computer atleast once every day but come the weekend if I am not supper busy I may spend an entire day out.
