Oops! I'm SO sorry Dmitri, boy is my face red!! LOL! My only defense is that I didn't actually TRY to delete yours.. I pressed delete on Blaze's message and yours went instead! Sorry again :o(
I'm sure its just a glitch, I've let Fencer know about it and I'm sure he'll find the problem in no time.

28. mei 2003, 00:44:47
harley
Oh no, what have I done?!! LOL! Blaze, your last post that was messed up.... I tried deleting it but instead it deleted the one BEFORE that! I can't even remember who it was that posted immediately before you! So whoever you are, if I've deleted your message I humbly apologise! I'll have to ask Fencer about the rogue message that I can't delete! :o)

*round of applause* for Blaze!! Couldn't have put it better myself! Take a bow hun!!!

LOL, you lot will get me sacked!! (re:Christine)
Take it to general chat please!

25. mei 2003, 16:20:21
harley
Congratulations to Christine, even though this isn't the general board!! (so you still haven't honoured your bet, Christer!)

Sorry, no there isn't. But its easy to scroll down quickly and stop when the 'new' sign disappears next to the post!

Wizard, one option would be to send cash through the post for your membership, if you can exchange your dollars for USA dollars. Of course not everyone trusts the postal service! I'm sure there will be an Australian representative soon if you don't fancy that option.

Blaze, your meaning wasn't lost, I was just teasing!! :o)
It really doesn't bother me giving out my address, I sell on eBay and that requires me to give out my address for everything I sell (and buy!) so I'm quite used to it now!

16. mei 2003, 09:15:19
harley
Aww, Blaze, give over!! LOL!! The important thing is getting the right information to the people who need it, not who is 'top rep' LOL! We can work together for the UK side of things, I reckon we'd make a good team :o)
How many people were you thinking for each country Fencer?

16. mei 2003, 08:10:05
harley
Yep, you can count me in, Fencer :o) Be glad to help.

Go to paypal.com and fill out the form there. Its a simple form, just name, address and bank details.
But you DO need some kind of card, switch, solo, visa electron etc... if you have a card that you can withdraw money from a cash machine you can set up a paypal account. (that was my understanding anyway, if I'm wrong please let me know)

15. mei 2003, 16:50:53
harley
:D I'm glad that helped, Blaze!! And enjoy your membership!

Blazeinshore, I'd like to put a little in here in response.

When I first came to this site I was also daunted by the payments page. I had never bought anything online and only had a debit card. I asked Fencer for other options and after some discussion with him and other British members who have had this trouble, I decided my best bet would be to send cash through the post.

My debit card did not work on the online payment options, a money order is very expensive for us Brits to buy and I had no idea how to do a bank transfer to a foreign country.

I was advised by a friend to go to a main post office, where they exchange money with no extra cost like you get at travel agents.

I got $16 and put it in an envelope, and posted it! It was very easy, and didn't cost too much (it was my Christmas present from my boyfriend). I think it was around £10-£12. That was for 6 months rook membership.

Since then I have opened a paypal account and actually renewed my membership this morning. Its VERY easy to do. If you have a bank account. Even just a savings account would do. You can get those quite easily when you dont work.

Anybody who would like some advice on payment methods from the UK I would be very happy to discuss it with you. If you're not comfortable with sending cash abroad I could pay for you via paypal and you send me a postal order.
I spent a long time looking into the best ways to pay for myself and would be happy to share it with anyone who asks.

Anyway, I'm not THAT strict!! LOL! I was joking with Bumble earlier, and the only time I've ever had to ask people not to post is when it starts with jokes or arguments... things that can carry on for a while over several pages that have NOTHING to do with BK. They really do belong in general chat. But they have been extremely few and far between and usually by people who didn't know GC was there and just needed pointing in the right direction!
But I've only ever deleted one message and wouldn't cut a debate short like this one. I'm no monster :oD honest!

13. mei 2003, 23:40:03
harley
Thats ok, Dakota, its about BrainKing and its future so is fine on this board.

13. mei 2003, 22:53:43
harley
Does the exchange rate really matter?!! Some people can afford it and are willing to pay, some people genuinely cannot get together that much money in one go, and some probably could afford it but are not willing to pay. There are plenty of people in each of those categories.
As for restrictions, I haven't heard Fencer mention anything about this, and a general discussion (I think someone also said earlier) about it will never reach any kind of agreement! (Except maybe that players shouldn't have limited moves! LOL! And I'm sure there will be people who disagree with that too!)

LMAO Bumble!! :P
Just because I can do the time warp it doesn't mean I'm unin.. untellin.. intenningenen.. STUPID!! Now take it to general chat before I ban you! LOL! :D

LMAO, sounds like a challenge to me Fencer!! (only kidding, even I'm not that daft!)

NightHawk, you shouldn't need to restart your PC, its not a major change. Hope this message is in time! LOL! You must be in a different time zone to me, I was in bed when you posted your last message!

Have you changed any of your settings lately? I believe theres an option to take off the background PICTURE... maybe that could have affected it?

7. mei 2003, 08:29:28
harley
Oh heck Fencer, if you post technical info make it something us wood heads can understand!! LMAO! You know, like "that blue thingy whats plugged into the green board makes that switch there work"!! Hee hee!! Only kidding, you go for it, I can look up what I dont understand, might be a good learning experience for me!
BTW, we all know you're working hard on eveything and appreciate it all, but even more we appreciate the feedback we get from you. That means more than a problem-free site (IS there such a thing??).

Put it on the default for the one you do most(move and go to next game in my case) then you're mostly only pressing it once.
For the extra click you have a lot of extra options.

Blaze, you're quite right, that sorted it, thanks! :)
Its definitely one for Fencer to look into! We can only hold that off so long, once we get another 10 pages or so there will be no way to cure it. Thanks for that, it looks loads better!

Does this board seem stretched to anyone?! It seems to drift over to the right more than other boards. I have to scroll to read messages where I didn't before. Any suggestions?

:o) Clever Hunk, a minor error, I'm sure Thomas Edison didn't worry too much about such small mistakes :-D

pssst, Clever Hunk... 2 rooks, 1 bishop, 1 castle???!

Sounds like a good game though, interesting!

TT, I've removed your message, and to be fair I've also removed the messge that upset you so much. Hope this is acceptable, if not, let me know in general chat and I'll explain further!

Jenny Wren, it wasn't me suggested one fellowship allowed for a pawn, I just commented on it in a later message. It was just a suggestion put forward by BIGBADWOLF. As far as I know theres no plans to allow pawn members to join fellowships (yet!).

SlamDance13, I will answer your sensible questions.

Yes we have backgammon here.
No, you cannot curse.
Yes, you can speak freely as long as you respect that this is a family site and this board is for "everybody who is interested in BrainKing.com itself, its structure, features and future", not to listen to you bad-mouth GoldToken or any individual.
No, you cannot make personal attacks on this board.
Membership details are listed fully and clearly under the "paid membership" section.
If you are banned it is Fencer's decision, and I can assure you, if you did get banned it would be entirely your own fault. Fencer does not ban people on a whim. Maybe you shouldn't buy membership until you have settled here.

There is another board where you can 'speak freely', that is called "general chat", but even there you cannot curse.
This is a lovely site with great people and with the right attitude you will be very happy here.
Welcome to BK, I hope you can stay :o)

Ah, my apologies, I didn't read your post properly! If the king is surrounded on 3 sides (with the throne on the fourth) it should be a win.

Danos...
A) the game is private so other players cannot see it.
B) asking for help from an outsider is bad form :oP
and
C) this should be on the tablut board, not the BK board!!

I'm sure it will be worth it when you have finished the work. :0)

Good going, Fencer :o)
I dont know what you've done but the site is running great today! Nice one!

3. april 2003, 11:20:43
harley
Fencer, the send invitation page offers the person an invite to the site, where CleverHunks idea would be inviting a person to a specific game, which might be more appealing!
Hope I got that right, CleverHunk?!

1. april 2003, 19:28:56
harley
Quite right Dmitri, Fencer is here almost as much as me(!) and he's aware of the problems and working flat out to sort them. Of course he needs to know what problems we're having before he can sort them, but for problems that everyone is having, it is a bit pointless us all complaining about the same thing. Its just taking up his time having to read through all the complaints.

28. maart 2003, 11:34:06

Loads better for me :o) Much faster, its not like swimming through mud now!

I should think the match will end on what the scores are now. If you have 1 point each then the whole thing would end a draw.
If there has been a game or two completed in the match then yes, it would affect ratings.

26. maart 2003, 09:13:23
harley
No, I think you're right Blaze, you'd have to resign individually, Angus. But if you resign then you'd lose overall, can you delete the game instead? Then it would have no effect of your rating. Other than that, if its a 5 match game, when you have resigned each one, it will be counted as one loss for you. Thats my understanding of it anyway.

25. maart 2003, 08:34:08

Thanks everyone.. hopefully now we'll have a nice pleasant place to chat about our favourite site again :o)

24. maart 2003, 14:20:15

LOL, thanks but I wont be deleting anything posted before today! I'm hoping it wont be necessary for me to delete anything at all. I'll just sit quietly in the background and only pounce if someone gets too out of hand! LOL!
Sorry jon, I'm all out of favours!! But if you want to chat about the structure, features and future of BK I'll be very happy!! :oD

24. maart 2003, 14:03:31

Thanks jondownie, hope everyone else is too :o)

Shortphuse, just this board!

Thanks for the welcomes :o)
TTJazz, we've all seen you apologise and offer the hand of friendship, and others do the same. If you want to carry it on I would kindly ask you do it at the general chat board, I WILL delete insults and non-appropriate posts. However, I dont want to delete anything unless its absolutely necessary. Guess that answers Tony's question too :o)
jondownie, this morning, because Fencer has his hands full without reading hundreds of posts that have absolutely nothing to do with anything!

LMAO TTjazz!!! Who gets the honour of dishing that one out then?! Or do I get to choose?!! LOL!

You lot are kidding, right? You're arguing about which board to debate which board to use??? Do me a favour, press the 'show oldest message first' and have a read of the early posts. There was never so much petty bickering here and this just takes the biscuit. Oops, have I posted this on the wrong board??? I give up, I'll leave you lot to it.

Why is this just about pente? Dmitri is using pente as an example as its the game he plays most often, but it applies to all games.
Should an opponent resign when they have obviously lost, or carry on to the end?
I personally find it difficult to decide. In games like checkers I've had one king left, and my opponent 4 kings, and I've had a lucky break and gone on to win. So I rarely resign a checkers game now.
But how about backgammon if you have 200 points left and your opponenet less than 50? Its impossible to catch up. but if I resign I feel like I'm taking away that persons 'winning' move, the satisfaction of moving out that last piece.
In situations like that I often ask the person I'm playing if they'd like me to resign.
In chess, I like to play to the end because theres always room for error. I believe theres no right and wrong answer here. I'd like it if my opponenet asked me to resign if I'd obviously lost and not noticed, especially on games I'm not familiar with like pente!
Its really down to the individual what they prefer.
But if someone said to me 'lousy game' I would be highly offended! Even Dmitri offered me a 'gg' when I KNEW I'd played terribly!! It was one of the first games of pente I'd EVER played and didn't really know what I was doing, but he was a gent about my losing miserably!!
Even just say 'thanks for the game' if you feel you can't bring yourself to say 'gg'.. theres never any need for rudeness.

23. maart 2003, 12:47:38
harley
Onderwerp: Re: Resignations
Sometimes its difficult to know whether to resign or not. Some players like to play to the end, win or lose. To put 'lousy game' is plain ignorant when your opponent might have only carried on out of politeness to you. If it bothers you ask them to resign, they'd probably be glad to.

19. maart 2003, 17:18:36
harley
CleverHunk... multi reversi games?! that would be interesting, it would be difficult not to be completely wiped out with four players though. There would have to be a few changes. If it would work it would be great to see!! And great fun to play!

18. maart 2003, 18:42:51

Yep, white screens :o(
I'm having to exit the site and come back on to do a new move!
