Everyone should check out the new feature that Fencer just implemented on the pond page, you might just be sup prized to see how many fellowship ponds are over due to start due to lack of players, I found one that only needed one player to start but was 586 days over due

there are 5 ponds on the Ponds tournament page that are overdue to start but only need 1 or 2 players to start, hint hint.

Thad: you may want to put that request on the feature request board, I'm not sure how much fencer would read this board

8. April 2007, 15:23:33
Vikings
Subject: Re: Functionality Change (Simpler rules)
Thad: personally, I think that may not be the best idea. This particular pond is a great example as to why. There are 5 pawns entered as of now, that would mean that there would be frozen bids for the first 5 rounds at least.Add to that that these huge ponds don't occur very often, those 5 pawns could easily affect bidding for 10-25 rounds.
I think the way it is now is best. the pawns bids don't matter, play the pond as if they aren't there

Vikings
Subject: Re:
"Snoopy": they don't matter because they will all fall in with a bid of zero along with the next lowest bid

Subject: Re: Pawn Pond
WellyWales: It should be pointed out that if a pawn falls in with zero in the first round, there will also be someone else fall in with the next lowest bid, but thats the first round only

14. February 2007, 23:29:32
Vikings
Subject: Re:
joshi tm: I see what you mean, there are people that bid higher in the first round and then lower in later rounds., and there are people who will bid smaller toward the end but not nessecarrily with less than 2000 points left, pawns cause some of this bidding also. I guess that I don't see being observant the same as cheating.

14. February 2007, 12:03:24
Vikings
I don't know how I did that

14. February 2007, 12:01:22
Vikings
Subject: Re:
joshi tm< I'm talking about the current round, where Brian fell in with a 598, Alan stayed in with 667 and the next closest bid was backoff with a 1222. so it fits your criteria of the next lowest bid being 200 points lower than the next (595 in this case).

14. February 2007, 00:04:00
Vikings
Subject: Re:
joshi tm: under your criterea, AlanP's bid in this pond http://brainking.com/en/Pond?bms=21&g=2875 would be considered cheating when in fact it was a good and gutsy bid, there was a logic to the bid that only he followed, yet you would have him punnished by falling in? these bids happen in many games

BerniceC: at first appearance it does, but, however if you look at her message above the game she has an Icon waving, he has done this in at least one other game that I noticed yesterday, so I think that she is showing constistancy in his actions and therefore cannot be considered colusion but rather a good pickup by those that have caught it

Subject: Re: ic! But.....?
McduellMUG: something that may help you in your first games would be to look at the history of some other recently finished games here http://brainking.com/en/Pond?trnst=3&trt=0 . I would pick some games that have about the same amount of players to look at and give you an idea of how the bidding usually goes.

19. August 2006, 14:11:06
Vikings
Subject: Re: How do the ponds work for point? How does it move to make a move?
McduellMUG: the moves are determined by the time limit, the game you are in has a 7 day time limit so a move will be made every 7 days from the start of it at which time lowest bid in each round will "fall in" which means "be done for that game".
As far as points(BKR), It's never been fully explained, but its kind of like averaging wins from everybody that has fallen in before you against losses to everybody you have fallen in before, but more complicated.

Mr. Shumway: 20 games vs. 50 games. I would think that a pawn wouldn't burn more than 3 or 4 on ponds, just curious, how many do you play as a knight with that limit?

Rose: they cannot change their bid so their last bid will be used, since it is over 500 and no one else has that many points, he will continue to receive the bonus and win with a final score of 500
