Kingdom of Lesotho National Tree Planting Day! Begins March 21st.

I'd like to see people participate in more games than just dice chess...

Subject: National Tree Planting Day
March 21st is National Tree Planting Day in the Kingdom of Lesotho. This tournament is single elimination, eight players to start, under 1901 BKR. No unrated players...

Tree planting in Lesotho has nothing to do with playing these games. It has to do with preventing soil erosion, but I used to plant trees for a living. Not in Lesotho.

Robert James Fischer was born on March 9th. That's when this Fischer Random Chess tournament for BKR under 1601 starts.

This Fischer Random Chess tourney for BKR over 1600 also starts on Fischer's birthday, March 9th.

Could someone explain to me what is happening with this team tournament? It seems like fellowship deleted has held it up. What happens next in this situation?

Robert James Fischer was born on March 9th, 1943. Here is a Fischer Random Chess tournament for players who have a rating of under 1601 BKR. It will start on his birthday.

I set up another Fischer Random Chess tourney that will start on March 9th, for players with a BKR of over 1600

Subject: shamelessly promoting Trifon Zarezan
Perhaps it is because I am drinking wine right now, but this is the second and last time that I will announce the most popular holiday on February 14th. Trifon Zarezan!

You know what holiday is on February 14th, right? That's right, it's Trifon Zarezan (Wine-grower's Day in Bulgaria!)

Here are a few games with no particular connection, to help us celebrate Trifon Zarezan on February 14th.

Under 1901 BKR.

(Wouldn't you like one of your listed tournaments won to be called Trifon Zarezan?)

TarantinoFan: I have experienced what you were talking about. There are many players who use time and their days off purposely to aggravate everyone else. It is a strange tactic. I bought into this site to avoid that, but I still get players who (really) will use every vacation day they have rather than resign to a game that I have am one move away from winning. (In fact it is happening right now)
Anyway, Harassed is right to suggest that you choose games with the green dot or the red dot indicating no days off. I learned the hard way, like you. Once, though, I asked an opponent why they would not move, and let them know why I was frustrated, and they suddenly made moves every day and we finished our game in little time. It surprised me, but apparently direct communication can work.

Here are some fast and fun games. Can't get enough ice chess, cheversi, etc.? <1901 BKR or unrated. Two days per move. Check it out.

Subject: upgrading
tarcellius: I bought into a knight once. Then I let it run its course and saw its limitations pretty quickly. It is worth buying a rook membership.
This message also goes out to all other non-rooks, based on impartial experience...

There is still a little time to sign up for one of these chess variants tourneys. They only need one or two more to start immediately.

Subject: pairings
Some of the pairings (or arranged matches between players) in this 128-person tournament seem kind of, well, too bad for some. Tournament
Is the setup random, or is there a method to the initial pairings of players?

17. December 2006, 03:36:27
goodbyebking
This 128-person chess tournament only needs four more players to join! The game will expire by Christmas... there are already 124 players of all skill levels signed up. It would be a shame for this epic tournament to fizzle out.

Subject: Re: inviting another fellowship to a match
anastasia: Captains should be chosen carefully, with an eye towards good communication between the captain and his/her boss. The captain should build a good team and keep communication lines wide open as to the successes and challenges of each team. Communication is everything, which is why it is good to have captains. The Big Bosses would have a ton of work organizing and following up on every challenge in every game. But if the Big Boss wanted to, couldn't she or he be the captain of every team anyway?
