Subject: Help for recruiting Beginner's tournament
Modified by Chaos (16. January 2010, 16:12:41)
I could use some help recruiting for the Espionage beginner's tournament. I have 20 players signed up now, I'm aiming at 25 at least. This should be possible considering the prizes, only it's hard to reach the beginners.

So I'm asking for help: maybe in your games (also other than espionage) you meet players who might be interested in joining. They can't have a rating higher than 1500 in any of the espionage variants and their 1st log in has to be before nov 29th last year.

The prizes they can win:

#1 - 1 year rook + 9 months bonus!
#2 - 6 months rook
#3 - 6 months knight

If you find interested players, please send them to me, or send me a message so I can invite them. Thanks!

So Bosse creates small fast #2, and Nothingness creates a different (volcano?) type with Brain Prize afterwards?

Let's get the small fast rolling :)

SL-Bosse: I just saw that there can only be 4 player's in the team, so I guess it's a good idea if you have a fellowship as well to create another team, because now there are 6 player's in nothingness' team, already 2 too many. I can join your team if you want, then Nothingness has 4 players left. I saw Mark already signed up for another team as well. The Leaguers will play against eachother!

Nothingness: How many people can join a team? Maybe Bosse is right, if there are more player's interested than there are places in the team, it would be great if he'd made another espionage fellowship. Maybe first wait if it's necessary.

Modified by Chaos (21. December 2009, 18:10:55)
Pedro Martínez: Both Nothingness and I checked Resher's stats thoroughly. His wins by time-outs were games not even half played against the same 2 absolute beginner opponents in every variant. The rating was based on 4 games, 1 more than an unrated status. Based on those data I call someone a beginner. If trained by Nothingness I'm not surprised Resher is improving rapidly. I have no doubt Nothingness takes this job very seriously and Resher seems eager to learn, as can be seen by the large amount of espionage games of all sorts he has taken up since he signed up for the tournament, quite some of them against you. I'm sure he's learning a lot from you as well.We encourage the beginners to train themselves for the tournament, so it's only likely some will get above the beginner's level before the tournament.

Maybe that clarifies things?

Nothingness: With single elimination half of them is out after just 1 game! The idea is that they all start to learn and hopefully enjoy playing the game. Round robin has a minimum of 5 here. Let's see how many beginners we get, I could adjust it to 5 if it's a multiple of 5.

SL-Bosse: Thanks :) I'm very happy with it! :) :) I still think there should be another round if players have the same amount of points though. I think the S-B thing is odd. If the reasoning is that you're stronger if you win against opponents with a lot of points it should also makes you weaker if you lose against an opponent with less points.

start: 30 januari

fast espionage, 3 days + weekends

open for anyone with ratings 1500 or less or unrated, first log in before today.

minimum: 25 players, max 5 players in each section

invitation only -

Nothingness just came up with a player who wanted to enter who had ratings above 1500 for all variants just because he was in an all game tournament and the opponents never moved. he never actually won a played game. I'm sure everyone who wants to be in will simply ask me to invite them.

Prize:

#1 - 1 year rook

#2 - 1/2 year rook

#3 - 100 brains (or another amount, have to check what that's worth)

ok, pls give me feedback! I'd like to have the signing in begin soon so people notice and turn to us to train or train themselves.

I don't think you can exclude participants already signed up.

When shall I start the have the beginner's tournament started? januari 15th? What variant shall we choose for them? They often start out playing  volcano variants.

Among the veteterans Fast espionage seems the most popular volcano variant. Maybe the tournament after next could be Fast? If I organise a Fast tournament for the beginner's before that, they can play along in our normal tournament playing fast.

I'm considering giving out a 1-year rook price for the winner of the beginner's tournament.

I'm already trying to get some beginner's (they've only played a few games) interested in really learning the game. If everyone of you will train 1 pupil the tournament could become very interesting indeed! We can compete with who has trained the winner!

Nothingness: would BK consider implementing a 4 player variant? In Stratego such variant exists. I would love that. And ofcourse there's the corner variant already existing at IYT, we could ask for that one here. It requires quite a different strategy.

As for playing volcano tournaments, if there are just a few players who want to be in those it's no use. Maybe the league has to grow first? I'm ok with a fast (volcano) tournament after the next, but I don't think I'll enter.
