Subject: in a test by the magazine PC-Professional
pestpatrol found over 80 % of a really 'malicious' mix
of trojans and spyware - best result of all competitors.

Subject: pestpatrol offers a free online-scan
if it finds the trojan you have to pay
the program though - removal not included.

Subject: good luck :)
the personal toolbar is dimensions better than the IE favourites.
on machines with little resources I'd recommend switching off
sidebar (which is actually a little website/ticker) and avoiding
the usage of too many tabs - cached pages are quick anyway.

Subject: netscape
is basically mozilla with a big AOL-Remotecontrol on top. :p

meanwhile they split mozilla into firebird, the browser-core
and a separate handler for email and similar stuff , appealing. :)

I'm testing v1.6 since a few weeks w\o problems.
version 1.5 is the most recent (officially) stable release.

Subject: for me it's much faster
but of course netscape (with all the aol-trash)
might be generally slower than the mozilla-core

look up the cache/refresh-settings and enable pipelining
- a lot of HD-cache isn't really needed for bk, but why not.

if you have 512 MB RAM, a ramdisk for the cache is a great idea.

well try to get rid of IE-favourites in netscape - notorious.

firebird is the real thing now.

Subject: Web Code Fixes Required by Internet Explorer in Early 2004
Except for security fixes, Microsoft has steadfastly refused
to make any other updates to IE6 in the past 3 years, although
it has fallen farther behind its two main competitors,
Mozilla and Opera, in features/functionality, standards compliance
and reliability/performance. A recent court decision against
Microsoft by Eolas Technologies and the University of California
at Berkley has changed the situation, though the 500 million
dollar award is being appealed by Microsoft. However, Redmond is
immediately changing some of the offending coding constructs.
Interestingly, Microsoft will limit the changes in IE6 to patches,
security repairs and the new compliance fixes – no fixes to
JavaScript, CSS, DOM, and HTML non-compliance.
Here, we examine
those patent workaround fixes in more detail and what they
mean to Web developers.

Subject: mouse freeze
try the devices manager in preferences/system
- maybe there's a resource conflict now after
you possibly build in a new peripherial part.

Subject: a compact startup can be blazingly fast
many office packages are notorious and load loads of
default-sheets in advance plus fonts that might be never used.

together with the anyway extensive simultaneous
program-starts when the computer boots up a torture
for the poor multitasking-qualities of windows (switchtimes about 100-1000 times longer than MacOS)

a nice trick for those who regulary work with a lot of
office-applications in one session is to start
those programs via the commonly neglected taskplaner that
offers a 'time-after-bootup schedule' as option ...

a basic option are programs like 'startstop' (freeware)
scanning registry/INIs for custom/hidden program calls
and offering a list during windows-start for a possible intervention.

Subject: Debian Servers Compromised
(21/24 November 2003)

Four servers that belong to the open-source Debian Project were
compromised recently. While access to Debian machines will remain
locked until members have cleaned them, a Debian software update, Debian
GNU/Linux 3.0r2, was checked for integrity and released on Friday
(11/21).
