Subject: --McAfee Antivirus Library Vulnerability
Modified by danoschek (23. March 2005, 18:44:27)
A vulnerability in McAfee's Antivirus library could allow attackers to cause
systems to run files instead of simply scanning them for malware. Users are
vulnerable only if their software has not been updated through a current
subscription and if the most current virus definitions file has not been downloaded.

Modified by danoschek (9. October 2004, 13:16:26)
it's possible ... a bit twisted since 98 does not understand the bootloader of xp ...
easiest way is having two partitions on your harddisk, you got to install w98 first.
2 GB for 98 plus 5 GB for xp is about lower limit ... once xp is installed you'll be
able to manage further via Computer Management from within the Adminstrative Tools
(e.g. 3rd partition FAT-32 - keep in mind that w98 cannot read NTFS partitions by default) ... ~*~

is the Hijackthis program. Originally developed to repair 'hijacked' InternetExplorers
- i.e. when of sudden it starts with some weird pages instead of the chosen one ...
meanwhile it became a full system against malware/trojans - settled somewhere
'between' AdAware and Trojanscanner ... here the download site of Chip Magazine Germany
but cnet and zdnet will have it too ... here you will find illustrated instructions of use, english -
the free program creates a logfile that cAn be analyzed on this support site and, as nobody is able to know all the cryptic names of every legal process, they offer also a database of known processes - the program works without installations therefore may be started even directly from the zipfolder - good hunting :) ~*~
