I was asking since the one high school in our area has at least 4 teachers who are stoners.. these teachers are to be role models for our children.. and we are made to send our children to school and yet we have NO control on the role models our children are around for more than 8 hours a day????

Hello.. what is WRONG with this picture.. ?? I was curious cause I live in an area that feels they can take away the rights of our citizens and they can play by their own rules.. I am planning on typing up a Petition to get our Schools out here to do drug testing on a regular basis.. Yes.. I am a brat..

What about alcohol and tobacco? I think that if a teacher is a role model, then a teacher who smokes or drinks is a poor role model. Everyone agrees that a teacher who uses illegal drugs is not a role model but a bad example. What if children said: "I want to smoke just like my math teacher"? A teacher get s prescription for oxycontin from a doctor. Now the teacher uses oxycontin pills every day. That is an illegal abuse of prescription medication. Another teacher is caught smoking marihuana, and another is using crack. Then one teacher is injecting himself with heroin, and another with anabolic steroids. Each of those drugs is different. Should there be distincitons between drugs: legal, semi-legal, illegal. What about other addictions such as gambling addiction, sex addiction, even TV and food can be addictive. If a teacher is caught gambling, should he be fired? I think it is complex.

ScarletRose: Sorry but Übergeek 바둑이 is right. As long as there is no direct impact on the teaching at the high school then you really can't do anything. Someone drinking the night before a schoolday is as such in the same position as a pot smoker and regarding the possible effects of someone drinking heavily (still drunk next day) they pose a greater concern especially if they drive.

And Tuesday is right... pot will probably more than likely become more legal if not 'legal' .. the medical benefits of the two active chemicals (THC/CBD) are well known, just they would have such an impact on drug companies profits if more commonly used.

Teema: Re:The grand niece of the lady I take care of on weekends lives in CA. and is being paid to grow it for medicinal purposes. It's ridiculous to outlaw it.
Tuesday: Queen Victoria used it for period pains!! But I can see SR's point over it being smoked at work. Like drinking that is a no no. There are laws here regarding people who have a responsibility of care not to be indulging when in 'responsible mode'.

Artful Dodger:  Bingo... you hit the nail on the head. The kids know of at least these four who do get stoned.. on more of a social thing.. there have also been an occasion or two that two of these teachers have smoked it on a school outing.. to the ranch.. the teachers all get off earlier and the students ride in to the fields I guess and then on the return the teachers (guilty of it) Re-board the bus stoned.. I agree, they have a right to have their private lives.. but, when the students all know who the Cool teachers are.. and then end up getting high.. and using the excuse that the teachers do it.. they are in good careers... it makes it really hard to parent.. the one teacher was even caught and put in the paper several years ago.. She is the Special Ed teacher.. and one of her students even saw her toking on a pipe.. last week. So that is why the question and comments about the petition..
