Hrqls: Except for the hard refresh ctrl-F5, I did those other things to no effect a coulpe of days ago.
Though I have BrainKing on this browser (Waterfox), I just now loaded it onto the other browser(Firefox)
and BrainKing seems to be working fine on it now. You got me what's going on with it.

I might speculate that the help I received away from here somehow reset some of this. My other browser
was accidentally completely blanked and refreshed yesterday, and I have the feeling this might have done
something as you suggest in your post. When it gets later in the day, I will call to let him know about this
development. In the meantime I will keep things as they are.

Walter Montego: you could try clearing your history or your cache or your cookies
i assume the images taken from your cache where something went wrong so if you clear it than the site will reload them

you can also try to press ctrl-F5 to do a hard refresh of the page

Aganju: You might be right about the DNS. It seems it is something wrong with the browser
and only when I use it to go to BrainKing. As a work around, I am using a different browser just for
BrainKing.

It seems to be working fine, so my problem is solved in an indirect way.

Why BrainKing no longer will load correctly on the other browser is being studied. I was told it has
something to do with page rendering. The mystery is why is it only affecting BrainKing, and not the
other sites. I do not know very much about computers or the workings of the internet.

Thank you for the help. If it is found out why this happened, I'll report it back here to let you know about it

Walter Montego: sounds like a potential DNS issue - the images & icons come from a different address. Try disconnecting and reconnecting your network, or try using another network, just for a minute.

rod03801: It seems that is how it is with my opponents which leads me to believe something
has changed on my computer. I have no idea about what that might be. Other sites I visit work just fine.

Walter Montego: Everything looks normal on my end.

The game boards do not load on a game page. The little colored dots by people's names no longer
show. Instead a square with small rectangles appears where the little colored dot usually is. Same
thing with link symbols on this page next to people's names in the posts.

Is this BrainKing's problem, or something wrong on my end of it?

I appreciate any help on this. This site is unusable for me to play games.
If you need more information from me to help diagnose or fix the problem, just ask or post here.
The message system still appears fo work, though there's no little colored dots or link connections any more.

Maybe I can take a screen shot to show what it looks like? This started two days ago.

I recently started playing again at www.zooescape.com. It is a turn based site. Absolutely no bells and whistles. Just backgammon. The do host monthly tournaments, which are okay. And they have a pretty good ladder program. But not much else.

alexSandra: glad that you made new tournaments, I was debating about whether I should stop.  I know on fencers new blog he said brainking will come back but as a multiplayer live game site.  Thats not why we play here.  We player here because most of us a older (above 40 lol)  we dont want live games, we like old style turnbased game sites.  Unfortunately like many of the people we have come to know on here they have passed  This is old school gaming,   No money in creating sites like this for people like us

Clandestine 1: GT full of bugs. Its to a point of where else to play? Very few tournaments at IYT as you need 10 players to start a tourney. Then they removed 4x4 spiderline due to cheaters so they punished all the 4x4 players but just eliminated the game. That wont get another $ from me. It seems every new game at goldtoken has issues. I've been complaining for years to Mary the owner of various bugs but nothing gets done. I stay because I do like some of the games but its hard to navigate. IMO, Goldtoken more of a social media site then a game site. I paid 50$ a year to play 2 tournaments. The Olympics but even that has changed. After many years supporting Gold token Im only staying because of the friends Ive made. So I wont be a member there as well.

Very sad news :( I've been a member since 2004 and love my games - especially now I have retired. Like Beach I'm going to take a 6 month rook membership when mine expires in February and play to the very end. I've just created monthly tournaments until July so we have plenty of games to play so please sign up.

rod03801: I agree Rod, so VERY sad, it seems to have become part of life the last 24 years, I left IYT & GT to play here, although I have now gone back to GT (I love Cribbage, which they have)

It has not always been an easy time, lots of ups & downs, but i have made some great friends along the way from all around the world, and sadly we have lost many of them

Let us pray something or someone will save it, but even that maybe too late. It needs money, and a Java programmer as the site has lots of bugs that need fixing still, and of course to continue to build it......

Clandestine 1:  yes I am a member there too, but I really dont like it   I am also at iyt too   like everything turnbased game sites are going away this one was my favourite as you could control the amount of games you wanted to play and could start tournaments anytime which on the other sites you couldn't.  This was a great site while it lasted, and has lasted longer then any of us thought it would

beach:goldtoken is a good site for turn based games. They offer a greater number of games and variants than Brainking, although, Brainking has a superior platform. GT takes a while to get used to navigating, but it’s still very active.

Ive been trying to pay for 1 month membership (no money) and it will not accept my just over Aus 6$.....siigh

its weird because i paid mine through this way. I dont know what pay sponsors allow you but its usually shown through what to pay.

I used to like this site and thought it was the best online game site. But I don't think that now.

Walter Montego: You won't leave as you paid for a forever membership. Pity Fencer does not refund all the 'forever memberships' when he posted he had lost interest in the site he created. And all the people who helped him make this such a good site.

Geomomo: I have been a member just a month less than you have Geomomo. We're at 23
years for us. I won't be leaving the site. I was very frustrated earlier in the year with all the down
time that I was experiencing with BrainKing. It seems much better recently, though it still goes down
for short times on a daily basis. That's not good. I like the site. I wish it was more like it was in 2005,
and now it seems it is stuck like it was 2005 as far updates go.

Aganju: There are plenty of other hobbies besides playing games online. Online games are taking up too much of my time.
One of my hobbies is doing my family tree online. Soon I will spend more time doing that.

I have ben with BK for quite a number of years but due to the slownesss lately I am considering not to renew my membership. I cannot aboye slow internet.

Smiler.: Since you joined BK in 2019 and Fencer made an announcement on Jan 1 2017, I thought I'd copy it for you. At least he gives you back a day on your membership even it the site is only down minutes but my point is absolutely nothing will be done as explained below:

As you probably know, BrainKing will be 15 years old this year and it is also the last year when it would have an official support. Many things changed since October 2002 when the site had been launched and I think it's only fair to our members if they know (in advance) what they can or cannot expect.

1) BrainKing is guaranteed to be running at least to the end of 2017. After that, nothing will be guaranteed. For instance, the site could become offline for a longer time, an unexpected error could break some important features, games could timeout for no logical reason, etc. Since BrainKing is quite a mature product and was programmed to self-repair many usual issues, it is not unlikely that none of these scenarios would happen - but still, it's good if people are aware of that.

2) There will be also no refunds for any kind of membership subscription. I will link this post from the Paid Membership section, so everybody would be informed that purchasing a membership is risky and not recommended to people who expect a service that continuously operates at a peak effeciency without any downtime.

3) It is also possible that, starting January 2018, BrainKing could be suddenly taken down without any warning. If it happens, memberships that would be still active will not be cancelled and their counter of remaining days will be stopped during the whole time of inactivity.

However, there is still a chance that a real game enthusiast would buy BrainKing and restart the development of new games and features. So, if you are interested or know someone, feel free to contact me. Serious offers only, please.

beach: Those are good points. Brainking has a very robust tournament system. It is very flexible. The Goldtoken clubs offer great tournament options. I really enjoy the wiki platform, it allows members to get creative. I do agree they can be frustrating. I run a club there and have put a lot of creative effort into my wiki tournaments. The one area I differ a lot on is the sense of community. I don’t think Brainking holds a candle to Goldtoken with regard to overall community. And I point to a significant statistic. On Goldtoken 80 to 90 % of the members have a paid subscription. Brainking is the opposite. I have been on both sites for over 20 years and feel strongly about this. I enjoy this site and plan to continue being a paid subscriber. Okay I’m done blabbing on and on.

As a paid member I thought you do not see adverts.
At the bottom of the page is an advert in big text that you cannot miss. I find it very annoying seeing that advert on every page, especially when I make moves in my games.
So how much is Fencer making for showing that advert?
