I haven't posted to this board in many years. It looks from the links you and pedestrian posted here that this has been discussed and reported about from last year. So where's Fencer at on this? I am sure he wants the games here to play correctly. And any type of random dice program must be a fun challenge to make it work randomly, which they aren't doing now.

Actually I think that that could be exactly what's done and where the problem lies.

pedestrian: Well then!
IF this is the case, what's being done about fixing the problem? Can't we just have the dice to simulate a real pair of dice being toss instead of some fluke that can't be right and might explain why I win more than I should, or less?

These links confirm that tony's and others' charting of the dice have shown a pattern of something being wrong with the dice.

It is a fairly simple thing to have a well working random dice simulator, so what's the deal? A day or two's work on a program should be enough. This is a major problem since it affects the integrity of the game even if the flaw is fair for both players, and I am not so sure that it is fair for both players since in an identical paired start one player or the other will have an advantage depending on the what rolls were made. Maybe not 6-1 or 3-1, but what about 6-3?

tonyh: Out of those 57 games that had the same - did you happen to pay attention who won the opening roll? (Player 1 or Player 2)?

And were they all no-cube matches or with the double cube?

I'm just wondering if maybe we can determine if we can see more of a pattern here... I myself have noticed it also, just never felt like sitting down and counting.

Subiectul: Identical Opening Moves
For some time now, I have felt that my opponent's and my opening moves were identical. I shared this view with Walter Montego and he agreed. We decided that I do a test of 150 games to see how often the opening moves were the same, expecting a result of about 10, at odds of 15/1.
Out of the last 153 of my games, 57 had identical opening moves. Surely, this cannot be right; it needs looking into.

Pedro Martínez: thats good to hear. thank you for exposing such a bug, it:s difficult to gain such advantage over an oppoenent in backgammon, unless of course you have the know how or computer savy, both of which I lack. I do consider myself to be an excellent backgammon opponent though, so if someone wants a match (without the cheats) give me an invite.

Thanks again Pedro.

A while ago, more then a year (I believe it was Pedro) that exposed the cheats of gammon that were abusing their privelidge of knowledge of computer systems and were somehow able to roll or re-roll in a single turn. Does anyone remember this or am I remembering it wrong? Has this problem/system fault been resolved or does it still live on?

These are your recent matches:
28. Nov 2010, 08:18:48 7 points match with doubling cube g. lost
28. Nov 2010, 21:07:53 5 points match with doubling cube ennukene00 lost
29. Nov 2010, 20:36:18 7 games match ennukene00 lost
29. Nov 2010, 20:48:54 5 points match with doubling cube ennukene00 won

30. Nov 2010, 11:50:48 7 games match Carl lost
30. Nov 2010, 21:06:34 7 games match tequila lost
And, according to Fencer, that name switch means that your rating after that win should be 2264.

ennukene00: old BKR = 2256, new BKR = 2264 (+8)
pgt: old BKR = 2245, new BKR = 2237 (-8)

Lol. If you got yourself banned then that's an entirely natural thing to think. After all, why accept any responsibility yourself.

Banning is rare at DailyGammon but there are certain ways that you can help yourself out the door. Most of them involve being annoying followed by being an -------------. You do get the option to stop after the first and try to resist becoming the second.

In Pedro's case I think, unless there were events that I wasn't aware of, that it was a case of misunderstanding after Pedro made a rather clumsy entrance; one that made it too easy to interpret his joining as being for the purposes of aggression. As there is an ongoing "battle" with someone (a major ---------) who does just that, toleration for such accounts is lower than it might be.

ps. I shudder to think how traumatised you'd be if you met real control freaks. By the way, have you joined GoldToken yet?

Subiectul: Re: Direction of movement
DragonKing: It's entirely arbitrary. On a board in live play there will always be one player going clockwise and one going anti-clockwise. It's only possible for both players to makes their moves in the same direction if they each have a board, which is, of course, how it is on a game site.

In books it's likely to be the preference of the author. For a game site it may be their preference or it may be that they take their convention from elsewhere. Some sites, such as DailyGammon, allow each player to choose their direction of play.

Subiectul: Direction of movement
Does it matter if the play goes clockwise or counter- clockwise? Most of the books and computer software I have seen are all counter- as well as the direction of play here- but some books and sites are just the opposite. Is there a reason?
