If a Youtube video is not good here, it shouldn't be good on Youtube either. Many videos slip through the cracks, but Youtube has done a responsible job to remove them when spotted (even though I am an adult and would like to see them LOL). I understand the need to filter and remove. I think that is the best compromise. Personally, I don't want to see any Youtube videos on here, but it should be an option. If you don't want your kids to see them, hire a real babysitter to monitor your child's actions and don't leave up to a big box on a desk. Be a responsible parent, block .swf file media content. Use email programs to filter. There are solutions if you don't want your child exposed.

Oh, and by the way Mom and Dad, I saw that video you blocked on the computer when I was on the bus. You see, my friend has one of those nano ipods and you can play anything. Computers are not babysitters. I don't know why people want turn it into some chastity belt for communication.

coan.net: If you expect it to be only a handful of user who are posting, why is it so difficult if Fencer or a mod approve the videos before they are posted?  Fencer approves the pictures we are using in our profile. I dont understand why this should be such a problem.

Andersp: Thing is, where do you draw the line. The thoughts and posts of other people can be very unappropriated for kids, so should Fencer & mods also approve all posts?

The moderators of the Music board is doing a good job in getting a few extra moderators to help watch the board, along with the global moderators who will also be keeping an eye on the board. And I can tell you as a global moderator, if someone does try to push the limits of posting bad videos - we will not have to think twice to take away the rights to post to any board. So hopefully no one will try to push the limits, but if someone does - it will not be long before they will not be heard from again. And since pawns can't post video's, we also don't have to worry about someone creating a free pawn just to continue to post their bad videos.

But this is a fun interesting new feature... which in a few weeks, I would guess it will be down to a small handful of users who will be posting video's regularly.

The only way to stop them would be to close the internet down altogether.

I guess i was the one who started this "video worry".

I just wanted that all videos should be approved by either Fencer or a mod before they are posted, but the mods seem to prefer taking action afterwards.

I posted this on the music board:

 ..If you are under 13 years of age, then please do not use the YouTube Website—there are lots of other great web sites for you. Talk to your parents about what sites are appropriate for you.

This is a continuation form a discussion on the music board, where the moderator asked us to move it to here instead.....

With the recent talk about this site being designated as a "family oriented" web site, and the recent edition of music and other videos being uploaded to public boards from youtube et al, some are wondering if this is appropriate for such a family oriented site?

Some parents do not allow their children to watch any music videos at all. So even with them being moderated, is it even possible to not offend someone? I mean even talking about bear hunting was considered an unacceptable topic, so how long before videos will cause a stir?

I know mctrivia called him a few weeks ago and he is ok, but no news when he will be back. I had to stop the auto player a couple of months back as it was hardly playing any moves for some reason. I think from what mctrivia said that Fencer must off changed some of the code and it was not picking up certain(well most) games.

Eriisa: Simple. autopass only moves the game back to you if your opponent has actually found the setting buried between all the settings, knows what it does, and then turns it on. (The default is off).

Buz's request means "autopass on, always". Far more useful. Automove would even be better (that is, the system will move for you if there's no decision for you to make - incredibly useful for Ludo, Anti-chess and most checkers variants).

I don't think we'll get it - but we can dream, can't we?

When I was a knight/pawn, I calculated like this:

For tournaments with 1 game for each 2 players:
X = M - 1

For tournaments with 2 games for each 2 players:
X = (M - 1) * 2

M = maximum players per section
X = number of slots to set aside

First idea is on the tournament description, start putting a line that says: "Pawns, Bishops, & Knights: XX Game spots are needed to start this tournament"

Currently - section size of 4-8 = 5 spots free (10 spots for 2 games per.)

Why not just do the following.

Section size of 9-13 = 10 spots free (20 for 2 games - which for a pawn, means NO current games)

Section size of 14-16 = 15 spots free (30 fo 2 games - with pawns not able to join)

If the border has a class name (different names for different games), people can change is to whatever colour they want with style sheets. ;-)

For future decisions like this one, if you want light colors, you can always pick the letters of the game name that are allowed in hex format and see what color comes from that.
