 Languages

Ask questions or just talk about different languages. Since BrainKing is an international game site supporting many languages, this board can be kind of useful.

Since we will be dealing with pronunciation of words rather than their spelling, I think it's useful to have a link to The sounds of English and the International Phonetic Alphabet.

To see translations of some frequently used phrases and sentences in other languages see Languages

ughaibu: Yes, it’s curious. In french, the two words are singular.

Heard that in a quiz once. The answer they gave was that originally pants referred to fabric wrapped separately on each leg then wrapped or tied at the waist. Saying that trousers were from a Welsh word meaning tight shorts of some kind lol

Then you could mention tweezers, scissors or pliers. Let's face it English isn't the most straightforward of languages!

Nice works: Is that why we drive on the parkway, and park on the drive way? Or that shipments go by truck, and cargo goes by ship?
