actually, come to think about it a bit more, probably a better than even chance for a draw: the minimum number of participants is set to 16, a lot of ponds start with that number. out of 180 ponds now running, 130 have an initial even number of participants, 50 odd.

1 - 0 for me
50% draws for rain ponds, in the long run.

Fencer: my bet still stands on about 50% draws in this setup.

how is a rain pond with an even number of participants to finish?
when only 2 stay in the pond, both automatically lose
with an even number left, normally 2 will go away each round, leaving 2 for the final round.
I forsee a lot of draws here

Subject: formula
Any such method used in this game is a strategy, not a formula.
As anything in game theory, it is statistical in nature, not deterministic.
In plain language, the claim is not that a player who uses a fixed strategy could win any pond he enters, such a claim is obviously nonsense, and Ed never made such a claim. The claim is that entering a sufficient number of ponds he'd win more than he would if he plays only by guesses, regular instict, tea leaves or whatever.
And I agree with Andre, why bother? it's only a game. But VERY addictive!

Czuch Chuckers: don't worry about it. the BKR formula is probably still far from convergence, if it ever does. you're bound to bounce up again.

how come we see things such as

► Fast Start - First 16 to sign - Pond #28 -2 hours 42 mins 10 18 1 BIG BAD WOLF

for the next round, when it's all automatic?

30. January 2005, 12:39:16
rabbitoid
maybe for 1 round, improbable that all the autobidders will wake up at once

30. January 2005, 12:27:12

until (probably soon) someone bets 501

EIHN has stopped matching alesh. this means, 4 full rounds to go, then he drops to 373. by the way, what happens then if the autobet is still 1149?

if you intend to commit suicide and bet 0, could you please do it all together in one turn? doing it in a trickle of one per turn is a supplementary hardship on us survivors

interresting discussion.

but the question you should ask yourselves, as always when Ed posts something, should be what is the purpose of the post? what does the post accomplish? in what direction will it forcibly and predictably push the strategies of the participants? nice pretourney move, Ed

just by curiosity... could the next person who wants to resign enter -1 as bet, just to see if the system accepts, screams, gets a fit of laughter or suffers a nervous breakdown?

Bad Bishop:

order of players: you can sort the lines of the temporary file in excel, so the players will always be in the same order.

you'd have to do something manually to compensate for the players that were eliminated in the current round.

if the players change their nick it will not work correctly, the text copied contains only nicks and not player IDs. fortunately not too many players change their name every 2 days

4. January 2005, 10:20:57
rabbitoid
why? you can copy paste the table to a text file, then read the text file into excel.

but if there are people who bet 0 (or timed out on move 1) then only they should be in the pond

how come there are 3 players who bet 1 and are in the pond, while there are players who bet 0?
