stevie, yes i race on the ovals, both mud and real ones! lol i started out on the dirt tracks up here in the fingerlakes of ny, switched to pavement 2 yrs ago, partly for a change of pace and partly because of the nascar sanction at the track!! everyone wants to drive nascar!!! i've done it!(in a way) lol i won the track championship in 2003, i own the car that won it in 2004!!! it was fun but way too much work! i'm taking it easy this year and have no plans on getting into a points chase! i also have picked up a junior driver( we have a class just for the kids from 12 to 15) you probably know his mom, i know bwild does! lol MidnightMcMedic not too sure if she'll kill me for telling everyone i know her or not, but i'm feeling adventurous today! lol it should be a fun summer! I'm going to try and get her into the car for a couple of powder-puff races too! (ladies only, no current or past drivers)

yes they do. You get a feel for what gear you should be in. It changes depending on your load though.....

18. March 2005, 03:42:43
Stevie
how drivers cope with knowing what gear / split etc they are in beats me LOL
I went around a race track called brands hatch in UK in a tractor unit as a passenger..they easily shift as well as a sports car when no trailer or load on the back

Yep. Beats the old style 18's (cringes at the thought of the twin stick macks). That truck weighs a little over 40K pounds and can load up another 100K. It takes alot of power to move all that.

18. March 2005, 03:38:08

twin splits?

I guess its about 10litre?

110? that's in the next county lol. I'd say that from outside the truck, about 10 feet away, it's around 150-160. It hurts it's so loud lol. It's a Jake on 2 6" stright pipes. Ask a trucker how loud that can be!

17. March 2005, 04:11:48
Stevie
sweet :oD

so is it louder than 110dB? ;o)

17. March 2005, 02:37:42

might be an export thing because everytime on comes near here, you can hear it 30 seconds before you see it. The one I got to drive was so loud you couldn't hear yourselve think! The throttle is like an on/off switch. It was so fast it's hard to control it!

17. March 2005, 02:31:59
Stevie
hey Backoff, I was dissapointed with the sound of the Viper :o( didnt sound like a 500+bhp v10 :o(

Ok, lets do some math. I'm not sure if you are talking about the SL 500 Roadster or the SL 55 AMG so I'll list both.

SL 55 AMG
MSRP $124,020.00*
Engine AMG-built supercharged 5.5L 24-valve V-8 engine
Net Power 493 hp @ 6,100 rpm
Net Torque 516 lb-ft @ 2,750 - 4,000 rpm
Performance
Acceleration1 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds
Fuel economy
EPA estimate2 14 mpg
Highway estimate3 20 mpg
Emission certification TBA

SL500 Roadster
5.0L 24-valve V-8 engine
302 hp @ 5,600 rpm
339 lb-ft @ 2,700 - 4,250 rpm
0-60 mph in 6.1 seconds
MSRP: $92,020.00*

Now lets compare that to the viper which can be found at most Dodge Dealerships in the US.

500 horsepower
525 lb-ft of torque
505 cubic inches of displacement
Acceleration1 0-60 mph in 4.0 seconds
Standing 1/4 Mile (stock) 12.1@119.3 MPH
Lateral Acc. 1.02G (Lets see the benz do this)

Best of all, it's made in the USA!!!!

I see every type of car in my job and I must say that it's a tie between american and european between which cars are the biggest peices and crap. I tow BMW's, Jag's, Ford's, Chevy's all day, everyday. Dodge seems to make a decent product. I'm a ford fan but I must say that they have a couple of cars that are just trash (I towed 4 focus's yesterday.) I hate to say this but the Jap cars seem to last forever and the only calls we seem to get for them are dead battery/lockouts/flat tires.

My dream car, I'll go with the 67 Shelby GT 500. 428 cubic inches, 355/420 hp/tq. Not much around even today that will run with it off the showroom floor.
